Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

Are you an actual developer with PSVR SDK or are you another forum poster who doesn't know what the fuck he is talking about? Cause based on your posts, all signs point to the latter.

All this is more so a matter of opinion from my experience with it. Whether you agree or not is fine. What I'm saying obviously isn't gospel and it's more my views on how things may pan out.

Something I noticed I love how Polygon picks the lowest possible TFLOP for PS4K while the highest possible for Scorpio.

A year later is plenty of time to get higher Specs at the same launch price point. We'll see when it actually launches. The supposed PS4k is closer so we know more and have more reasonable guesses on what it is. The alleged XB1.5 is still another year or more away. We can compare when they actually launch but I doubt it'll have any impact on the fortunes of the two platforms.

same concern trolling xboners did back then when the power gap between xbone/ps4 came to light only now the sides are switched

"devs wont bother with optimizing for the obviously better hardware"

only the gap seems to be bigger this time around. the flipflopping is hilarious

I am noting this also. Potential hardware deltas are now discounted...

E3 and GAF is gonna get interesting.

Extra 2y before we could expect a nextgen.
2021. Otherwise next gen wouldn't have a purpose to exist. Don't know if i would be happy about it. Don't care about 4k vids/scenes. 4k games maybe in 5years

Most folks believe the PS4k won't make a huge difference and the XB1.5 will have the same fate. The XB1 is really under powered but at the top end base spec upgrades tend to be ignored. PSP, New 3DS, 32x, Atari machines after the 2600, TG DUO, etc... For business reasons it wasn't wise to aim for the upgraded machines or have any signficant features for it.

The PS4/XB1 have difference in frame rate and resolution but generally not features as they're both powerful enough.

Power only seemed to matter at the start (360>PS3 in practice, PS2 > DC, PS1 > Saturn, SNES > Genesis in some ways). As the install base got bigger then it was what your friends had and what had the games you wanted. As new more powerful entrants couldn't shake that.

It is funny, and i guess all we have currently is speculation, but everyone is speaking as if either specs are confirmed. All we have is rumored Tflops. Lets be reminding of the speculation for PS4 and XB1 before they were announced.

Let me guess Nintendo will release NX with less power than the Original XB1 and Sony and Microsoft will again have consoles that are vastly more powerful so NX still won't get 3rd party support?

Sure sounds like it... how i wish that Nintendo would release e tech beast, can i dream?

Some people need to give being a "Video Game fan" a try over this individual console fanboyism. It will likely increase your own shelf life.

How much would this cost? A PC of that power would cost $800+ wouldn't it?

It's not like Microsoft pays retail prices for parts though. And the PS4/XB1 GPUs were dated the day they released.

Other people can't have nice things too!

This, pretty much.

Microsoft's console was in need of a power bump, barely a few years into the generation and it's lack in power became apparent. I don't think a came of UC4 fidelity is possible on that box.

However this iteration proposal is not for me, I don't think. I really enjoyed the security consoles brought, the box would be supported for a set number of years. Yes this will be the same case, but I struggle seeing games being as well optimised for consoles going forward. Dev's have many SKUs to develop for.

In addition, the noise about Microsoft first party titles being available on PC also mutes my interest in the console. I feel burned on the Xone as it is in that regards, purchased it for Halo 5 and the promise of QB, ScaleBound, Gears 4, Forza. Had I not, I'd have been able to afford a new graphics card much sooner. I love the feel of the Xone, the controller and the interface but I can live without. I'm not upset more people get to play these fantastic games, that's great. I'd have liked for Msoft to have been clear with this on the off.

Absolutely. Things shall be clearer after E3 and beyond.

I'm just looking forward to rock solid 60fps Rocket League, no tearing and no jaggies on my PS4K. Maybe 60 fps Bloodborne. Can you imagine....

I just can't see Microsoft announcing this so far out. Surely it gives their competition a lot of time to work out a plan of attack, undercut them aggressively price etc, not that I think Sony need to if I'm honest, they have a huge lead.

And if the forwards compatible thing does happen surely Microsoft are starting from a pretty poor place? Sony have far more people aboard their ecosystem and likely to stick with whatever PS console comes next, not jump ship to start from scratch. 40 million PS4s versus, something just shy of 20 million XB1s?

It depends on the game, the dev, priorities and how much the dev wants to utilize the better hardware. Usually you get more fps and higher resolution, but also things like better distance, higher draw distance or better lod are also in.

Too many variables for this to be an even remotely answerable question.

OK. Humour me. All things being equal. Running at the same graphic settings and resolution (1080p) what kind of FPS bump are we typically talking?

Look at current situation with xbox one vs ps4.

So about 40% more powerful on paper?

Wasn't the PSNEO rumoured to be next year too? There's a few rumours floating about and I read it on Gaf yesterday.

So much for a big power difference...

But the previous reports all said 2016,didnt they? It would make sense to release alongside or close to PSVR. Guess E3 will have all the answers. If Sony does release it this year, they'll have a big advantage over MS for a full year when it comes to multiplatform games.

yea pretty sure i read that too this morning
It's going to be interesting seeing new games on these upgraded consoles. People like to brush off what these will actually achieve, acting like it's only a tiny bump but it's pretty much certain we're gonna get some fucking good looking games!

The order 1886
Uncharted 4
Quantum break

Were achieved on consoles. A GPU that is 4× stronger will bring us God. We will all be blinded by greatness.

Reports did but it looks like they may have delayed internally and pushed it to next year.

I agree with the massive advantage of releasing a year before Scorpio but Sony won't want to drop their marketing of "the most powerful console ever created". I feel like Sony genuinely believe this current power advantage has won over customers so they'll likely now improve Neo to match Scorpio.

Terrifying times.

If 6TF happens that's plenty for 4k 30fps.

Hmm yea, looking at some 390X benchmarks (around 6 Tflops) it could do 4k 30 with some optimization (turning some settings down). If I had to guess MS wants to go for more native 4k while Neo is gonna have more upscaled games.

The power argument is so silly.

Did that work for the PS3 guys?

Ps4 success story was due to higher power, lower price, and perfect messaging, vs lower power, higher price, and clusterf*ck messaging.

That's not the case here.

Will likely be more power and higher price vs slightly less power and lower price, with both companies being super careful with their messaging.

There won't be anything even close to the turnover rate if any at all imo. Tbh, there will probably be consumers that think Scorpio will have the original Xbone DRM issues from 2013.

Sony outfoxed Microsoft once before, I'm sure they can do it again with Neo vs Scorpio. They definitely have the upper hand in hardware design and the supply chain.

The PS3's issue was that it was difficult to develop for with their cell technology. That as well as getting a late start behind the 360. And the price IIRC.

This isn't a leak like the NEO definitely was, this has been a controlled reveal, theres no way polygon would be allowed to release this otherwise.

They've announced a new console is coming soon the only thing is when, the only way they can cause any worthwhile storm at E3 is by announcing it for this year.

Alright, how about the Playstation 1? Dreamcast? PS2 & OG Xbox & Gamecube? Wii?

Power does not matter in determining the market leader. Price & market perception does.

I'd imagine that both companies will use some of their generated profits from Xbox One and PS4 to subsidise some of the costs of creating a higher power console. Especially if they're expecting slow sales in the first year.

That way if they subsidise $100 and only 10 million are sold in the launch year the hardware will drop in price and they'll be earning money again by the time the general masses will adopt the higher Neo and Scorpio.

You gotta make money to spend money.

I've always predicted this would be the case with the PS5 Xbox 2.

there is no way this is releasing this year lol

according to polygon ms only last week had a briefing with devs about the console. way too late

Well......

Someone challenged Cory Barlog to match the fidelity of the following video for God of War 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjHiC0mt4Ts

Granted this was stated in October 2014.

No, I won't humor you. Because that is a useless comparison to make. That's not how computing works.
