Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed. Releases November 18th 2016.

It really bugs me that despite the Generation I Starters being the first Pokemon to introduce the Type Triangle, it's complicated right off the bat with Grass/Poison---I've always thought that dual-types weren't introduced too gracefully in Gen I, most of the ones you run into you won't realize they're even dual-types or how it applies without looking it up. The majority of Flying-type Pokemon you meet are part-Normal, and thus neutral to Fighting, for example as are the majority of Rock-types part Ground leading many to believe for the longest time they were immune to Electric.

But Poison and Flying don't effect Water or Fire, I don't think we'll see a Starter being with a type that would mess up the Triangle---so Water/Ground would be out since it'd have 4X to Grass.

Likewise we'll probably never see a Ghost, Steel, or Rock off the bat because they'd have an advantage over the majority of early game Pokemon due to being immune or resistant to Normal-type attacks.

Just noticed that new Grass starter is also a Flying type. RIP when facing Ice types.

If GameFreak have somehow managed to create a Grass Starter worse than Chikorita then I will be legit shook.

I believe he's only referring to the first stages. It's an important consideration at the beginning of the game when you and your Pokemon are all on a similar level playing field. Having a dual-type Ghost/Water or Fire/Steel (for instance) would provide a strong advantage. Going with something more neutral like Grass/Poison (Bulbasaur) or Grass/Flying (Rowlet) has been the preferable approach.

keeping with tradition i will pick the grass starter just hope his final evolution isnt another chesnaught in looks, also loving the look of the game nice to see them improve the nps models and i dont mind Hawaii as the location could be interesting.

And if this new style allows gf to easily add in Pokémon following you in the overworld would you change your mind?
Isn't it doing the opposite? HGSS could have Pokemon easily follow you due to it just being small sprites, but with everything 3D and realistically proportioned, it'll be difficult to allow larger pokemon into every environment you walk into.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Bleh, don't really like any of the starters this time around. Guess I'll go with the owl...

Definitely like Sun's legendary better than Moon's, though I may not decide which version I get based on just that.

They could do what they did with some environments in HGSS and just have it automatically go back into the Pokeball. I'd love if they got some really tiny Pokemon to ride on your shoulder.

The chibi look was great back when the games were 2D, but Gen 6 (especially ORAS) looked like a bad minecraft mod at points. if we're going full 3D, we might as well take advantage of what that can entail. Now just introduce cel shading in Gen 8 and 3D Pokemon will achieve the perfect aesthetic.

I also think that the legendaries as well as the starters look worse this time around. A disappointment almost in all fronts, but I guess the region has potential.

Litten > Popplio > Rowlet, but I like them all. I'm curious about the evolutions of Popplio, it kinda looks like it could get a fairy typing
Hawaii setting is neat

The more and more I think about it, Rowlet really is a special case.

This is the first time a starter Pokemon has been given such a dependent Secondary type. Rowlet could not exist without the Flying-type moniker. Whereas if you look to Bulbasaur, it could totally and completely pass as a pure Grass Pokemon just fine. It is also the first time that an avian-theme starter was actually given the Flying type appropriately, as both Torchic (flightless) and Piplup (aquatic) could exist just fine without it, yet he cannot.

It is also the FIRST Grass/Flying type that is bird-like. Hoppip/Skiploom/Jumpluff represented drifting seeds. Tropius was a saurian monster with wings. Shaymin flight forme was mammalian and flew with its own force of will. Finally, after all this time, after countless fake Pokemon with this exact same idea, they've gone and produced a bird with leaves. Fantastic.

I hope they don't fuck up this fire starter like they did the last one.

Also, hoping for Fire/ Ghost as Fire/ Dark seems too on the nose.

Fire-poison could be a possibility too, I think. Its mentioned as its fur being oily, though more in the flammable sense than the poisoning sense (but still, y'never know).

Wait, can only a white person be blonde in the game? That's certainly what it looks like.

I imagine there will be ways to change your hair color in game like in XY

Imo, Litten is the ugliest of the 3. Rowlet is the coolest of them all ( <3 ). Popplio is somewhere in between. Somewhat neutral to it. Also, it's the first time I really enjoy the look of a grass starter. Legit. I never really liked the look of all other 6 gen grass starters.

As for the trailer itself. FINALLY, it finally feels like we aren't walking on a grid anymore. YES!

Automatically go into pokeball sometimes. Also they need a toggle, not only for whether you have a pokemon following you or in its pokeball, but how many pokemon you want following you at once. ^_^

Houndoom is Dark/Fire. There's no Fire/Dark-typed mons.

I'm curious, is the order generally considered to be important? Like, I'm guessing the idea is the first type would be primary and have more influence on the design than the second one? I can't say I've ever noticed that.

Do you have insider information that the rest of us don't? You say it as if it's fact.

Seven gens, Grass/Fire/Water. It's practically written in the stars.

Pokémon is a super conventional series. Certain things will never change. The starters being Grass/Fire/Water is one of those things.

Wut? is there any difference.

Only in terms of categorization as far as I know. I don't play these things enough to know the difference besides that. I'm not the best person to ask.
