Gran Turismo Sport Unveiling live stream discussion (incl. FIA Championship gameplay)

Please don't tell me they're taking down the gameplay footage but leaving up that trailer. The gameplay was the best part of that presentation.

Pretty much... the f***?

They should remove that disgraceful trailer too. Easily the worst GT trailer ever conceived.

Fucking farce. Maybe they've actually realised their lovely game which they're all so proud of is a massive disappointment to a huge contingent of fans (and press). Time to come back to Earth and fix it. Make proper communications with the fanbase. Stop promising the earth and then never delivering etc.

As the drama unfolds, I find the answers i seek are all in this gif.

About everything showed last week.

Great.

It is really a good improvement over the already great GT6... I can't wait to play it.

Huh, I thought they would do the opposite and re-release a trailer with footage from a more up to date build. So that it would remove inconsistencies. Unless they are about to release an even newer build to everyone.

This is amazing... it's not even been a week, and yet Sony and PD are continuing to make a mess of their PR

The criticism from Eurogamer was especially significant IMO, given that with both GT5 and GT6, they noted a number of problems in their reviews, but gave both games a 9, anyway. It seemed to me like Eurogamer no longer felt... embarrassed... to criticise GT, and didn't shy away from its problems with their preview of GTS.

Sorry if this has been asked and answered already, but does GTS have any real campaign?

I see introductory tutorials and training, track mastery events (time trials?), racing etiquette and specific challenges.

What I don't see is any kind of progression or career mode made up of races against AI.

Is the single player stuff here all just tutorials and practice for multiplayer?

They should take down the shameful official trailer :D
Btw damage is done, at least they are aware of the fact that people expect much more at this point compared to what they showed last week.

We can. If so I expect another delay lol. They could have had a remaster of GT6 to PS4 and made it look pretty damn glorious and have it release a year ago in any sane world. One of the most inefficient studios out there? I honestly feel like it is.

To be honest, they didn't promise much, but based on past revelations, for each first GT game on a new console, we expected to be impressed, not to be underwhelmed like that. Frankly speaking, the PR around the franchise for the past 3-4 years has been comical at best, down right amateurish at worst.

I felt like that the moment they hit PS3 era development.

They have said previously there would be a career mode or campaign. They didn't really discuss it at this last event though.

They lost their plot as game developers long ago.
They need a huge restructuring, unfortunately Sony has been too complacent so far because of good sales and past glories.
But this series is starting to feel like Ridge Racer. A relic of the past.
I hope that the negative reception they got can positevely shake things up.

Some negative press that resonates through Sony and down to PD would be better for everyone in the long run, including the gamers. Free reign has limits, and I think Kaz hit that with GT5 and it seems like he hasn't been reigned in, or given a reality check at all. The whole digital FIA driver's license thing is utterly pointless and will be just as meaningful as GT TV was for the franchise in the long run. I also thought they appointed a community manager as far back as GT5 year one? What the hell has that person been doing? I know PD gets tons of free community managers in the form of people like Jordan over at GTPlanet, but a company of that side needs a proper one to help prevent situations like we are seeing right now.

They have said previously there would be a career mode or campaign. They didn't really discuss it at this last event though.
They did drill down into campaign at the event. Its made up of:

Beginner's School: Tutorials and basic training. (Sounds like license events)
Circuit Experience: Learn and master the tracks, with commentary. (Sounds like time trials)
Mission Challenges: Quick mini-challenges (Reminds me of the coffee time challenges in GT6. They look very short.)
Racing Etiquette: Sportsmanship, and videos (Useful, but still not career content)

All of that sounds like content focused on training the player for competitive multiplayer, and not like the career modes of previous GTs that provided a progression through race events against AI.

Edit: Found a GTPlanet thread on it, with pictures, here

Lol I posted the link on GTPlanet and they threatened to ban me.

Absolute mess.

PD pulls a dick move on the one and only community standing on their side...

It is shocking that PD/Sony are using GTP like this, but if Jordan is allowing it what can anyone do. Lots of muffled questioning going on over there but all the mods are now gagged. What a mess.

I would also like to see if anyone asked about the tire model..like has GT finally included tire pressures?
I'd too say, "YEA!!!! What's up with that tire pressure, PD?!!!!!!", but Forza's tire pressure before 6 was more on the pathetic side and it's not exactly great in 6 either. Raceroom on the other hand doesn't have adjustable tire pressure, but the tires just feel awesome, I haven't found a car, I'd want to adjust it on. I'd rather fiddle around with the suspension and it allows me to do that in the racing classes and cars that allow it (I mean it's based on ISI's engine and rFactor has tire pressure, so they probably could do it without much of a hassle, don't know why they don't do it).

Do any games let you size rim and tire independently? Or all four wheels independently? I'm sure some do.
rim size and tire SIZE independently? Either I'm getting you wrong, or that could lead to kinda silly setups:

I'm litterally speechless. They endured the official forum debacle already and now this.

Poliphony lives in 1998.

For me its clear since last gen. PD needs a western style management ala Mark Cerny.
Otherwise a crowd founded game will soon crush GT ( if not already)

Damn.

Probably shouldn't have announced or shown anything until much later.

I'm only hoping that Mike Caviezel initiated this.

Mike: "Kaz, I fucking told you man, the audio isn't ready. Give me some time to implement things properly before showing things off. The interWeBz will massacre us at this stage"

Kaz:

Honestly, I don't even need to adjust it, but a decent tire model should be calculating it. I only tend to fiddle with tire pressure once I find a super dialed in setup, but GT games have never been that reliant on tweaking setups in the first place. All the suspension just eats curbs and bumps without much issue so seldom does that need adjusting and the aero never models the drag to downforce/grip trade off correctly, and with the hyper grippy racing slick tire model, unless you were trying to hit a certain PP number, you could crank on a ton of aero without much detriment. Myself and some others had a lengthy discussion about the very poor handling of tire heat and degradation in GT5 and GT6. It really hampers longer races because it makes pit strategies involving different tire compounds moot. Ahh, I remember the good ol days when Super Soft slicks were still faster in a full down pour than wet tires. They patched that though luckily. Edit: I remember from the suggestion of someone of GAF, messing around with the weird version of brake bias PD uses, was actually the most significant change to the cars in GT6, far greater than any suspension tuning. I still don't think it fixed the lack of TTO, TBO and threshold braking, but it certainly made a few cars much more lively with ABS to 0.

Yeah that's right. And yes it could lead to some weird setup if not limited to a range. I'm wondering if there's a game where I can put the same 225 width tire on a 7, 8 or 9 inch rim.

Thank you for being my walking encyclopedia of car sims, btw. Here's another weird question in line with tire pressure.

Any sims allow you to see tread temperature along the width of the tread? Figuring out a good camber setting is harder than it has to be thanks to this absent feature in GT and a tire pressure setting would be needlessly difficult without it as well.

I swear I'm going to go check out some of these other sims for myself but i'm glued to doom now :) and I'm just curious.

Yikes, if that's all there is to the campaign/offline content, then I'm definitely out. Think I'm gonna stop followingkeeping up with news for this game now. Will check in closer to release to see if anything's changed.

I'm actually confident the graphics will be just fine or great by the time it releases. The sound doesn't bother me that much like it does for some others, but they seem to already be improving it based off that mazda vid that was linked before (which is now taken down unforunately). The location count seems decent, and day/night cycles are likely in as well. The only other thing I needed was decent offline content, but as you said this just looks like a bunch of tutorials, time trials, and racing etiquette stuff, rather than a real campaign, so if that doesn't get added in or announced by the time it's about to come out, I'm skipping this release.

I know others model it too, but iRacing just happens to be the sim I play most these days (aside from DiRT) and they model surface and carcass temps at inside, middle and outside of all four tires. I know they talked about it in one of their blog posts, I think they actually model even more detail of the temps across the tire but average them out to the main three sections of inside, middle, outside. They are doing some crazy shit these days with their dynamic tracks and dynamic weather. I wish I had more time to sink my teeth into the oval racing side of iRacing, because that is where a lot of this stuff really shines.

Looks like the Gamersyde quality videos doesn't help this game....

It's still in development, so the window-dressing issues take a backseat to other challenges. Yeah, these are the materials being used to promote it, so that much is on them, but I can't imagine the final game having "scenes" like this.

To be fair, they did explain why they shouldn't be posted but you chose not to mention that part here.

We have been asked to take them down, do you really think that posting further links to them is going to help?

This is not open for discussion.
Whether it was correct or not for Sony to request them to remove them, once GT Planet has decided that it's not going to happen there, doing it is just asking for trouble.

Inside, middle, outside is all you really need. IRL, you would zap the tire three times like that with a pyrometer. It's actually really basic setup. In Iracing, do they just model the temps or do they let you see the temps?

Both. When racing, the telemetry is giving you surface temps, but surface and carcass are all being modeled. Once you pull into the garage, you are able to see the carcass temps as well, just like in real life once the tires could be probed. There may be some 3rd party telemetry plug ins that let you see real time carcass temps, but from my use of it you get surface on track and carcass in garage. My main use of tire pressures is with the skippy since there isn't much to tweak in the setup, and I found I really can get it dialed in for my driving style when I adjust some pressures.

That is really cool. I see that this is considered a super in depth feature, but I find it's omission in many game makes setting the camber obnoxious. It should be kinda basic.

Yikes. I really hope that's not all there is to it.

Well if Sport and Arcade are separate from "Online" maybe some goodies will be hidden in there.
