Pokémon Sun and Moon Starters Revealed. Releases November 18th 2016.

Pokemon starters

I just realized that Litten is going to evolve into a Tiger.... Because all fire starters are part of the chinese zodiac and cat isn't a sign but tiger is. This is just like how Fennekin still fits since Foxes are Canines which are depicted in the calender and not strictly dog.

edit: And the grass starter is so out of place... I thought every grass starter was based off a prehistoric dinosaur creature? Or have we caught up to modern times now?

Foxes are vulpines not Canines

LTTP on this, but I like all three starters and both legendaries.

However, Rowlet is my favorite by a country mile. So much so, that depending on how the evos look, it may end up being one of my favorite Pokemon period. It's SO CUTE.

That, and some of the most likely evolution theme in my head (gentleman suit, Phantom of the Opera ect) seem to have real potential.

As always, the final stage will matter the most though. The seal or the kitty could surprise me.

dinosaurs evolved to birds

Been at work all evening so I've had a lot of time to think about the starters and I think what I really like about them is how Game Freak seem to have deviated from the traditional body types and colours you'd associate with starters (well, except Pupplio's colouring).

If you look at most starter Pokemon they tend to follow the same "big head, smaller, kinda broad-ish body", aka the perfect kind of shape to make a nice plushie out of. But I dunno if it's just me but I'm just not getting that from these. First of all, Rowlet's body shape is completely different from any starter Pokemon, period. From a Pokemon standpoint Litten's proportions are aren't that far off an actual animal, and Pupplio has this kinda weird slim and long body shape that is pretty uncommon with starters as well. In my opinion it's this that's making them stand out quite considerably from the what has come before, and it's probably also why some of the opinions seem so polarising as well, but they really excite me and I can't wait to see where this all leads to in terms of Generation VII Pokemon design.

There is a distinct lack of green on the Grass starter.

It's cream colored so that counts for something right? Besides cyndaquil and it's evos were mostly blue ignoring their red shinies lol.

Chespin already broke that tend in gen 6 by being the first mammalian (hedgehog) grass starter

Litten looks pretty good, disliking Popplio. Wanted to say Rowlet looked meh but then he did this...

...which instantly reminded me that owls are the best and therefor Rowlet is the best. Though as usual, I will base my pick on their final evolution.

I'm kinda indifferent towards the legendaries. The sun lion looks a bit better but since the moon butterfly is clearly inspired from a Dark Souls 1 boss, I will probably go for Moon.

I don't want Fire/Poison because of that x4 Earthquake damage

All they have to do is put this in the game dialogue. It already makes sense for the world (what about all the trainers who start their journey from the strongest city?).

I hate the idea that apparently "Origins did this first" when even BW2 has this outright stated, and fuck, even the anime as far as OS has this.

Well there's cyndaquil, I mean what is he supposed to be?

I think even the manga had it from the start, which makes sense since it's based on how Pokemon was conceived before it was "video game"-ized

if bw2 states this then why can't we change up the order we go to

oh right because of stupid shit like this

that was a meta humor tho, I'm surprised people didn't get that joke

though at least it's more believable than closing the pathway because a guard won't let you because he's thirsty and apparently a scalding hot coffee would cure that

It sucks that they got rid of the concept of rivals in Pokemon. Everyone's friends now. Except the Evil Team (whoever they are).

define rival, since last I checked you can still be in friendly terms with a rival

Well there's cyndaquil, I mean what is he supposed to be?

It's supposed to be a porcupine. Thing is, until Gen 3 Pokemon had a really bad localizing group that you get shit like Shellfish Pokemon on a fucking Squirtle. It's why you get "Fire Mouse" on Cyndaquil as a literal translation even if it would actually mean something different.

I agree, I miss the edgy assholes that kept challenging you to battles when you least expected it in the first 2 gens. I don't mind having friends as "rivals" sometimes but it's kind of sad they never went back to the mean ones.

Was Wally the last true Rival? he was a pretty good challange...if he had been a few levels higher, decent team, but mean was he always way under level.

I can't remember black or White that much, so they might have had the last true rival

Some people just don't like certain types, I guess.

Personally, I've never really been a fan of the grass starters (Turtwig's ok and Snivy too), so I usually go fire or water. To each their own.

But then they just wouldn't choose them because they don't appeal to them so there would be no need for a rule. I generally don't like fighting types but that didn't stop me from loving Hawlucha.

Its not about whether they are your friend or not. Blue technically was your friend...he just was an asshole.

My main issue with recent rivals is that I felt like I was crushing their dreams. Especially gen 6's rivals. Serena/Calum were children of some hot shot trainers, knew their shit and all that...and yet some kid who just arrived stomped all over them with ease, got the mega bracelet, save the world and everyone loves them. Like goddam man.

Cheren and Bianca weren't difficult but each at least found their place within the world (although I wish Cheren was more of a challenge since he seemed like he was trying to keep up). Barry (which I learned in retrospect) , again not a challenge, was atleast always a step ahead of you and for me (and partially due to my rule of not reusing pokemon I used before) he occasionally was tough to beat...he even has a mini arc of learning that he has to actually take things a bit more serious after getting styled on by Team Galactic peeps.

I get that, since I am a series vet by this point, it never will be "OMG SUPER DIFFICULT" thats not really what the series is about afterall...but at least put on airs that this person is worth my time. Gen 6 made me feel like a bully lol. At least Wally was supposed to be someone weaker than me...

Nah, Blue was your friend but something happened and became an asshole since, but all of that was stated in the manual. Never really referenced much. And honestly if someone is an asshole to me I'd sever ties with the guy. I'm not like that guy called Takumi from Kamen Rider Faiz who even calls the guy telling people not to trust him because he has a crush on the girl he is protecting a "friend".

While I do agree XY's rival is weak, I though it was hilarious. Because it's seeing a journey of the protag you didn't pick. Like they knew "they were supposed to be the chosen one but they weren't!"

I want a battle lust rival. They always make good combatants.

Mandatory loss battle against an overleveled rival to further the story.

You know, like an RPG.

That's what I'd want too, and I think even the games have a unique dialog when you lose to them, but what can we do?

At least you are beating someone whos not kind to you.

Later friends are so nice to you that you even feel bad for winning.

Err this is a new thing? If a friend challenges me I'll always accept and won't feel bad about winning against them. The only time you will feel like that is, as said, XY's rival. And that's because it's hilarious.

A space bat.
Would I be terrible and unoriginal for naming it "Antasma"?

I hope the rival is an arrogant douchbag. I'm tired of weak ass idiots.
Super Boss Wally is the exact opposite of "weak" and "idiot", whom also received further development thanks to ORAS. (I hate how you have to unlock the extra fight(s) with him though)
an asshole who you hate and want to kick their ass
Hating everyone you compete against sounds depressing.
I miss the chibi overworld style already.

The old games overworld sprites were always chibi style compared to the portraits, in classic RPG fashion.

might as well be yokai watch now
If you're one of the many people that asks for a mainline pokemon console game then the non-chibi art should be a complete nonissue.

Make Bass.EXE a pokemon trainer, have him punch someone like Hugh did to a Team Plasma member and we're good.

Will have to check the full trailer and details later. Think I'm in for the grass starter though. Hopefully the evolutions are better for the other two though.
