Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

As an AMD owner, what is the best, most user friendly method to wipe all my drivers to switch to Nvidia? Which programs should I use?
For the love of god, don't use their own "Clean Uninstaller" or whatever it was called.
It wrecked all of my USB ports because it literally uninstalled everything that could potentially have been AMD-related.

I think DDU is recommended.

I'm just going to do a clean install of Windows when my 1080 arrives.

I am an AMD owner as well... are these things really necessary when switching GPU brands? I had no idea.

No. I Uninstalleed all amd related stuff and installed nvidia card and new drivers, no problems. Have done this multiple occasions. Don't know what people are talking about.

What do the 2 bios do on the FTW?I thought you only needed one?

Let's you have multiple BIOS, so you can have the stock and a custom one.

Also good in case you brick a bios, you have another one so you can fix the bricked bios. Otherwise you would have to run through your integrated graphics to reflash the bricked bios. Not a huge deal, but more convenient to have 2 bioses.

And especially a big deal if you have a cpu with no integrated graphics.

people are going nuts how this is only a 1080 and blowing 980ti reference out of the water. But I bought mine msi gaming 980 ti in October for 859, and the reference 1080 is 920 bucks. So I don't really see what is so amazing about this card, yes it performs well, but it also costs a fuck ton for a non ti. It is not worth the upgrade for me imo, maybe next generation.

You can still throw in an old video card temporarily if you really trash a BIOS and need to reflash. The days of having to try and reflash blind are thankfully long past.

Expecting a substantial upgrade coming from an x80ti or Titan card and going to a normal x80 series card is just not that realistic.

I honestly don't know what a person who just dropped $859 only 8 months ago for a top-of-the-line card would be looking to upgrade right now anyway.

Most people "going nuts" about the performance are looking to upgrade from cards that are much weaker than a 980ti and are, as such, happy they didn't buy the 980ti when it came out since waiting 8 months has brought the opportunity to get a stronger and less-power hungry card with a more modern architecture for a relatively similar price point.

PCCaseGear in Australia have the founders edition for $1179 AUD.

Just need to sell my 980ti and I'm all over it. I was expecting $1350 AUD.

Yup, very much this ^^^

I currently have a 2GB 4870 in my VR machine (and the 4870 is imo the best card that AMD have ever released, it still punches above its weight all these years later) but since Elite Dangerous Horizons requires a DX11 card for planet surface goodness I've been using the iGPU in my Skylake 6700K.

I'll probably suffer from severe culture shock when I get my 1080 lmfao

To be fair to the Intel HD 530 in the 6700K it does give me over 30fps on planet surfaces driving around, at 720p with high quality textures and shadows albeit with AA turned off.

Oh wait, so normally it's within the 14 day window and it's only 90 days if you bought into the warranty? Or is it another 90 days on top of another 90 days? I bought my videocard on February 26th. No seriously. I did.

Register within 14 days to get step up, allowing 90 days. Was not aware you could extend step up with extended warranty.

Edit, as far as I can tell with a quick search you cannot extend step up at all.

Didn't know people still flashed gpu bios, I remember people doing it some years ago.

Huh... Just got an email from Memory Express from where I ordered my 1080FTW...

The fuck? First time I see that with a site...

Hello,

Thanks for your online order. We just need to complete one more step for verification purposes before we can ship out your order. Would you be able to provide a utility bill (or phone bill) and government ID with your name and address on it? The name and address must match with what you have submitted to us for your order for security purposes. As soon as we receive these documents we will verify the information so that we can ship your order out.

Most credit card verifications are done automatically online by our payment gateway. We understand, however, that providing maximum protection to our valued customers is essential. Thus, our verification department may ask our customers for additional information such as government issued ID, etc. to ensure that we are dealing with the rightful cardholder. This process is not required for every transaction and is in place to minimize the possibility of unauthorized usage of your credit card.

Thank you for your assistance.

Frys in the US did something similar to me, but instead of sending proof I just basically got interrogated on the phone. I wound up canceling it anyways, felt good.

Yeah, everything points to it being legit. The site has a very good reputation, the email looks legit and my order status on the website went from "In Progress" to "Waiting for Customer".

It still feels weird to send that stuff online but whatever. I'll use that occasion to ask them for a release date lol.

Wait for non-ref cards and import one from Amazon: you'd be saving ~$200 or more. If you're concerned about warranty, EVGA's cards have a global warranty policy. I'd originally settled on an EVGA FTW (USD$680), but I'm going to opt for a regular ASUS Strix, stock permitting, as it's USD$60 cheaper and uses the same cooler as the overclocked flavour.

Hey guys, I have a dummy question for people smarter than I. I just preordered a FTW 1080 card, is there any reason it wouldn't be compatible with my motherboard? I know my case can fit it and all that, I just don't want to be surprised by some form of incompatibility I didn't know about.

Thanks for the help guys!

I ran it through PCPartPicker, and their compatibility checker said it's compatible. I, however, have the less fun outcome and need to upgrade just about everything in my 2012 build.

Same boat, I built my new PC last Friday, skylake CPU meant I had to change everything, only kept the case and PSU from the old one.

Does that AUD 1199 include tax etc.? Iirc it does but is it the final price you end up paying? Because it's not that high, not compared to prices anywhere outside of US. Some example prices converted to Australian dollars using whatever exchange rate google has:

Australia AUD 1199
Europe AUD 1220
UK AUD 1259
Sweden AUD 1283
India AUD 1313
United States AUD 972

There are some other countries/regions where it's cheaper like UAE, but AUD 1199 is pretty much right in the middle when it comes to pricing. Source for launch prices:
https://www.vrfocus.com/2016/05/nvidia-reveal-international-pricing-for-geforce-gtx-1080-founders-edition/

The worldwide price compared to the US price seems alot higher. I guess US people are just lucky.

Wow really? Every time I tried Amazon in the past it seemed that it added up to the same! I'll have to check this out.

This, the Asus Strix OC will be under $1000 with 2-5 day delivery to aud, if the card is in fact priced at $639

The regular asus strix with the same cooler but no factory overclock will be $619 + no more than US$30 to ship (10 days max) I expect so it'll be around $900 given today's exchange rate, way better than the $1200 so far at Aussie retailers.

Anything under a grand I'll gladly accept at this point lol. I'll end up paying less for this then I did my 980TI, and that's not including the money I'll get from selling that on.

Non-priority shipping on GPUs is comparable to national postage, even: ~$14.50 for standard (approx. 9-12 days) or ~$19 for expedited (approx. 7-11 days).
