Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

A 6TF console in 2017 would be awesome. It will be really interesting to see how the market (and devs) reacts when this and PS4NEO are in the wild.

You wanted $800 consoles?

I have a 1600e PC. Gaming is a major hobby for me and one that I have always been willing to invest in. It's all about the games for me and their quality. I want better. I don't necessarily "want" expensive consoles but I'm willing to pay for it if the tech is there.

Sucks for people who got an XBO (me included) but this situation of consoles barely keeping up with the PC (Uncharted 4 is a tech marvel and unfortunately the exception) needs to end as soon as possible. Don't mind tradition. Change things up, especially if you screwed up as badly as MS did with the XBO. I'm all for it.

Yep.

Serious question. How far set in stone are Sony? Could they just hold off Neo for this Christmas and release something in the 6 teraflop range around the same time as Scorpio?

I always felt Neo was rushing it a bit.

If it's releasing in October as per a rumour l read well they must be building and stockpiling them now i'd of thought.

according to my uncle at nintendo they are prepared to go up to 20 teraflops if needed aka full super saiyan goku

If they just want games to look bettter and better like they did with xbox > 360

I feel it's killing the art of the game and making people want the best looking games or forget style. It's not the best thing in my mind. This practice has not been kind to the developers and the health of gaming.

but agree with the above anyways, sony could easily afford to wait a year and launch more power/cheaper

Sony is going to go first and maybe take a huge lead in VR so maybe that plan will actually win out if people are a bit saturated or tired of it by the time xbox rolls it out also

Should be interesting to watch all of the die hard Sony guys flip flop from "sales and power 4 life! hahaha" to "you xbots talking sales and power. I'm playing games. Can your Xbox run Uncharted 4" So many fucking frauds lmao
Should also be amusing to watch Microsoft run Xbox into the ground like Windows phone and their operating systems...

Why would the flip flop from sales ?
Maybe power but if the system coming a year later it should be more powerful .

I admit that I am torn on what to do. I have a big PS4 library and I really don't like having multiple consoles if I can avoid it but that performance delta could be tough to ignore. We will have to see how things pan out.

There are several math failures at play here.

4 x 1.3 = 5.2, so it would have been more accurate to ~4.5 times in this case if you're keeping numbers simple, or 4.6 to be actually accurate.

PS4 Neo is exactly 4.197888 TFLOPS based on the rumors, so where does 4.14 come from? I can only guess that they rounded the clock down to 900MHz for some reason. Sounds like someone was being lazy. The couldn't even be bothered to properly round up to 4.15 in that case.

I'm also curious on how they would get there. They can't possibly be crazy enough to use a full Polaris 10, can they? That would be hell in terms of yields, especially since it would need to run at a rather high ~1.2GHz. Maybe it could be Vega 11, but that seems too large.

Lmao, dude straight stumbled out of his flops.

Reading this thread I've realized that the general mood towards Xbox hasn't changed much in the last 3 years or so. Cloud jokes, 30 percent jokes, VCR jokes. Well those are actually funny because they seem like the drunk guy at the bar that still tells the story about the time he "totally owned this guy at Homecoming". But even that stuff aside it's just a generally down and "they'll fuck it up" mood. I've been paying more attention attention to the PC (and VR in particular) but it's interesting to see how far their public perception has fallen with the hardcore. I wonder if they can even claw any of that back now? They obviously don't have much sway with the PC crowd.

Lol, and then you have Icy on the other side. Chill fam.

Just going with a good gaming rig makes more sense than it ever has for me with all of this news. As I mentioned earlier, I might end up doing that before it's over.

Sounds like it's next gen rather than iterative console.

If it simply runs current gen games like Neo, then it's not. Also, can't put a finger on where a generational leap is, but 3x the FLOPS using the measuring flavour of the month (once upon a time it was MIPS) is not happening anyways.

Sadly, I think this is the big thing to take away from all of this Neo Scorpio talk. Don't think hardware will ever be maxed out to the metal as it was previous gens.

It won't, but it's kind of an overrated thing since 3rd parties will never go that deep anyways. Few can be an ND or a Remedy.

Vega 11 is more powerful than polaris 10.

Microsoft is always willing to innovate and I think there is substance in this 6tf claim. The architecture it shares with PC will make it as easy as Xbox One games running at medium, with this running the games at high or ultra.

Wait, people are taking the 6tf figure seriously? What the hell?

Its not happening, be realistic here. They aren't going to put out an $800 (or more) console.

They are already sending kits to devs. I'd imagine the hardware is locked down. Maybe they can do some last minute overclocking like MS did with the XBO cpu

Why would they stop caring about sales numbers? PS4/Neo is still in the picture to be the market leader.

I'm almost certain it's happening. Shame really. It's just gonna be PSNEO soon vs NX. Looking forward to QB though on Scorpio.

Dev Kits don't mean shit these days. Look at how Sony fooled devs with the Orbis Dev Kit.

This Def. is a next gen system for MS. 4 years after the Xbox One launch... Will probably be 499 bucks again but this time they will have the best hardware and likely the best multiplatform games. So they can justify the price for the hardcore audience... No Kinect and TV BS this time.

The article doesn't say anything about having exclusive games so it still could, it just says it will play xboxone games but BC is a given for any MS console now

You are sadly a minority when it comes to console gamers... proof being the sea of silence whenever a consoles price is announced at anything above $400. I've never understood it personally, but its clearly a big factor for general consumers and a big reason sony is in the lead by such a huge amount in the first place.

MS would have to sell at a huge loss to gain ground back i think.

Yeah and...

Neo $399 vs Scorpio $599/699

MS will be stupid to do this again.

I don't know how much these things cost but we're talking 18 months from now. That will make a difference surely?

If they both go this road the question is which eco system you want to be lock into .
Cause every few years a new system will come out from both of them .
That might leap frog each other .

Behold the Xbox 6.

They're just going to start calling them all Xbox, no number or designation.

Inside the retail box is a console case. every year you have to buy new insides.

You have the Home Entertainment model, and the more deluxe Gaming model.

Man, you must be great at parties! Don't ruin the fun! I was completely in the troll twilight-zone until you pulled me back in...

And good luck with that.

So I guess I'm waiting till 2017 if I want an Xbox.

I was thinking about jumping in when they released a slim version. But Xbox 2 is so close.

On the one hand, the leap is not exactly impressive for their follow up console, on the other as an iteration it is quite big and not particularly economical. The PS4 is just doing better than the xbone because it is more powerful. It could have been the same power range and it would clearly still have outsold it...
