Nintendo @ E3 - No Direct, Just Zelda Treehouse Stream

there's no way they don't put out a Direct before E3. whether that leak is real or not, who knows. I buy that pic, or at least that thats extremely similar to what's actulally gonna be in the Direct.

Earthbound 2 get out of my face with this shit lol
What's wrong with that? Emily said Mother 3 is coming. We got Earthbound for VC two years ago. We got Earthbound Beginnings last year so it makes sense to finally get Mother 3 this year. Plus, if E3 is only Zelda then they'd have to announce Mother 3 somewhere and in a Nintendo Direct before E3 makes a lot of sense.

They did a mini direct prior to E3 last year. I want to see Paper Mario Color Splash and if the Mario Party 11 is real then I'm hoping it goes back to its roots.

I thought it meant a sequel to earthbound not a port

PLEASE ITOI

I'm honestly not at all interested with Colour Splash, given that everything that we've seen of it is basically screaming 'Sticker Star: Part Deluxe', which is something that's rubbin' me the wrong way. I'll just stick to playing the N64 original and 'The Thousand-Year Door' for my Mario RPG fix.

As for Mario Party 11, would anyone be interested in the game? In general? Honest question here.

I'll be down with obtaining a legitimate way to play Mother 3, as I've been avoiding spoilers about that games plot. Same goes with getting shinobi froggy in Pokken Tournament, as Greninja is my favourite water starter in the Pokemon series.

I'm OK with Nintendo not having a press conference.

I'm OK with Nintendo not having a Direct.

I'm OK with Nintendo keeping NX a secret.

I'm OK with Nintendo not making new announcements.

But I'm NOT OK with Nintendo bringing only one game to E3.

What are we supposed to discuss in the 3-4 days of E3? Zelda, Zelda, Zelda, Zelda, Zelda? Do you guys realize that some Nintendrones don't really care that much (or at all) about Zelda?

They have other games to demo on the show floor. So demo then!

Sure, they have other games. Pokemon is a big ticket, but they don't typically do much with Pokemon at E3. They don't need to. It just sells.

Beyond that... it's pretty bare. Especially for Wii U. Color Splash, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, and what... Mario Party maybe? I know there is a title or two I am forgetting, but they aren't exactly... things people at E3 are going to care about.

Nintendo literally has no other games to show that drive excitement, and since E3 is a media event they need games media actually care to cover. The only way they could have more logically is if they had the NX unveiled so all the games that are clearly being held for it could be shown. Surprised we're getting this much Zelda to be honest. This is the Wii U version. Surely they want people to buy the NX version over it, right?

This is almost certainly the case. Trev's leak alone is enough evidence that E3 was likely to be the plan originally, as the NX (console, handheld, both, whatever) was intended to be released in November 2016 along with Zelda. Everything else that he included in his leak was 100% spot on. The leak was in late February, so sometime within 2 months they made the call to move everything around.

The real question is why. But I'm definitely not upset about it anymore. We'll get the NX reveal in September or so and love it. (hopefully)

I know this may seem old hat, but Kimishima already told us why. NX isn't holiday because the library of games isnt' fully there yet, and they feel a few extra months will do the system really good to eliminate any first year game droughts. Now, you can still wonder why this means no E3, but if the games aren't quite there yet, you may not even want to show them. What if Zelda NX was the ONLY title truly read to be shown for the system with everyone else a few months out? No point unveiling it with a last gen "port".

Nintendo is going to save the unveiling to be when they can really show off the system out the gate. With Wii U, when they first unveiled it, had nothing but a few tech demos and the promise of unprecedented support from EA. They need more than some tech demos (which it will surely have). They need full games ready to go.

That's the same floor space Nintendo has had for almost ten years. It has nothing to do with whether they planned to reveal the NX or not.

I was under the impression one of the three sections was added once they started doing the Treehouse live stuff. If that's the case, it's only been for what, the last 3 E3's?

they're using all this floor space for just ..Zelda.

This screams like this was a last minute call. During january time they probably had planned out NX reveal etc for E3 i mean why else get all that floor space, da fuck.

what if nintendo got confirmation of competitors revealing their new hardware this year too and said fuck it, we'll let them battle it out this E3, we'll reveal it a bit later so NX gets all the attention when revealed

Anyone remember E3 2005? They decked out the place for Twilight Princess. I expect something similar/greater this year.

You're making the assumption (that I have made in the past) that the reason we're seeing no new games is that they've all been moved to NX development. I agree that this is probably the reason but a lot of people here don't follow Nintendo closely enough to see that. The silence is really getting frustrating at this point for a lot of people (myself included) and it would probably be wise of Nintendo to at least take the opportunity at E3 to make sure people are aware that new games will be coming soon.

Maybe they could take about 2-3 minutes after the Zelda U trailer to show a small clip of Zelda NX and then announce the date of their NX reveal event, noting that brand new games will also be shown. That would do a lot to alleviate concerns as well as hype people up for that event. Nintendo has done this before where they say "no X at this event!" and then briefly discussed it, without focusing too much on it.

Or maybe I'm being too hopeful.

I'm definitely interested in Paper Mario. I love the whole series and I liked Sticker Star. The battle system sucked, but Color Splash looks great and I want to see more.

Didn't Mario Party 10 sell 1 million copies? I can't remember if it did exactly, but if it did then plenty of people are interested in it. If it has online to where I can play a regular board game without that dumb car like the N64 Mario Party games, then I'd be ecstatic.

Here's the thing, people who don't follow Nintendo closely enough to realize games are all pushed to NX so it doesn't have a bad first and second year are likely not mad at Nintendo is the first place, because they don't really care that much about it. Sure, maybe they see "oh, only Zelda, no NX" news and they laugh away as they sit back and enjoy their other systems, but that's just console war bs.

You're frustrated - as are others - but the ones that are ARE the people that follow them closely. Ones that don't have nothing to be frustrated over. They don't ultimately care that much about Nintendo to get frustrated. They are the ones that should, rightly, understand that the Wii U is not a commercial success and they need all their titles ready to go for NX in less than a year. What there is a hard time selling some of these people on is the idea the NX wasn't ready for E3, or the games weren't ready to be shown at E3. That's troubling signs to some and justifiably so.

It's frustrating, but understandable at the same time. I am sure once the NX is revealed, interviews will give us the real insight for why they weren't at E3 with it. Its not something they are going to talk about now.

I agree with most of that but I do think there are plenty of people in this thread who believe the NX launch will look like Wii U launch 2.0. It's not just people following Nintendo closely who are frustrated, it's also plenty of people on Gaf who just see headlines and shake their heads thinking, "ugh, another piece of bad news for Nintendo, their future looks bleak" simply because nothing official has been revealed. People who have posted in this thread for instance.

I really don't think it could hurt them in any way to announce the NX event (assuming they have a date for it) and simply state that brand new next-gen games will be shown at that event. All it might do is slow down the already non-existant Wii U sales, which really shouldn't be any concern for Nintendo at this point.

I would rather them just say silent at this point and take the negative pr and reveal/launch when they are 100% ready. If your in the middle of the storm you may as well ride it out.

I'd love to have a good Mario Party. It may be impossible to get by now, but I haven't given up hope. A best off all the previous Mini-Games in HD with a method to play it the old way - not in a 4player cart.

Having just played Mario Party 2 with some friends, I would probably get the new one... IF it's better then their last few efforts.

I love leaks like this because the confirm/deny date is tomorrow. All the excitement with just enough buildup time to be pleasantly surprised if true, but not out for blood if false.
It's already passed the time for when Nintendo would announce a direct so it's probably false, BUT it says it's a mini direct and I don't think Nintendo announces these ahead sometime. I believe sometimes they just put it up on YouTube.

What's the harm in announcing a reveal date? I guess if they don't have a reveal date planned then that could be a problem, but if they do then I see no problem with that. And mentioning that there will be brand new games, not even any titles, just a casual mention that brand new, next-gen games will be shown, can't possibly hurt them.

This could be real. Weren't we supposed to get new Pokemon news on June 2?

Today is the day Nintendo would usually announce a Nintendo Direct. I guess we'll find out in a few hours.

If I remember correctly the (pre-E3 2015) Nintendo Direct Micro was not announced at all. It just launched in US and that was it.

Nintendo Direct Micros are usually uplodaded with no pre-announcement at all. This doesn't mean this leak is real, though. Just a clarification.

nothing will ever top SNES or N64

it's just not possible

N64 literally launched with 2 games. Sure one of them is one of the best games ever made, but it's still... 2 games. And nothing came out for WEEKS after launch.

SNES is probably their strongest launch, though (SMW, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Sim City, Gradius 3). Japan only got SMW and F-Zero at launch, though. Two games, again.

I'm sure many would argue FOR wii, though, w/ twilight princess and wii sports (and excite truck).

quality > quantity

It was one of the 2 launch games, and it's lasted me 20 YEARS

same with Mario World

can't say the same about GC launch (unless you count Melee), Wii launch or Wii U launch.

If NX launches alongside the EAD Tokyo Mario, it would probably be the best Nintendo launch lineup since the N64. But with Zelda being there at launch, that's probably not going to happen. Hopefully Zelda is good.

Did you buy an N64 at launch? After I got 120 stars in mario 64 after like a week, I had nothing to do for months. I ended up getting a PS1 as a result.

Not necessarily. We've gotten announcements anywhere from 16-24 hours ahead of time.

That said, I don't buy that they have another Mario Party game ready so soon. That screams fake to me.

I'm the type of guy who doesn't want to spoil games by seeing even demos longer than a few moments.. So all they have is a stream of the new Zelda..... So lame.

If the stream is riddled with other announcements, I'll be watching though.

i ran around the world in mario 64 in awe for like 2 years

and I couldn't collect all 120 stars back then, rainbow road 100 coins was too hard >_<

What if Zelda is a letdown? Nintendo would get torn to shreds in the press.

Yeah. And while that might be okay if this was just about the Wii U being put out to pasture, Nintendo needs to realise that everyone is going to treat this as if we're seeing the first NX launch game. A bad reaction to Zelda will negatively affect the NX.

I don't know, I'm replaying Witcher 3 right now and it's such an incredible take on the fantasy open-world idea that I'm struggling to see how Zelda could possibly match it. Both the public and press will be aware that the standards have been raised...

Hoping they're going full Twilight Princess, remember that cool ass set they built, with holographic ponds and everything? Not even mad anymore, excited to see more Zelda and hopefully some direct feed video so we can hear what the in game music's like :)

Why would this Kirby folder have the name of the game wrong?

Well I was confused at first and then remembered we had Star Fox Guard for Project Guard. And then what of Project Giant Robot? Not saying I believe it but that's what it made me think of to use a IP for that project to put it to something.

Zelda is almost all about the dungeons to me. Wish Nintendo never used the word "open-world" for Zelda UNX, now it has to compare to other games in areas that have fuck all to do with LoZ games.

HAVEN'T YOU HEARD? The Witcher 3 has NOTHING to do with Zelda. Nor does Dark Souls for that matter.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. You can't compare those games. You Can't. Zelda has dungeons and blocks you push and boomerangs. Does The Witcher have blocks? NO.

Zelda will be a letdown.
Nx launch will absolutely be a letdown

Well that dont apply to everyone, now they gotta deal with it

It depends what you comparing.

One can hope, as long as it is significantly better than the gamecube/wii/wii u launch, it will already be history in the making.

What was wrong with the Wii launch?? It had Zelda, some good third party games and Wii Sports...a game which got us the most successful Nintendo console to date.
