Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

I admit that I am torn on what to do. I have a big PS4 library and I really don't like having multiple consoles if I can avoid it but that performance delta could be tough to ignore. We will have to see how things pan out.

You'll be swapping consoles every two years if that's the case.

This Def. is a next gen system for MS. 4 years after the Xbox One launch... Will probably be 599 bucks again but this time they will have the best hardware and likely the best multiplatform games. So they can justify the price for the hardcore audience... No Kinect and TV BS this time.

Why would MS try a $599 console after the PS3?

Sounds like it's next gen rather than iterative console.
I definitely agree.

It would also make sense, given MS' new initiative to put all XBO games on Windows 10. If you're about to kill off one console to start another cycle, it makes sense to make all that software available for PCs, which are iterative by nature and will allow those games to 'evolve' as the hardware does.

Polygon posted some new details:

LOL

Every time. Polygon will never live that down.

Just going with a good gaming rig makes more sense than it ever has for me with all of this news. As I mentioned earlier, I might end up doing that before it's over.

I planned on buying an XB1 and PS4 at launch. After the horrible reveal of the XB1 I decided to just get the PS4. I shortly after got a new PC so I was barely playing my PS4. Then MS started putting their games on PC which made me realize that I'm probably never buying an Xbox again. Xbox games and multiplat games running better than consoles, the odd PS4 exclusive and a Nintendo machine. It's pretty fucking sweet. I also just got a Vive 3 weeks ago so I haven't even played many (any?) traditional games since then but that'll even out at some point.

Tl;Dr If you have the money for a decent PC it's basically a super XB1 already.

The absolute most they can sell it for is 500 and that's really high but I think do able in the sense that all the games will probably be on the X1, PC and whatever the Scorpio is called (assuming)

So basically a PS3 without the BR novelty and EU, Asia brand-loyalty with same-old Halo,Gears, Forza
Good luck

Yep, since getting my gaming PC my Xbone has turned into a Netflix/Casting machine and PS4 is only used for Exclusives. I'm just waiting to see what the hell NX is!

Should be interesting to watch all of the die hard Sony guys flip flop from "sales and power 4 life! hahaha" to "you xbots talking sales and power. I'm playing games. Can your Xbox run Uncharted 4" So many fucking frauds lmao

Were you only paying attention to youtube personalities like JaytechTV who get paid to be console warriors and fuel fires?

Or the actual trajectory of sales and where the people go as a basic fact? What your suggesting is the exact opposite of almost every Playstation unit outside of 4...which has been the only console where Sony had an actual lead in terms of hardware.

People went to PS for the exclusives and the ecosystem, in addition to their disinterest in the other brand names, and that has not changed.

Sorry, MS I'm already all in with Sony. You're not getting me back after the persistent hardware issues with the 360. Four 360s in just a few years? Nah. I'm out. I'm a nearly 40 year old man with pristine home theater conditions. Who knows how many units people went through in less than desirable circumstances.

XBox could be hamstrung by its ESRAM, Unless they do magic they need to keep putting the ESRAM in to maintain backwards compatibility. Which could get expensive, meaning less profits or a more expensive console. Dropping backwards compatibility isn't an option, since that would defeat the whole purpose of iterative hardware.

You're right. You probably just made up absurd statements of the "opposing" POV and exposed nonexistent hypocrisy because you have poor reading comprehension.

Wouldn't this make two of us, then? I liked the persecution complex more, it sounded more intellectual.

Anyhow, I divagated enough. I have a punishment from the eye of the tiger to obey.

Is HBM in Vega slower than the ESRAM?

I wonder though...If the main memory bandwidth was faster than the eSRAM anyways, maybe it could work? The latency would be higher, but GPUs aren't traditionally latency sensitive, and the CPU in the XBO isn't using the eSRAM.

GDDR5X could already be faster than the XBOs eSRAM, let alone HBM2.

Based on the technology they built to make 360 games backward compatible, I would imagine they could write an integration layer for RAM that would be able to play X1 games on a non-ESRAM console.

They're just going to start calling them all Xbox, no number or designation.

Inside the retail box is a console case. every year you have to buy new insides.

You have the Home Entertainment model, and the more deluxe Gaming model.

I think it will be called Xbox 4. For 4th generation and will be numbered from here on out. No need to have those names because it's about the platform.

Also...specs won't be finialized for a LONG time. So these specs right now are worth nothing really.

32mb of esram on 14nm will take < 1/3 the die space it did in the Xbox one. They can sacrifice some CUs and clock higher to offset the loss of ~40mm of die space.

The Xbox Scorpio flops are the biggest of them all?

I can see this becoming an arms race that will hurt wallets to keep up with.

Because power was the problem with the PS4? MS not the only one making an upgrade

The ps4 upgrade isn't being described in terms of power by someone who has a history of "secret sauce" agendas.

I'm not questioning the idea there is a more powerful Xbox coming. I'm questioning that it's power can already be measured in such a way that grabs headlines and the first person to break that story is the same person who was adamant the XBO was going to be more powerful than the ps4.

The same type of person, just like the NX rumour guy, who would lay the problems of the Xbox one/WiiU not selling as much as the PS4 as not being powerful enough.

I'm aware kotaku has also heard similar rumblings but I would still suggest that this is a click bait until proven otherwise.
