Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

First impressions last, unfortunately. The trailer and the streamed races looked awful, but thankfully better footage has emerged since.

Why PD didn't preface the event with some direct feed offline gameplay is anybody's guess. The shitstorm could easily have been avoided entirely.

Only for the impatient and shallow. The phrase itself leads to it becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy, and expectation that upon first view everything absolutely MUST be perfect.

Which, quite frankly, is idiocy and leads to this kind of nonsense:

PD releasing the worst trailer of all time + the really early impressions from the event this week might have turned some people off from GTS for good.

At least they now have room to underpromise and overdeliver this time.

Not criticising Grover for saying this obvs, but that whole mentality of 'OMG THIS FIRST VIEW LOOKS LIKE SHIT!! = NO BUY FROM ME KAZ!!!' is completely beyond me.

Games, like any other media, need to be judged on their final content, not on a first viewing.

Yep i remember when we first saw UC4 and DC game play it was the same thing then .
GTS needs to improve more but there is time for that when the game comes out and even afterwards .
6 months from now if it good most people not going care about this .

For anyone remotely interested in audio, here's a vid from Mike Caviezel (the Turn 10 guy turned PD guy) on the creation of sounds for car games.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwhycFQQedM

At the moment, the only thing I like about the sounds in GTS is that they have finally added a better turbo spool and BOV..much better than the 90's version they've been using since day 1 lol..

Look, all I want is someone from PD to come out, no PR bullshit, no beating around the bush, and just say whether the audio in place is pretty much close to final, or if there will be something different for the final build.
Being just 'good enough' or 'tolerable' just doesn't cut it for me in 2016. Almost every developer out there, whether the team has 10's of people or 100's of people working on a game, has some great audio implemented in their product.

There is no excuse for PD to be the odd ones out..especially now that they don't have 100000 cars in their roster.....

You're working on the assumption that their response can be as as black & white as you've framed the question.

Perhaps it launches with 30% of cats with amazing audio, 30% ok & 40% 'needs more work' which will be patched in. They might launch with tyre sounds great for everything or just some tyre types.

PD are held to a higher standard then some "two guys coding at the basement" Kickstarter game. With 130 cars and the time since the last installment there is no excuse for any of this.

Especially when Kaz publicly acknowledged GT's audio deficiencies as far back as GT5, and pledged to make it a priority going forward. GT Sport appears to have better audio than previous installments but, based on current evidence, it's still the absolute worst among its contemporaries by a country mile. Who knows, maybe PD have big plans for it prior to launch. Or maybe they just can't do good audio, even with specialists now on board.

Well said man.....Been thinking this since PDs sound first became an "issue".

The worst thing about trying to support GT is the lack of community management. It feels like everyone's opinions and feedback falls on deaf ears every time.

Translator-san writes them all down in his notepad and when it's full, he puts it in an airtight storage room 50m beneath the PD headquarter, for it to never resurface again!

Yeah, I'm sure those same people will be back in later threads when new trailers are shown. GT is a trusted brand at this point so the end product is more important, rather than a new IP whose initial impressions will have greater weight.

I agree it's easy to pass a game off even with my negative feelings toward gearbox's new game I will still try it eventually and see how it goes.

I am sure I will buy GT because I really love the driving model, tracks and overall visual appeal.

I do not give them the benefit of the doubt with their bumper cars and physics on car intereaction at all.

The biggest things for me for them to fix are

Sound effects - tires, car to car etc (don't even care about engine)
car to car interaction pyhsics (had it since ps1 and earlier, I mean come on)
Getting all the tracks equally upto date and in the game.

Making Nascar racing more like Nascar whenever it's implemented if it is.

Making the dirt, mud racing much better in physics and overall effects.

Those are some of the things I would like to see more of and I'd like to see cars have more physics to their weight and car handling (this goes for all games) I never feel any game gets the feeling of a car really putting weight to the ground by physics and traction, weight shifts and burnouts. No matter how games do it, they simply just don't feel lie a car does..

How do you come to that conclusion?

By reading it. It's shallow and full of vague impressions that don't hold. For instance, saying that the handling is as "realistic as ever" points to a writer who doesn't have that much of repertoire for comparing things. GT always had some nice simcade physics - and I don't think there is nothing wrong with this approach - but saying that simcade handling is realistic is BS, or ignorance.

The fact this needs to be considered in a AAA racing game in 2016 with unlimited resources is astounding.

This is the bit gaf is getting most incorrect. PD are listening, but they are just like a huge ship slow to turn around. Take the presentation, what was the very first point? Quality. Everyone was raging out standard cars and saying it should be premium only and focus on quality over quantity. And that has been PDs mantra this whole reveal. First point quality and only super premium cars, then onto the reduction in tracks to focus on the better ones. Even the 50% thing has been misused, he said 50% quality, not 50% finished.

While PD do overall deserve a little roasting, they don't deserve all of what they are getting.

That's a great track. No room for error. Would like to see that at night.

NIght and raining. It will be like this all over again expect with even more bumping:

God damn the music is awful.

It's like some 90's JRPG music. In fact it also reminds me of the music from Klonoa on the PS1.

Let's not do this. It's the opinion of someone who has played the game, none of us have. Who are we to say he's wrong. It's the same bullshit that comes up in review threads. He's previously reviewed NFS and The Crew for what it's worth so it might feel like a sim to him. Not everyone is well seasoned in rFactor or iRacing.

The whole point of reviews/previews is to get as wide a range of opinions as possible.

They're a multi million game selling AAA studio, if this is how it ends up being, after GT6 was exactly the same, then they need to get a grip. Top class audio that rivals the competition, end of story. No excuse for "oh well some cars have it and we're working on the rest". They've had ALL the time in the world and surely aren't short on funds given their place in the industry, simply no excuse.

Really? They don't deserve it? How long does it to take to implement authentic car sounds, proper collision physics and realistic AI? 10 years and counting. Yea, i guess we should all just be thankful.......

This could be said to all racing sims but I have feeling you won't be saying it.

Where's the Q&A?

Did anybody ask about bikes and Isle of Man?
Yamauchi-san has been asked about a lot a new Tourist Trophy game or any kind of appearance for motorbikes in Polyphony’s games, and that’s not outside the realm of possibility, but at the moment he can’t say, because the studio is focusing on GT SPort.

But why should the market leader with virtually unlimited resources be in last place? They all need work but the fact that GT needs the most is incredible. I expect games that have kickstarter campaigns and early access to need it. Hell, I'd be happy with them just copying the collision physics from Drive Club, that's how bad it's in gt.

I'm not saying this press release has no point, I'm saying it's weak and nobody should base any impressions on it (I mean, unless you feel the urge to find anything that makes the game looks better).

You don't have to look far away to find more grounded articles by other outlets, ranging from fan sites like GT Planet and more racing focused ones, like Team VVV and many others.

Last place in your view. Don't get it twisted.

They presented very convincing collisions in some early GT5 demos. PD can take some design approaches that can't be liked by everyone but they are very capable of increase the authenticity of the simulation to an higher level if they want. Maybe too much realism would not fit statistically in a blockbuster game and could alienate most of their players. People at times forget that GT is a sim meant for a big spectre of car lovers, not just videogame players and not for a small crowd of sim players obsessed with realism in everything. What it would be nice would be a "hardcore mode" with no concessions, but that also could not fit in their game design balance or approach.

I believe the game shipped like that, but was quickly patched as there was some bug where cars would get stuck together at slight contact and they never went back to it, really disappointing

Still the worse lookin track so far
I agree. The tunnel sections look fine, but the buildings... I think an official screenshot was released of the buildings, and some guy commented it looks like a ps2 game. Usually I write those things off as hyperbole, but honestly, those buildings did look like they were straight out of a ps2 game. Reminded me of Spiderman 2. Hoping it's one of the more unfinished tracks so far (trackside detail wise).

There's a gif from that same timeline of that Subaru crashing convincingly with (I think) a bumper hanging off and one of its doors hanging open. It looked spectacular. Come game release time it's as if it never even existed. So, so disappointing. An amazing bait 'n' switch.
