Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

Yes, but could they have performed better if they wasn't released on Xbox 360? Dying Light was originally planned for old generation, but the developers had to skip it in order to achieve better performance on new generation consoles.
Yes. A good example of it is destiny. That game made a shit load of concessions to be on pair with both last gen and this one.

AMD GPU has to be at least 8 teraflops to equal the 1070. Considering that Scorpio has to run games in UWP mode, you're not going get the to the metal optimization that Xb1 and Ps4 has. So it'll not be able to perform as well as the 1070.

Old AMD flops sure. Polaris is supposed to increase IPC dramatically, which is why a 6 TF Polaris 10 is supposed to be equal to a 8+ TF fury X

I only think XBO will do $199 if things start to get desparate. It definitely won't happen right away, but if XBO sales start to tank I can see them having a base console at $199 and Gears 4 bundle at $249 for Black Friday.

I don't think $199 is desperate at all. A $199 all digital, Polaris 11 slim that has about 1.5 x PS4 performance is their path to reclaiming the US.

Didn't they say something before unveiling Xbox One that it will be powerful that PS4?

I can't remember correctly...

They said the opposite actually.

"We purposefully did not target the highest-end graphics,” GM of silicon development Greg Williams told Engadget, as spotted by CVG. “We targeted more as a broad entertainment play and did it in an intelligent way.

"The people who are here have clearly done them before and we've done them within Microsoft before. But this is one of the more strategic plays and in terms of the overall product, that is a clear differentiator, and the [hardware IP] that we've developed here is truly unique."

That pretty much sums up everything that was/is wrong with the Xbox One. Hopefully they learned from it and the rumours that the Scorpio is a beastly bit of hardware are true.

He didn't make anything up, there were articles on Polygon that x1 would be more powerful then PS4, google is your friend. Arthur Gies was even tweeting it.

The thing that people are revising history about is that until the 8 GB GDDR5 bombshell, it was virtually universally assumed that XB1 was going to be more powerful. If Sony hadn't got lucky with the memory, then XB1 would have been the superior machine.

You know what they say about assumptions...people keep underestimating playstation despite it being the dominant force in home consoles 3 out of 4 generations. Sony know what they are doing.

you obviously weren't around back in 2012 then. plus MS had blown away Sony on hardware two generations running so ...

Huh? The xbox first launched 1.5 years later then Ps2 and ps3 was more powerful then 360. How did 360 "Blow away" ps3 in hardware?

It's going to be okay man

ok, there is no need for condescension, I never said it would not be

People keep repeating the same thing too

People repeat things when they are true.

LOL, the 360 was a much much better machine. The cell was awesome at certain tasks but overall the PS3 was substantially inferior to the 360 despite launching later
You said the 360 "blew away" ps3. In pure power ps3 was more powerful , that's a technical fact, anything else is spin.

what are you yammering about. In general CPU task the 360 had a 3 to 1 advantage. Unified memory, EDRAM, and about 3 generations more advanced GPU.

So, the fact that the OG Xbox released a year and a half after the PS2 is your argument...

But then you list ps3 as more powerful then the 360 without blinking an eye...

I guess forgetting that the ps3 released a year after the Xbox 360?

Bit of a double standard, no?

Nah, it's an AMD, I would say 970-980 is about right, not 980ti or 1070 level.

PS4 and Xbox One are both based on AMD APUs that are commonly found in Laptops, that is likely to be the same situation again.

If that is the same again, then the Best case scenario is that you'll get a top of the range Laptop GPU.

The best one that AMD make right now is the AMD Radeon R9 M485X
That has 2.9TF, so the 6TF rumor does seem a little overkill

LOL pure nonsense...in pure power the ps3 was more powerful then 360, every tech analysis shows this. 3 generations better GPU? LOL what are you talking about? Do you know what GPU generations are? They were the same gen GPU, ps4's was just a little less powerful, but Cell if used correctly could offload GPU tasks, its why Uncharted, GOW were the best looking console games.

This is incorrect.

That is silly. I would consider the 6 TF the LOW end of scorpio possibilities. That is if they want to launch at $399, then it will be 4 core zen and 36CU Polaris 10. If they want to go for the jugular then take a minor loss at launch 8 core zen and 10TF vega at $499.

I think people are WAY overestimating the cost of the SOC. MS isn't buying completed chips. They own the hardware so they are buying wafers, not chips. The 6 TF SOC will be less $100 assuming even modest yields.

I keep getting the feeling that this ill get pushed out to summer 2018 and will just be the next Xbox iteration, not like what Sony is doing.

3 power PC cores to 1. Unified shaders weren't available in Nvidia chips until about 3 generations later than the one in the PS3.
