Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Need advice, since this is the first time i'm changing my GFX card without it being a new build I want to know what I need to do software wise.

Do I need/have to uninstall my 670 drivers? if I do, how? i'm on win 10
or can I just install the 1080 and use its driver disc and just go? I do have geforce experience installed btw.

Also when are the first drivers for the 1080s expected?

Drivers supporting the 1080 are already out. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
I don't think you need to uninstall them but it can never hurt to perform a clean driver install after you put the card in.

Good stuff. Any idea why the 1080 seems to require something around 10% less VRAM with the same settings?

Different memory controller, 50% more L2 per channel, or maybe it's just how games are treating 8GB cards, who knows. The difference is small enough to not think about it.

So is he saying that without any overclock, the Strix could reach 2.1 with just power adjustments?

Looks like it but I'd say that it'll probably go down in time with temperature rising.
Do those have FastSync by the way?

Neat, time to install then.

You'd think the release notes would mention something like that!

They don't officially but you can try the implementation via Inspector as there's a new option in Vsync setting. Available on 368.22 as well, no need for 1080 specific drivers.

It appears as "fast" under vsync on the control panel. At least for the 1080, maybe not there yet for maxwell cards dunno. As a small note, boosting to 2050mhz is not enough for Witcher 3 Hairworks 60fps 1440p in kaer morhen :(

DudeRandom84 has been posting 1080 vs 980Ti videos whole day:
- Crysis 3
- Quantum Break
- GTA V
- The Witcher 3

My 980 Ti core boosts to 1316 MHz, not far off those results, so an OC'd 1080 would be an okay upgrade for my 1440p gaming. Especially since I should be able to cover some of the price by selling the Ti.

Ok at best, here is my FS Extreme scores (ti OCed and 1080 OCed):

1080: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8616151

Titan X just for reference: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/5183017

In gaming is not a game changing experience so far.

Cheers for those. Do you have any FPS comparisons at these clocks?

Sorry, i think i didnt fully undertstand your question.

If you are asking if i have any benchmarks that are not 3dmark im sorry but i only have those (and because 3dmark automatically saves every run).

Yeah, that's what I was asking. All good man. Cheers for the info :)

Did anyone announce release dates for non FE cards yet? I thought they were supposed to announce dates on Friday, but Ive heard nothing so far.

Tons have release dates. ASUS Rog Strix 1080 is June 4th. Seems the EVGA cards are June 10th. Doesn't mean that they have any stock though. May get lucky at a microcenter or Frys.

Any idea when the cards will be shipped?

With question that vague, the only answer is first cards were sold and shipped Friday 27th, thousands of them. More cards will arrive to stock every week.

Which cards, which stores, at what price, that all varies from card to card, region to region.

I saw June 4th for the Strix, but it was from a blog and not from Asus itself. So it's official then?

They also have a quick boost stability comparison there:

Nice. Does it use more than one 8 pin?

Yes it has more than one 8 pin. Here is the sheet again

So what's the better choice? Asus Strix or EVGA FTW? Does Asus even have a store like EVGA or will it just go on sale on Amazon?

I'm not too knowledgeable on GPUs but I'm assuming the FTW would have more over clock potential since it uses two 8 pin connections while the strix uses an 8 and 6 pin connection?

Only if you think you need 375W into gpu which started at 180 instead of merely 300W.

In other words quality of cooling and vrm will be lot more important which we have no way to judge now.

If I had to guess I'd choose EVGA because it will have 2 bioses and their support is legendary (well you could say Asus support is also legendary but in the different way :D )

So, after reading this,

http://forum.hwbot.org/showthread.php?t=157414&page=3

Does it really even matter what card I pick up? Seems like none of them overclock past a certain point anyway. Not even as far as the 980ti.

I'm new to all of this but it's seeming to me that it would be ok to pick up whatever card that doesn't throttle like the founders edition and OC it on air as far as it will go? Is water or something like a hybrid really needed for anything other than noise control?

Go easy on me.

I think I'll wait for the Strix for the fan headers. I think that's a great idea to help exhaust all the hot air those coolers dump into the case.

I think they will overclock more or less the same depending on the "luck" of getting an higher binned chip, maybe a few mhz higher but nothing mindblowing. The difference will be the noise\thermals of each card.

Reading that thread it seems that 980TI will still be the king in LN2.

Edit: Reading the kinpin forum it seems that the 8pin is not a limiting factor when overclocking the 1080.

Edit2: 2300-2400mhz on LN2 using an EPOWER board.

Yep but the median income in Australia is higher than in the us, isn't it?

Video cards have generally been one price in all countries plus each country's tax and retail margin and any shipping deliveries. The 1080 price of AU$1199 seems a little high for me.

Jeez, that's expensive. Even my 980 Ti and Corsair H55 didn't cost anywhere near that much. Now I'm thinking I probably won't buy a 1080 Ti on launch because of insane pricing like that.

Christ on a fucking bike, these UK prices are taking the piss a fair bit. We always get shafted over here for these sort of things. :o(

Yeah, OCUK are pricing a hell of a lot better than Scan! Wow they are really taking the piss.

Yup, I'm REALLY surprised that Scan are still in business tbh. They ALWAYS have stuff WAAAAAY overpriced. They have the odd bargain here and there every now and then but for the most part they usually more expensive than other online retailers.

Does that AUD 1199 include tax etc.? Iirc it does but is it the final price you end up paying? Because it's not that high, not compared to prices anywhere outside of US. Some example prices converted to Australian dollars using whatever exchange rate google has:

Australia AUD 1199
Europe AUD 1220
UK AUD 1259
Sweden AUD 1283
India AUD 1313
United States AUD 972

There are some other countries/regions where it's cheaper like UAE, but AUD 1199 is pretty much right in the middle when it comes to pricing. Source for launch prices:
