Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

Why would MS try a $599 console after the PS3?
Sry I meant 499 just like the Xbox One. They couldn't justify the One price because of the lackluster hardware compared to the PS4.

Sorry, MS I'm already all in with Sony. You're not getting me back after the persistent hardware issues with the 360. Four 360s in just a few years? Nah. I'm out. I'm a nearly 40 year old man with pristine home theater conditions. Who knows how many units people went through in less than desirable circumstances.

? They may not get you but they will get plenty others, so no need to be sorry.

They are already sending kits to devs. I'd imagine the hardware is locked down. Maybe they can do some last minute overclocking like MS did with the XBO cpu

I can't imagine many devs doing Xbox 2 exclusives. Will they just do the same games in 1080/60fps? At any rate, the hardware is just a more powerful PC. It was locked down 3 years ago.

It's coming out a year later. MS really fucked up on specs if it was less powerful.

Is it really a good idea to release a year later? Neo will clearly be a 1.5, but this will be a next xbone if true...PS5 will probably release a couple of years later and be massively more powerful. Then the next xbone...This is a rubbish model in my opinion. They need to make the GPUs upgradeable...

With 8GB RAM (5.5GB of RAM usable), 4K is going to be tough. They are going to need more than that. I have 24GB RAM in my PC and can hear it cracking at the seams (not literally... that would be cause to replace it). 4K textures are pretty massive.
Now maybe I'm confused but system ram has no impact on textures does it? Just GPU memory matters right?

he said he heard 5 to 6 tflops and the specs not lock down .
With this coming in Fall 2017 and Neo supposedly coming this year or early next year and being about 4.2TF I could totally see Xbox Two being in the range of 4.5 to 5TF. This difference in visuals and performance would be like PS4 and Xbox One but in favor of Xbox this time.
6 is hard to believe.

Schreier is corroborating it? Pack it up boys its a done deal essentially.

But he didn't put it in his article. He's essentially saying he heard the same thing. I mean it's looking legit but that could have been a number that was just tossed around. We'll see nonetheless.

Btw that one Vega rumor/the LinkedIn page mentioned 3 HW configurations to be served by one chip for backward compatibility or something like this. Makes sense now.

Lmao oh man what a day. It's been awfully quiet on Twitter as well . Not too many Sony fans trolling around with their sock accounts. Can't wait for e3 . Going to be one hell of a day with the megatons.

Three reasons for them to do this:

1) Be the 'best console for VR' - this could be a big deal, and it's achievable for them with Rift support.

2) Be the 'best place to play multiplats' - this is currently the PS4, and it's killing them, because we live in a world where exclusives just don't matter a damn any more. Wherever is the best place to play the multiplats is the place to be.

3) With their exclusives now going to PC as well, they need to be closer to PC-level power to be able to maintain the illusion that Xbox is as good a place to play those games. The XB1 as it stands could not do that.

It's a solid plan to fight the PS4's dominance. And being the stronger console did, imo, do a lot for the PS4.

The difference was that the PS4 was the stronger between two consoles released at virtually the same time. This Scorpio box is rumored to be coming out up to a year later than the Neo is rumored to be coming out. Not exactly the same situation.

It is almost closer the original XBOX plan. It released later than PS2 and was more powerful and that didn't seem to help them one bit, the die was already cast. I feel they need a full generation reset before you can just snatch market share like they did with the 360 (at least in NA and also released first). These incremental updates won't allow anyone to push the reset button so to speak and you would have to win market share over time. Depends on if we are counting this 2017 release as a new generation or an iteration. Also nothing stopping sony from roadmapping a 2018 8TFLOP Trinity console. Kind of interesting times ahead.

If Microsoft released a 4-5tf console a year after PS4K it would be dead out of the gates. They have to go 6tf+ (or similar specs to PS4K and release at same date) to stay relevant.

Ah kk. That said if Jason also heard this I'm much more inclined to believe this spec is indeed the actual target. If Polygon and Jason are hearing similar things thats quite a bit of evidence

If MS coming out a year later they better hit that 6 target .
Cause coming out a year later with 5tflops don't look nearly as good comapre to NEO.

So NX will be near a generation behind before it comes out. Oh well, so much for third parties.

Kind of sucks I bought a PS4. You know Western third parties will target Ps4.5/Xbone1.5 and the 4/1 versions will perform worse.

Oh shit, that makes things a lot more credible now. Doesn't it?

It does. It means at the least it's an internal target. Jason then goes on to say he only heard it from one source and that sources insist specs aren't final.

It's likely going to come down to alot of factors. Most likely price if they stick with this.

Buying a Neo and starting on a new PC. An upgraded XBone, which I enjoy but don't use all the time, doesn't sound especially intriguing.

It won't, but it's kind of an overrated thing since 3rd parties will never go that deep anyways. Few can be an ND or a Remedy.

I disagree. We have seen some beatiful (and stable) shits from the 3rd parties, like Battlefront from Dice, The Division from Massive, Doom from Id etc. etc.

We are still talking about closed architectures here, time is not forgettable when devs are trying to make the best out of their kits.

So I'm working on catching up with everything, is there any talk of the revision that is coming out this year supporting 4K video for UHD Blu-rays? That would make that in an instant buy for me this year and it ultimately becoming a bedroom box next year when the Scorpio drops.

XBox could be hamstrung by its ESRAM, Unless they do magic they need to keep putting the ESRAM in to maintain backwards compatibility. Which could get expensive, meaning less profits or a more expensive console. Dropping backwards compatibility isn't an option, since that would defeat the whole purpose of iterative hardware.

I think this is one of the big reasons behind why it's coming Fall 2017. MS is working hard to figure out how to emulate ESRAM for full BC.

So they're going to have a more budget friendly Xbox One Slim that is less powerful than PS4 and often has some graphical deficiencies in 3rd party games... and then tell people if they wait a year and a half they can get a console that leaps ahead of the PS4.

To be honest I don't see that changing much, people will just lump for the PS4 or Neo that they can get much sooner. They won't have to wait to have the best performing console right now for the next year or year and a half. And guaranteed we'll see the PS4.5.5 or PS5 announced not long before the Xbox 2 goes on sale, and people just hold off for that instead while enjoying Neo PS4 games that look pretty great anyway. :p

Anecdotally, I know several others who feel the same way. Mine trumps yours on the Internet. See how that works?

Lol, no need to feel offended man. I'm just saying you and the several others not gonna matter. Your post just seemed as if they are pleading to you to purchase this rumored console.

If you are not interested in their console and these rumors why are you here?

Yes the Xbox One Slim is 40% smaller and will have 4K support for video stuff.

Honestly, it wouldn't matter if it really ended up being 10TF. Releasing anything more than 3 months after Neo renders the whole thing a pointless exercise.
