Honestly unless there's a big twist with some kind of futuristic tech (for that era) I doubt I'll get this and I'm a big BF fan. A BF game with no helicopters or even a fully automatic rifle, it's gonna be really tough to get me hyped for such a game.

There were automatic rifles. The M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR) originated from WW1.

Except you know the lmgs (madsen, mg15 chauchat, federov, bar), the submachine guns(mp18, ovp?), semi auto rifles (rsc 17, 18, god knows how many carbines), etc. that were in the war.

Plus Battlefield Vietnam before that.

Loved this game so much.. so many good memories.

I'm fine with the game being alternate history, but I'd lose my shit if it was pure WW1. I've been wanting a WW1 FPS since World at War.

Yeah, me too, especially if they included the Alpine Front either as part of the main game or DLC. I'm in those mountains often and it's quite the setting for a battle.

Listen bud! There's never been a "Saving Private Ryan" like WWI movie so how would anyone have access to that kind of information? Books? Google? History Channel? I think not sir.

Nice try at making a joke jackass, if you pull my comment history for this thread I've stated what would make me skip it.
Well that escalated quickly.

I responded based on what you posted just now. Why skip it when you don't know what the game is yet?

I wasn't making any joke, merely laughing at the absurdity of skipping something without knowing what it actually is.

While there weren't helicopters, there were a number of automatic rifles being used in WW1.

Why are they showing hardline, that game was garbage. Why not talk about BF3, BF4 and previous "Great" entries. Even bad company 2 was great.

But hardline was such a shit title IMHO, I could not understand the deigns of that game like at all.

Maps were too large for the kind of fights they wanted the players to have.

The Lack of knowledge on World War 1 and history in this thread is frightening.
Its pissing me off more than anything because the status quo is of the average gamer that has that lack of knowledge. Those people end up in focus groups which then in turn dictate what we get by developers.

In Canada we learned about the Ross Rifle and how it was such a huge turd that the diary of one guy said how he chucked it into no mans land when he found an enfield by a dead british dude.

I want to be part of an excavation crew that tunnels under the enemy fortifications and bursts out of the ground behind enemy lines or meets up with an enemy excavation crew in pitch dark tunnels. I want to see and hear the explosions created when the British Royal Engineers blew the fuck out of the mines at the Somme and Messines crumbling the ground beneath the German fortifications and making explosions heard by people in London.

There is so much cool shit in this war.

You might wanna increase your FOV ;)

INCREASE my FOV? Fuck no! This is Verdun! Usually when I boot a shooter I go straight for the FOV settings and boost that shit to 95+.

Verdun? Got that shit locked at 70. If I'm gonna spend most of my time pistol sniping, I'd better be able to clearly see that guy three trenches down the line. I snipe pixels, bro. I get more kills with a pistol than the mook on the MG gets.

ye my schools always pretty much summarized ww1 "shit happend, trench warfare" and only talked about ww2.

i didnt even know who the harlem hellfighters were until today and I'm a university student....

Yep, those saying they are offended by the setting should take a look at this lack of knowledge and understand that this is going to be more education on this topic then most people will ever get.

I never really got into Battlefield. I had my CoD phase thanks to the popcorn campaign and always played like 10h of multiplayer. But Battlefield? Not really. Except for the amazing Bad Company 1 that is.

Cool to see the community so passionate about this. In happy that you are happy. I hope it'll be good.

Yes you are correct for example the M1908 Mondragón rifle is a Mexican weapon made by the General Mondragón and It was the first semiautomatic and automatic rifle in the world, it was used in both WW1 and WW2 that's why I hope we can use it on Battlefield 1

Well that one i didnt expect really. But i expected more that most people knew that WW1 wasnt just one big trench war. Guess i was wrong. :)

I don't see why, it's not a conflict anyone is exactly proud of or enjoys talking about.
It's really baffling because WW1 and the fallout of it is basically the basis that we still live with into the present and has had repercussions that are still playing out.

World War 1 is a non subject in schools.

Barely even remember it being a topic.

World War 2 on the other hand...

Even if that's the case in your area you have access to the best information database in human history and you aren't currently using it..
