Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

kazdancez5zxv.gif

This is pretty much how I imagine Kaz reacting to the past years of craziness around GT. "Games still sell, don't give a fuck".

Man were people really suggesting that GTS looked/felt/sounded like GT6? After seeing all this gameplay videos i guess those people might change their mind.

Going to be interesting to see how the game is in next few months maybe at E3 .
Over the last few days the newer builds seem to be going in the right direction .

We might not have to wait for E3 to get something new

Pay special attention to the squeals from the tires. As some members have already pointed out in our community, the videos emerging from the public event on Friday showcase subtly different notes of over-stressed rubber compared to the Thursday livestream competition. This aligns with reports that Polyphony were receiving new builds on a daily basis. With GT Sport scheduled to appear at the Nürburgring 24H race this upcoming weekend, perhaps there will be some surprises in store…

Given that the GTP guys are in the know about stuff going on with the series (they've known about the livery editor for a long time now), that sorta seems like they know something that's going to be shown this upcoming weekend. Maybe the first look at the new day/night cycle?

PD releasing the worst trailer of all time + the really early impressions from the event this week might have turned some people off from GTS for good.

At least they now have room to underpromise and overdeliver this time.

Now here is a old crappy pic of GT6 but basically GTS still does this.
Any GTS footage out there? is this confirmed is what I'm asking. where did you hear it is the same in GTS as it is in GT6? because I remember reading that the reflections in GTS are different because they refresh every other frame. That would be odd if it is the same as GT6 but works differently.

Forza's UI is ok, DiRT's is ok too, but Driveclubs was hot and clean at the same time, and it felt so fast and snappy. The UI in GTS looks very close to that, if it's structured well to find all the features intuitively without having to guess where to find what, it could be just as good as DC's. But why is the mouse cursor still there?? They are willing to let go of the iconic GT menu sounds, but not the mouse cursor?

Because this time, you can move it around freely with the left analog stick.

Makes navigating complex screens with many interactive elements much easier.

I doubt it. This is i think an ever updating GT based on the initial reveal some time ago. They dropped the numbers.
I dunno about that. I still fully expect a 'GT7' to come out eventually..probably towards the end of PS4's run with the Neo version having some significant upgrades.

ive been searching for 30 mins. please can someone link me to the gt sport conference video where kaz and interpretor is talking about the game...its about 40 mins long

thanks

If it that was good, more games would use it and put more stuff on the screen (edit: rather than do submenus under submenus). Also the steam controller would sell a lot worse than it does. Last but not least, practically no racing wheel has an analog stick (I only know of the new GTS Thrustmaster wheel that does). Even all the PC racing sims go away from menus that rely on mouse navigation.

First impressions last, unfortunately. The trailer and the streamed races looked awful, but thankfully better footage has emerged since.

Why PD didn't preface the event with some direct feed offline gameplay is anybody's guess. The shitstorm could easily have been avoided entirely.

Maybe they expected people that are not really interested in the game to not troll and people in general to not jump to conclusions before the trailer was even released. I mean, some people were saying that the game would look, play and sound worse than even GT5. They were expecting too much clearly :P

So is this basically GT Prologue for GT7?

No, I think this is the GT. For all the talk of Kaz standing still it looks like he's positioned GT firmly into the e-sports camp and is trying to build up a title based around competitive online racing. GT Sports is the new moniker.

Cant find it at the moment, but there was a video on youtube where a guy basically explained how Gran Turismo handled engine notes/sounds.

Basically, they got a single engine note, and stretched it digitally. Hence the terrible sounds. They are still improving, but I think the same process is still in effect in GTS...

Maybe someone else can post the vid it if they can find it.

Gran Turismo has traditionally always been more about the love affair with cars, about collecting and cherishing them, photographing them, about the Sunday drive. Racing was almost an afterthought. The music, controversial as it's always been, was always a big contributor to that relaxed vibe. However, there's a weird juxtaposition now that GT Sport is apparently aiming for more of a motorsport focus. The pre-race music feels totally inappropriate. It should be getting the blood pumping and the adrenaline flowing, building tension for the race, evoking feelings of danger, and glory. Instead it sounds like you're in line at the grocery checkout, waiting for the old lady in front of you to stop fiddling with her change. It hardly builds anticipation for a tough, dangerous race ahead.

It's one of the things Shift 2 did well

...and another example

I dunno, maybe GTS isn't trying to deviate far at all from the structure and overall 'feeling' of GT 1-6 apart from having an FIA licence stapled to it and aspirations of e-sports. Strip away those bits and yep, it could be GT7 Prologue. I guess I was rather hoping that this really would be a tightly-focussed motorsports title, an authentic spin-off to sit alongside GT7, not as a replacement for it.

That sounds awful to me. Leave the theatrical shit music out of my GT.

sry google translate'

there will be many damage (off for presentation, because nobody would have finished a tour of nurb according kaz), the day / night cycle as well as the weather conditions, but obviously not dynamic (as in forza 6, the day / night cycle in less)

So full damage and day/night cycle confirmed ?

That was the vacuum sound effect where the engine note completely got faded away at higher revs is what that video showed. The new GTS sound video from Alan TeamVV shows that's been improved and removed.

Polyphony is using an AES audio engine synthesizer for GTS similar to this. It's able to reproduce accurate engine notes based on parameters, but obviously it isn't able to reproduce all that gets heard from the car.

if you just take the engine+exhaust revving up from 4500rpm to almost redline sound, GTS does sound improved and kinda acceptable. That the tunnel reverb is not there yet - but definitely will come later - means that the sound is far from finished. I'll do my best to shut up about it for now until they're very close to a review-build.

I'm warming up to the scapes idea and how it could lead to discussion between 15 year olds and fathers and grandfathers about cars and racing history (do they have some good historic race cars in the game yet?). Not that it's a new idea, but I'm warming up to why it's important to PD (also: $.$ for car manufacturers that I'm paying for (might be paying for), but whatever).

I was using those as examples. Is there some other music you have in mind, or are you saying you think elevator jazz and supermarket muzak is appropriate for generating atmosphere and tension before a motorsport race? It was ok (ok, it was never ok lol) for previous collecting-and-driving GTs, but for one that's a FIA-licenced self-styled authentic motorsport sim? Seems out of place and wholly inappropriate to me. *shrugs*

Maybe it would detract from the whole if there was a drastic departure in music pairing. I say that because I played the first 2 games using Japanese copies. When I saw the difference in music choices for the western releases, it felt completely out of place. Starting on GT3 the soundtracks were normalized between regions and that disconnect went away.

My point is, part of the GT character is the supermarket muzak and elevator smooth jazz, and the menus set in Helvetica, the race start chime. Those things add up. But you have a point, a little more edge could help.

Agreed, its part of GTs DNA if you will, sets it apart of every other racer imo. but for trailers you are right.

The GT5 spec 2.0 intro was pretty hype with the Daiko Kasho Soul on display song.

PD had the guts to make an event with a game in alpha stage. They knew that a shit storm is coming, and that's why I think they are sure that they can deliver.

They had to do something and I think this event was the replacement for the public beta they failed to deliver. Kaz said the reason being that it takes the same 3 months to make a gold master and would mean missing a 2016 launch as well as doing a gold master twice.

I suspect a lot of pressure is on PD from Sony execs too. Where there any of the execs at the event or commented on it? I know there were interviews with them after the PGW announcement but haven't read or heard a peep out of them from the London event?

The Interviews are still coming, as for the game I'm sure that on PS4 hardware they will deliver.

I would think that is the least offensive type of music and therefore the most appropriate to the most amount of people. Of course that is not exactly going to be the best music choice for most because everyone has different taste. For example Lewis Hamilton likes Kendrick Lamar Backseat Freestyle but that's a pretty inappropriate song for a lot of people because it raps about how many bitches he has and how big his dick is. Everyone has different taste. On the grand scheme of things it's a pretty small nit pick/complaint about the game because you have had custom soundtracks since GT5 and on PS4 you can put pretty much whatever you like on with spotify.
