It's definitely a slower burn. It really ramps up around episode 17-20ish. But you'll see slow escalation towards that point.
At least I'll be close to that before the week is over. I watch about 3 anime eps every morning. I just hope Nekki Basara gets new songs cause whatever he shouts in the first three episodes I need to bleach out of my head.

He does. The concentration of Planet Dance decreases as you go on.

Thank god. I don't hate the song, but the harshness/intensity of Basara's vocals and the frequency of it is a bit grating. I could listen to the first Frontier OP all damn day, but oy...Basara takes some adjusting. He really takes that "Singing is burning passion" shit to heart.

I'm not sure I'd call Fukuyama's singing harsh.

Well there's definitely an intensity to it, which I'm pretty sure is in character for Basara. You take 60 minutes of his singing straight at six in the morning before you have to go to work. There's also the fact that I'm just used to JPOP Idols. Most of my Anime OP playlist is JPOP females until I start getting to SDF 1 opening, Mellowlink, VOTOMS, the two Victory Gundam OP's and Jojo...
i think the end of macross plus part 3 is confusing me:
where sharon tells myung she was born from her and that this other is born in me...
I haven't seen Plus in years, I'm quite sure I just forgot about it.

She's an AI based on Myung's mind. She's fully sentinent, but crazy because she's sort of just ran with Myung's repressed feelings.

I was instantly hyped when I saw macross. Then I saw all of the promo stuff for this and my hype deflated. This is not looking so hot

Put me in the camp that thinks Kumo Kumo is some AI robit as well.

Maybe, I dunno, actually watch it and then judge?

Will never understand why people get confused by or are turned off by what Macross has become.

80s Macross = 80s animation + 80s Jpop

2016 Macross = 2016 Animation + 2016 Jpop

Seems pretty simple to me.

They are a product of their times, and there really isn't any other direction that makes sense for the series.

I dont know why you would assume that I wouldnt watch it. I am allowed to be unimpressed initially. I am sure there are plenty of shows that you had a bad impression on and then later on liked.

Bruh but you dont even know my history with macross, no need to make some assumptions like I dont understand the show. Macross is the stuff that got me into anime. Really enjoyed macross frontier too.

Well, then what exactly didn't look so hot to you? It looked like classic Macross to me from day 1.

Another Frontier lover representing. I think the biggest difference was that Frontier and Delta are tonally different. Frontier is serious with a good balance of comedy and romance while Delta is more lighthearted so far. The idols in Delta are too spread out...none of them really come off as fleshed out characters to me so far.

Ehhhhhhh I don't think it's fair to make that sort of judgement this early. Though I do think that this will be different tonally in the end.

At this point didn't Frontier already have an entire episode where the characters are chasing Sheryl's panties across town?

while every's discussing Delta's hype or not:

here's something classic everyone can love.

from Macross Flashback 2012

Huh. Do the transformed modes even show up in the animation? It's been a while since I saw Flashback 2012 but I only remember seeing the Fighter form.

Don't act like that isn't a great episode. Even that ep managed to show how resilient Sheryl was. I'll put it this way, the show made damn sure you didn't forget the idols names. For the most part I don't give two fucks for Walkure currently.

it never does, Shoji Kawamori finish the transformation design and battroid CAD years later which appeared in the playstation video game Macross Digital Mission VF-X

That's a simplification of what Macross is about that kinda misses the point. The series isn't just animation and music. At its core, it's a sci-fi series about the clashing of civilizations/cultures with a focus on music because of its importance to society It also shows the experiences of the characters as they go through this conflict and etc. Idols were a part of SDF Macross, no doubt, but it was the smaller component behind the sci-fi story.

Mac 7 is definitely where this starts to go haywire a bit but there's still a sci-fi story in there, along with Basara's singing, that manages to kind of hit the original's heart even if it colors outside of the lines with crayons, lol.

Edit: Thinking about it. Big reason I don't like Frontier is that it swings and whiffs hard on what gave SDF Macross more wide appeal despite Minmei, lol

How did the non Japanese people on here even play Macross games? I remember a Macross demo coming stateside on a sampler disc, I used to play it at a Toys R Us all the time, but the game never came stateside.

Yeah, I am not saying it was a bad episode.

I just don't think the two series are as tonally different as you are making it out to be, especially at this stage.

I actually like the Walkure a lot, because they aren't just pretty girls to be defended and have actual agency even if it is framed in a silly almost magical girl style way.

Hopefully, each member does get some decent development through the series. I liked some of the details we were given for Makina and Reina in ep 07.

And while Sheryl is easily one of the best characters in the series, I NEVER liked Ranka and she got on my nerves more often than not.

I was just specifically commenting on what I expected he was taking issue with, the idol groups.
I also think you are just focusing on parts that you personally liked. A LOT of the original series is about the love triangle and Minmei in particular.

I mean the final 10 episodes or so are actually AFTER the main conflict that is the crux of the Sci-fi story has been concluded and mostly focuses on the love triangle and Minmei 'getting her groove back'.

Macross 7 is definitely where things got really crazy, but I would even say those aspects were starting to be focused on more starting with the DYRL movie. There is a lot more focus on idol culture, and the way they
rewrote Hikaru and Minmei's first meeting by making him into some sort of super fan is pretty telling IMO.

Ranka loses simply because Ranka isn't Sheryl, but yeah I can easily see why she would become annoying. She didn't realize she lost the game even in the end, that and smuggling a fucking Vajra larvae every where wasn't exactly good. I think I just think they're different cause I marathoned the shit out of Frontier and Frontier had an insect crush the life out of a dude in the first ep. That and lives kind of where at a higher risk in Frontier. In Delta they're just currently at war with a bunch of humanoids with their genitalia on their heads. Not to mention I dug the shit out of Frontiers music and I liked the side characters and the Roy Fokker clone more...I still don't know who the Roy Fokker clone is in Delta. Delta's not all bad though. I'm looking forward to more Mirage.

Ep 6 of Delta. Lol at Grim Reaper be Reapin. Mirage flys by the book and just doesn't know how to go with the flow it seems. Does make sense that she's not the best pilot in her squad, She's good, but she's predictable. I will admit that the Delta OP is growing on me, it's not Frontier or OG Macross good, but I like it a lot more than the one in M7. Seems like Hayate's current piloting skills is like a well worn pimp hand. He pretty much beats the shit out of his machinery. I'm loving this space battle. Mirage and Hayate working as a team and I think he just hit somebody with the fucking Char kick. Just finished it. Damn good episode, loved that space battle song, favorite one so far I think. I don't even think I hate the show, just hate the fact that I have to take my time with my absorption of it. This probably the most Mirage of the show so far and I was right, she's a very workable character, she managed to actually help Hayate get over killing some dude, which I thought was going to be Freyja's job, but Mirage handled it perfectly.

Who is the person doing the singing at the beginning of ep 6 of M7? Her song is really fucking good. The woman has short blue hair and I think she's even doing the singing on some of the songs that play in the background.

Yea M7 is so padded and dragged out. Would have been a great 26 ep series really.
I'm surprised Basara hasn't been shot down yet. I'd like to fucking think after the Zentraedi freaked out over his god damn singing enough fucking times they'd either capture his ass to figure how he's making Deculture or shoot him the fuck down. The Protodevlin seem like fucking idiots. The Vajra wouldn't have given two fucks though, he'd just be food. "Vajra, listen to my song...AAAAHHHHHH!!!" *explosion* So far only Max and his ill fitting uniform and Millia are keeping me there. Gamlin doesn't seem too bad now at least.
