Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

is there a consensus best card yet?

I have a 980ti g1 gigbyte sli setup, that'd like to reduce to one card

You'll see decreased performance in many situations. You should wait for the next Titan or 1080ti.

lol you and me both. My impatient will probably have me trying to get the Strix OC, but I'd rather have this. Hopefully they ship soon! The 6700k iGPU is not doing the job.

haha, i'm on a 2700k iGPU. Too lazy to move my other comp's 6850 and 6950 over. I'll patiently wait for a Strix, MSI Gaming Z or even a Gigabyte.

Man, I can't believe there aren't more reviews up for the custom cards. Seen a preview for the EVGA from JayzTwoCents, and Computerbase' review of the Strix, nothing else?

Looks like Amazon already removed the FTW preorder option. Glad I got my order in.

* ACX is still up with pics added.

Makes me worried they will cancel the orders that were placed for the FTW...

Oh well, I'll be happy with a normal SC edition if that happens. The picture being added makes it feel more official!

Do they do that very often? I thought usually honored what the put on their site.

Getting kind of lost with all the different variants. Is the EVGA Hybrid the one that includes the separate radiator? Are there any other water cooled variants?

Heck, even another generation. I'm going from 980 SLI and I think I'll see a bit of decreased performance in some situations, though I think it will be minor. Of course it'll be a solid upgrade when SLI isn't supported.

Can't say that for 980ti SLI.

Yeah, if I had gone with a 980 Ti (much less two in SLI), I would definitely be skipping this generation of cards (at least until the 1080ti, if it turns out to be a huge gargantuan leap forward).

Then again, I'm playing at 1080p 144hz, so I'm not hurting for performance gains as much the 4k folks out there.

Just to add to this, that motherboard requires one 8-pin connector, so your PSU needs a total of three 8-pin connectors to also run the 1080 FTW or Classified. You'll have to check your PSU to see how many you have, but like I said, you can also use adapters.

The 6+2 pin connectors should be fine for the card though right?

I'm running 3440x1440, so about 5mil pixels vs the 8 mil pxiels for 4k, so any extra power helps.

I'm okay with not running max ultra settings for the time being. I think i'll wait for the 1080ti, but I'll be really hesitant on running SLI. I do not regret my 980ti sli setup, but money could be better spent elsewhere

Yeah I'm gonna need a new PSU for the FTW edition. I currently have a silverstone 450watt sfx PSU but I'm gonna move to a corsair 600watt.

Thanks for the info Ocelott!
So I just preordered the FTW without really knowing the specs to base clock/boost. I want to maximize performance out of the box with one of these 1080 cards, so Founders Edition won't do if I can get more performance with a custom PCB.

EVGA and Amazon don't have the specs for the FTW version - how does it stack to Founders (or better yet, the one I had my eye on, the ASUS Strix)?

(and better yet, can I cancel my Amazon preorder if I deem it isn't meeting my "max" specs)?

FTW has a Custon PCB and clocked higher but we don't know the exact clock speeds for it yet as EVGA hasn't listed them. It will be comparable to the strix. I like EVGA because their Customer service is sooo good.

Yeah, I kind of figured it was a safe bet. My current card is an EVGA 670 FTW card, which has held up surprisingly well these past few years. I initially purchased it out of spite, being left out of the Borderlands 2 physics fun with my AMD 7950 card. Yay GPU wars! /grumble.

Should I pre-order a FTW or wait for classified? The latter has 8+8+6 power pins instead of dual 8 that the FTW uses. I will overclock but I doubt I will touch the bios or bump the fan speed more than 75%.

Should I wait for the classified or kingpin or whatever version?

For your use case? No.

(More than 8+8 pin is completely silly anway. 8+8+PCIe can supply 375 Watts. You're not going to need more than that unless you are cooling with LN2)

If you're not going to do any heavy overclocking, the FTW should be fine. Though we won't know for sure how these cards truly vary until full reviews come out.

I convinced myself that I don't need this card at all. Here I am getting swept up in the hype and thinking of selling my 980ti and getting the 1080 FTW.

Thanks. I ordered one--note that I already have a 780 FTW. I kinda got stuck at 1100mhz on that card; I can go higher but it isn't game-stable. A lot of games hate overclocking actually e.g Warframe and Dark souls 3.

I am aiming for a normal overclock using stock voltage, 80c max temp and reasonable fan speed. I know that the classified has higher OC potential, but I doubt it will make a practical difference; it is just the urge to get a better card LOL.

Do you guys want to get pissed? I have a 1080p monitor.

There are 700 watt and 750 watt Platinum SFX-L PSUs from Silverstone and Lian-Li respectively.

I would recommend looking into them if you can accommodate an SFX-L.
Nah I don't think I can, have an ft03 mini.

Joke post?
850W for a single GPU system?
You don´t need more then a 500W PSU for a single GPU system.

It's fucking stupid. I think people are still traumatized from the time when PSUs had very little oversight on quality and basically most brands were shit so you had to buy 200-300w over the required size. Nowdays, as long as you get it from a reliable brand and rated, you're fine.

Not only that, but component TDP has greatly decreased.

I always recommend this calculator: http://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

I'd take vendor claims of clock speeds with a grain of salt until EVGA publishes them. It doesn't really make sense to have FTW and reference PCB + ACX3 to have exactly the same boost clock.

It doesn't, plus they haven't added any info for the other cards, so they must have got it from somewhere.

Just put down an order for the Evga gaming on Amazon, According to them they do ship this internationally so for me it's $925 Aud compared to the cheapest FE card here that's $1179 not including shipping. No prices in Aus for the custom cards yet.

We'll wait and see if they do actually ship this to Australia though lol.

I remember the days of Deer-branded power supplies in Dell systems

/Shudder
