Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

I have a 1440p monitor and for high-end games (like TW3) a 1080 seems just right for that resolution if you want all the bells and whistles.

I'm really curious about non-FE 1080 reviews now, I wonder if any of them will hold 2GHz with acceptable temperatures/noise.

I'd expect most of them should. Surely most companies won't be doing major design work on their coolers, they'll be reworking existing coolers.

If we were to take NeoGAF as a sample of PC gaming setups, one would assume everyone out there owns a 4K gaming display lol.

This thing is overkill for current games at 1440p ... why the hurry?

Why does it bother you so much, if people want to spend their money then let them.

Microcenter in the Twin Cities had 12 this morning, all gone. They started selling them last night and had a lot more fes from different aibs, but couldn't see stock counts last night.
Yeah my saint Louis mc had 20 listed in their site this morning. Now I can't find them. They all be gone. But I'm waiting for non reference anyways

I tried my best to build a pretty PC (my first one)

I think a FE will look great in there ;)

Looks fantastic. I just built my first PC a few months ago. Since then, my PS4 hasn't been turned on in 2 months and my Xbox One has been boxed up and is sitting in the back of my closet. Its just that much better of an experience for me.

I think the only thing that will get m back to a console anytime soon is a true expansion of Destiny or the release of Destiny II. Otherwise, I am surprised at how I've consolidated all of my gaming needs under one case. Its the very best purchase I've made since I bought my wife's wedding ring.

I think the MC in St. Louis had 35 cards. I think 21-22 people soaked that up. I saw EVGa and MSI there.

I still can't get the EVGA site to function.

Sure, but actually maintaining 2 GHz across all types of game loads (obviously not Furmark) still seems pretty challenging, given what the FE clocks down to in some games after 30 minutes.

I guess it's all a matter of what one considers "acceptable temperatures/noise" ;)

I think you misunderstood my comment.
I'm just sharing my thoughts on why people should calm down. In less than a month we'll have plenty of stock, reviews and releases from all manufacturers.

The Strix is looking really strong based on the clocks, but hopefully it stays cool and quiet (and whine-free). With any luck, there'll be some US pre-orders up soon for me to import into Australia. (The UK preorders come in over $1000AU, and imports at that price point attract a 10% customs fee, plus extra for processing.)

It's exciting that cards are apparently only a couple of weeks away, though we'll see how many actually arrive in that window.

Looks awesome! Pretty sure I have the same case (but black) and watercooling setup:

NZXT S340 case and Kraken X61 cooling?

Yay, my dark twin brother!

Destiny is my jam! Will keep an eye out for you once the next expansion hits.

So the first non-FE card is already listed with a price in Germany.

664.90 € for the EVGA 1080 with ACX 3.0 HSF. That's despite FE's all being in the 780 € range.

What do the "no non-FE's / no cheaper partner cards in 2016" people say now?

Overclockers have a reference card listed as a pre-order for £525, so pretty much in keeping with the original $599 MRP. So those predicting an early adopters tax were right, but it's worse than I predicted as they are literally revealing an identical card on the day of releasing one at £629, so in effect, people are paying £100 premium for a couple of weeks use. That's pretty shameful business and I'm amazed so many people are falling for it.

Same case I've got, I was really surprised when I brought it.
Btw 1070 still way too pricey imho, I think I'm gonna go for a used 970 or for Polaris... wish I could buy a 1080 but 800€ is way too much for me :(

Makes 3 of us. Setup is like 10 times quieter than my old fan solution. I've had zero complains so far other than I'm still using a damn 560ti. I've decided to wait for phase 2 cards to come out but ugh I'm tempted to check at my local microcenter this morning.

Am going to wait for reviews before I decide which one to get. Not going anywhere near a Founders Edition card though, am getting an AIB custom cooled card of some description. :oD

Damn it! It won't fit in my BitFenix Prodigy case. 6 inches high is the deal breaker. I guess I'm stuck with Founders Edition :(

I ordered one of each before the specs loaded, was planning to cancel whichever wouldn't fit in my air 240.

Turns out neither will :| Oh well, at least I can cancel and wait for one of the $610 stock models.

Weren't most of those benchmarks showing lower clocks not allowing the fan to go to 100%? I'm surprised more sites didn't allow the fan to go to 100% just to check whether that could maintain 2GHz - we might not use that practically but it would have helped us understand if it was doable.

Custom coolers should be way better - the TDP of the 1080 is lower than the 980ti isn't it? So there is little reason to doubt custom coolers can keep up with cooling the 1080. Of course the proof will be in the benchmarks.

Edit: 150W for the 1070, 180W for the 1080, 250W for the 980ti

We've played a few times together actually. Though I haven't been on in a good while. (PSN: is UF_C) All of us Americans sound alike.

Oh I know you!

Right!

Really can´t wait to get back in, but right now I´m all the way out.

Miss the community though.

This gif is so appropriate right now:

It's an excellent case & cooler combo. Temps are great, everything is silent, and the case looks amazing. That 1080 will feel right at home.

<3

My Kraken makes some grinding noises though. Apparently it can be fixed. Fingers crossed.

Fuck Yes!

Just pre-ordered the 1080 FTW on MemoryExpress in Canada!!!

It even went down in price so it's 884$ right now. 938$ total with shipping and taxes.

Yes, I don't think cooling will be an issue at all with some of these monsters.

However, tests with 100% or even watercooled FE's ran into the power limit quite quickly in some games, so the question for me is how custom PCBs will fare in that regard.

Prices here in Switzerland start from 850 chf, roughly 820/830 euros for the 1080 FE.

Of course no retailer has it in stock. No point in upgrading from a 980/980ti.

Preordered a strix, hopefully don't wait too long for it.

Will be selling my twin Frozr, 980ti, what sort of price should I be looking for?

Really bummed Amazon never went up, figure that was the only shot at getting same-day delivery and having the card for the long weekend. What bad timing to launch something like this

So, for the 1080 FTW, if I need my TV hooked up via HDMI, my monitor hooked up via whatever, and my HTC Vive hooked up via HDMI, what am I to do to make that work?
