Only in terms of categorization as far as I know. I don't play these things enough to know the difference besides that. I'm not the best person to ask.

Hm fair enough! I think I'm gonna take a look at the typings though, I'm curious to see if I can notice any influence on the order design-wise.

Would love if anyone else could chime in by the way.

Only times I've contemplated playing as the female protag was in ORAS with Brandon and BW2 with Nate, their swimwear looked stupid. But eventually I accepted it and played through the game with them.

I can't stand May's design in ORAS. The bandanna isn't right. It looks like a bow.

yeah they had something amazing, one of the best new ones, then that final evo came...

My biggest regret in life will forever be evolving my shiny Braixen :'(

I don't hate Delphox, but it's such a massive downgrade from its previous stage.

It doesn't matter how good they are on their own, it's what they have to compete against!

ok so he had the worst girl trainer in years to compete against, what's your point

don't get me wrong, the women have been slaying the men almost every game since Crystal, but this is the one exception

Automatically go into pokeball sometimes. Also they need a toggle, not only for whether you have a pokemon following you or in its pokeball, but how many pokemon you want following you at once. ^_^
That's a good solution. But there are some pretty huge Pokemon that would not only take up a large part of the screen, but also potentially create problems with the framerate.

I'm definitely not against the idea, though. Having pokemon walk alongside is something that I have always, and will always, want incorporated in the games. I just don't know how realistic it would be for this gen. Maybe they are trying to make-up for that by having animations at the end of battles where the trainer and active pokemon interacts. (assuming following isn't in)

Hopefully the NX will allow GF to create stuff like having multiple pokemon out of their ball in the overworld. I'd be on cloud 9 having all my favourite pokemon running around and being by my side every step of the way.

Just noticed that new Grass starter is also a Flying type. RIP when facing Ice types.

If GameFreak have somehow managed to create a Grass Starter worse than Chikorita then I will be legit shook.

We already have three Pokemon with this typing, one is good and two are bad.

Things like movepool, stats, HA matter a lot. Not sure why everyone treats a quad weakness as a death knell in these threads.

I dont think we're gonna see it in SM yet honestly. Just seeing the groundwork in motion

Japanese trailer made me all watery-eyed. US trailer made me feel that this made me feel like we may be getting an epic RPG ! At least, the theme music variation did.

Seems to me like Alola is a blend between Hawaii and the Ryukyu islands. Funny enough, I feel the Japanese trailer would have been more appropriate for the stateside ver. seeing as it plays off nostalgia, as opposed to the US ver. which showed more direct screens and actual game info.

Going Grass/Flying and brown girl. The skin tones are super on point in this game.

I'd probably care more about Rowlet's ice weakness of I didn't already have experience with Torterra as a starter. It'll hurt it competitively, but main game you just don't keep it in against ice types. And really, no starter is competitively viable without a mega or a good hidden ability anyways

We don't know how the map will play out yet so who knows, maybe they'll let us pick an island and it'll scale from there based on the number of badges you have. There's nothing wrong with linearity. Beyond gen 1, every game has been pretty linear with where you have to go and what order.

That would be neat to see something like that. And some gens weren't linear. I remember in HGSS and GSC that you could choose to go to Mahogany Town and get the Ice Badge before entering Olivine City and completing the Ampharos sidequest. So there was a bit of a choice given (even if it completely crapped on game balance). Gen III and especially IV also wasn't linear since you moved to different areas and weren't confined to one path like in Gen V and VI.

Litten could be Fire/Poison too. It makes sense given the design and region.

Fire-poison could be a possibility too, I think. Its mentioned as its fur being oily, though more in the flammable sense than the poisoning sense (but still, y'never know).
Hmmm, anything else pointing to it being Poison?

That seems like such a random typinging for a black and red cat but IDK anything about what may have inspired this design based on it's region.

Yuuuup.

:'(

Who thinks Popplio will be dual type? Just going off of what we see I think it could be water/psychic or just stay water.

It won't be Ice, because, well, you know

I can't imagine it being any other type right now, but then again I never expected Chespin to become a Fighting type ever so anything goes

RIP, I just noticed my post you quoted was incomplete, the two sentences aren't actually meant to be related.

What I thought I had written was what you said, there have been 3 families of grass/flying and only one has been good, and that good one was a legendary, so my hopes for Rowlet being good are in the toilet.

I suppose, but either they're going to have to implement scaling to solve the game balance issue or they probably should simply just keep it linear and have side areas and areas that you have the player return to (like what they seem to be doing with Sun/Moon's first island), which maintains the balance curve and preserves the feel of exploration.

It takes place in Hawaii, so a lot of poison pokemon will be prevalent(tropical area). Litten also produces oil from its skin. Being fire/poison would also help distinguish it from Houndoom, who is Fire/Dark

Didn't even know you could get those badges in gen 2 out of order lol

But are you sure gen 3 and 4 are non-linear? Its still funneling you down a path, just not a straightforward path right?

To be fair, starters usually have pretty high bst compared to tropius and jumpluff. And a good hidden ability and move pool could do wonders

Here's the best way to predict their evolutions:

First, picture what you think they'll become.

Now, imagine the complete opposite.

Bingo! That's their evolution!

I've played alot of Divinity: Original Sin lately and setting poison ablaze is a big thing there. Add in the description and voila. Double weakness to quake but whatcha gonna do.

Not really, but its a start at least. But its honestly no more of a jump than assuming its gonna be a dark subtype simply because its black. I mean, we've had "dark" looking pokemon that weren't dark type before (specifically, the Luxray line).
