Although Sam's stuff does not appear to be originating from the same leaks as Kotaku and Polygon. Those two got their info from devs that met with MS last week at a meeting to discuss Scorpio. Sams' info seems to stem from somewhere else since he had info on the two smaller devices that MS is going to announce at E3 and not much on Scorpio, though he had heard about that too.

That`s one important question. Just look what happened when they made games for Xbox One and Xbox 360. Games like Shadow of Mordor was horrible to play on the Xbox 360, but had good performance on Xbox One.

That`s one important question. Just look what happened when they made games for Xbox One and Xbox 360. Games like Shadow of Mordor was horrible to play on the Xbox 360, but had good performance on Xbox One.

I think games will play just as they were always going to on Xbone, and will play alot better on Scorpio

it all depends on the game. Something like Halo 5 with its engine changing resolution on the fly to keep a solid 60fps might just stay 1080 60fps on the new version of the xbox. From the looks of it games from here on out will have dynamic everything and just allow the hardware to push the engine to its limits.

A GTX 1070 which is just about to launch has 6.5 tflops in comparison. The Scorpio will be top of the line and incredibly powerful when it comes out.

AMD GPU has to be at least 8 teraflops to equal the 1070. Considering that Scorpio has to run games in UWP mode, you're not going get the to the metal optimization that Xb1 and Ps4 has. So it'll not be able to perform as well as the 1070.

You won't be able to install steam on these machines because of the flavor of OSes they run. It'll be walled off like iOS.

This has been stated many times but at least one person has already pointed out that it presumes that Polaris/Vega doesn't have improved architecture.

If they haven't then the equation of 8 AMD TF equals 6 Nvidia can be used.

Given that there may be some truth in this, I then wonder if MS really thinks of it as a new generation, after all the 360 launched 4 years after the OG Xbox if I remember correctly.

That is exactly what the XBS will be. Like steam-machines but xbox branded. Xbox-branded PCs essentially. It has been pretty clear that it's all about the unified ecosystem and not what HW(xbox branded PC or custom built PC) you play on for MS going forward. Games/platform as a service.

I believe that is what MS is hoping for, correct. To try and create a unified, healthy ecosystem. HOW they execute this going forward will make or break the xbox division.

Yeah, I kind of hope Neo gets delayed or Scorpio gets moved up. Xbox is my natural home for online shooters, but as a buy-every-system kind of guy there's no way I can justify XB1 versions of these games vs Neo with that power gap. It's bad enough with PS4 already.

I think the question we should be asking is this: going forward, what will "releasing a game on Xbox" actually mean? Until now it meant that a game would be released on a specific piece of hardware. From now on it might mean releasing a game on a specific service (Xbox Live) regardless of hardware. I believe it's time to start thinking of the Xbox as a software platform that will run on various hardware like Xbox One, Scorpio and Windows 10 PCs.

Well yeah, multiplate games will still have to work with the ps4 going probably through 2018/19. And that's IF it's not required to work with the one like the neo is.

That software platform already has a name - it's called UWP. XBox will most likely be used to market UWP games moving forward, but that would still make any MS-made "Xbox" box not a PC (as in - you would not get access to the rest of PC library on it).

Depends on the success of the Neo which is not set in stone. MS might be betting on the Neo not being widely adopted as "just an improved PS4"and then putting out a console that differentiates itself more.

Still, a whole year is very long even if that's their plan.

I think if they're going to get desperate they should just release an absolute beast mode bundle for the holidays at $299/ $250 on BF. Include it of first party titles since it won't cost them as much and they probably aren't going to sell anyways judging by how their other exclusives have sold.

I dunno, maybe it's probably why I'm not head of Xbox/MS but I'd just bundle a shit load of games at the same price as PS4. Sea of Thieves, Recore, MCC, Gears UE, Rare Replay, hell toss in Sunset Overdrive too if it helps get sequel. It's not like any of those games are selling any more

I know it's not going to happen but I'm betting when you exclude one that will be in a regular bundle anyways, those games cost MS less money than $50 in the grand scheme of things and have a bigger impact than a $50 price drop. Plus it might mean we actually get sequels for those games.

Considering it is coming with a bunch of restrictions to make sure devs can't develop games exclusively for it, I don't see it doing too much besides filling in the $399 price point for Sony. It'll be just as hard of a sell as the new Xbox due to it being a system that is meant to exist next to the standard PS4. The Xbox Scorpio at this point is looking to offer games exclusively on it in the rumor that it'll support the Rift, so that's a thing. Also, we don't quite know what the Xbox One slim will have besides it being smaller with 4K video support. Should be interesting.

I see this time and time again. It's right that Ubisoft and EA have their stores...but there are way more 3rd parties than just them and don't have their own stores and use Steam (if on PC at all). It's up to MS to get that UWP going so that those 3rd parties get on PC as well as Xbox and vice versa. The potential amount of 3rd party games that can be on Xbox/WS is much greater than just having a game on Xbox or just on WS. Also depends on when MS makes the kb/m work with Xbox. You "could" end up with games that are usually PC only, on Xbox as well.

Yes, but could they have performed better if they wasn't released on Xbox 360? Dying Light was originally planned for old generation, but the developers had to skip it in order to achieve better performance on new generation consoles.
