What is the most opulent thing you've ever experienced personally?

God I love this thread. The jealousy is tangible.

Mate, there's no jealousy from me. The idea of driving in a Rolls Royce to go to my gold studded hotel room for a week or two sounds fucking garish.

Opulence is not something I strive for. My life is about growth and emotional experiences.

Purchased experiences feel a little too forced for my liking.

Also: Fuck Dubai.

This thread is a salt mine. Thanks for sharing OP.

I hope to get to your level some day.

Yeah, some real nasty undertones surfacing from some people in this thread, I hoped Gaf was better than this.

I'm happy for you OP, the photos are awesome. Enjoy life and the experiences you can afford. Ignore the haters.

Purchased experiences feel a little too forced for my liking.

Lol I had to come back and quote this. People pay for experiences every fucking day. Ever been to the zoo? A nice weekend away in a hotel? It's the same shit, just different level of cost.

Tabris...
Where were you that night?

We had the bottles and models flowin

I think I left my black card on the table though

Did you end up going home with that girl? Her friend kept calling me asking for you.

You came into a thread about opulence to complain that you don't strive for opulence? See you in the TV thread to tell us you don't even own a TV, I guess?

I blew half my August 2009 salary for a dinner for two at the Ritz, Piccadilly, London. I said who cares, you only live once. Felt like an alien the whole time

not counting the other £300 I had to spend for dressing up appropriately

Been on 2 cruises in my life. Some of the best food I've ever had, especially once we hit port in Mexico. I still dream about the Pina Coladas.
Went to Pebble Beach in California and ate at a restaurant there. I felt way out of place for several reasons but the cream soda I had there was second to none.

Some accused me of being jealous.

I explained that I wasn't because opulence is not something I want so I'm not jealous of other people for having it.

If I think about it, Opulence to me would be experiencing leaving the atmosphere or being in space - something like that. Something that very few people will ever get an opportunity to do.

Travelling to Dubai to spend a few nights in a hotel run by Australians and Brits doesn't feel particularly special.

Well we got as close as we could :) Maybe next time! :O

I'll either make it big with my business and/or startup ideas, or I'll be penniless in social housing when I'm old. But either way I'll have amazing memories of experiences I got to enjoy when I was most full of life.

Only thing I have in savings or investment portfolio is money intended to be spent in the short term or for down payment, just to get something out of it. Nothing very long term or for retirement.

Maybe I'll change my mind when I have kids, but I'm not ready to spend my days smoking brisket and watching friends yet.

It's never too late to put a little something away for retirement. A little bit each year compounds nicely.
Are you younger or older than Christian Bale was when he played Patrick Bateman?

Well, that's not what opulence means so you might want to experience a dictionary. There are other words to use that mean what you're trying to convey. Feel free to start a thread about your transcendent experiences but coming into a thread to shit on it because you don't want that is the leading sign of jealousy according to doctor science.

I don't know why, but that made me chuckle. I love cream soda, btw.

Sorry Aselith.

You're right. It is incredibly opulent to visit the desert.

why am I not surprised this is another Tabris thread.

You sure did all this mate, or did you fuck off playing Far Harbor in your highrise apartment in Kits?

Why are some people so salty in here? Jeez.

Guy is a known blow hard who embellishes himself to look better then he is. Ask anybody in Vancouver-GAF who has had the misfortune to talk to him.

Also blew off a GAF meetup so he could play Fallout 4 some more. Also considers himself an "asian culture specialist'

Of course, those runners are so comfortable. I changed into these before dinner at Atmosphere though.

Those are the type of shoes you should always wear in public, no one cares how comfortable you are. I mean if you have to stoop so low, at least buy a pair of Gondolier or something.

i stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel And Casino in Miami, it was nice.

i didnt go with my family in another trips, specially the one they went to New York i heard they went to nice places and shit

Ah, ok.

Still an interesting thread though, reading through people's experiences.

Tabris: you're now officially required, under penalty of permanent ban, to personally donate a minimum of $1000 USD to a vetted non-profit charitable organization aimed at improving quality of life for the less privileged and/or saving lives, e.g. UNICEF, at no discernible direct benefit to yourself (so no planting a tree in some Vancouver fundraiser and getting a plaque somewhere with your name on it and an invite to a black tie event where you try to get laid), and provide accompanying legitimate documentation of doing so to me personally, in explicit conjunction with any brag thread you would like to post on NeoGAF from this point onward and until stated otherwise. Meaning that the donation is made within the same 24 hour period that you would like to post the brag thread to directly offset it, so not documentation referencing an otherwise occurring standard annual contribution.

Should be a non-issue for someone of your staggering opulence, and you can even mention in the OP of the brag threads that you provided clean drinking water for an impoverished community or funded the cost of antiretrovirals for a baby to be born HIV-free or whatever cause you funded that time, making your brag thread that much more brag-worthy.

This thread should have been locked after this. Good lord EviLore i'm dying.

One of the many perks of dating Asians.

Yellow fever, mayn.

Probably either a suite at Belagio or the room my wife and I stayed in at the Sheraton Maui; which overlooked black rock at kaanapali beach.

I dont hate him in the slightest.

I just think this is pure fucking bullshit.

The word basically means luxury; he drove in a luxury car to a luxury hotel. It's certainly really expensive, which is another aspect of opulence..

If it's not something you are interested in that doesn't suddenly make it not an example of opulence

Honestly Tabris, Good for you. If you have the money and you earned it you spend it how you want. Also it's awesome to see the shit you did and get a view of it.

Personally I can't even recall the most opulent thing I've ever done. It won't be anything mind blowing. I've been to some nice places and done some nice things but nothing sticks out as opulent.

Had to look that word up and I realised why I didn't know it...

Spent a week in Hawaii on the north Shore, beach front house. I'd get up, make coffee and watch professional surfers do their thing.
