Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

That depends on what margins AMD is making on the chip ultimately, chips like this don't become cheaper to produce with volume but makers are willing to compromise on margins for hight volume orders. However, a $199 chip like this is very likely to be a very low margin chip for AMD already.

It does if you want the same performance. (ie unless they clock it lower which means lower performance also)

Not if Microsoft made a deal to help invest in the development of the GPU which is likely if it is indeed what is going into the Scorpio.

the TV stuff doesn't work as well without Kinect right? all the IR blaster stuff happens there?

Honestly, the TV stuff works best with their media remote, TV is usually too loud and too many voices for it to work properly when watching.

You can plug in your own IR blaster. Or you can get the usb tuner from Hoppage that changes channels and such over usb. That only works with over the air signals though, no cable.

The problem was the way they marketed at the reveal.

The controversy is not the continued existence of the HDMI-in port.

exactly this.. the existence of the in port was not the issue. It was the considerable number of times they said "TV" during their reveal and E3 press event that was the big deal. Follow up by the insane rambling of Don Mattrick cementing the notion of we don't give a f*ck about you in post interviews saying things like we have another console for you called the 360 if you can't do always online.... just insanely ignorant to their actual user base.

When do people think they will actually release not reveal the Scorpio?

1. July 2016
2. November 2016
3. May 2017
4. November 2017
5. Don't agree with any of the above and I think it'll release ______ ___?

I believe those new controller revisions will have a mic in them, so that Cortana becomes useful to more people. Hopefully they release a media remote with a mic in it as well.

Then don't? Not every feature of every product is targeted at every demographic. It's called value proposition.

I just never saw the point of any of it.
The Xbox does not mean i do not need a satellite receiver box.
My satellite box has a hard drive to pause record etc TV.
My smart TV does YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, Internet etc.. And did so before Xbox was released.

I do not see any point in using another box to display things on a screen when said screen already has said features built in.

It's like having a wank with a glove on.

Eww, apps on smart tvs are garbage.

They are probably doing it for the same reason people get mad about WMC dying on the PC.

Eww, apps on smart tvs are garbage.

LOL, they really are for the most part.

I'll be happy to be able to use the new Xbox to watch 4k netflix over having to use my TV now.

Different people are different. Some console owners are 16 and don't even have a living room. They probably aren't using the HDMI in or paying for a PlayStation Vue subscription. But again, value proposition.

You need a better TV.

And even if they are, are they 500 dollars worse?

You're not buying the Xbox for that, it's just an added value on top of the gaming part.

Not to mention, a lot has to be said for being able to stay in the same ecosystem while watching TV and other media.

Depends on how much responsiveness and quickness matter to you and whether you play games. Otherwise, there are $100 options that will 100% be better than whatever garbage processor and software the TV is running them on.

next year will have call of duty and battlefield as well. Xbox could just as easily push their power advantage next year
i doubt we will see battlefield next year.

im not saying they cant push power next year. Im saying its a huge mistake to not release scorpio in tandum with the neo. this isnt a console launch with crappy launch games. This mid gen with heavy hitting games where you need to market aggressively.

Shouldn't it be in the console? Otherwise the mic wouldn't work unless the controller was turned on?

I guess they could add some sort of low power state to the controller so you don't need to turn it back on and just press a button to roll on again, that'd be cool actually as long as it doesn't hurt the battery life too much

Unless that console is not vibrating at all, the mic in there would perform poorly. They even moved the Kinect mics out of the body because the tiny fan in there was messing with it. Not only that but people don't always place the boxes in places convenient for speech to be picked up.

I disagree really. I think the cheaper slim models will be the biggest sellers for the foreseeable generational future. Similar to last gen how 4 years in it was these $200 slim models that were flying off the shelves. These pricier spec boost models will sell to the enthusiasts.

Don't agree with any of the above and I think it'll release June 13.

"One more thing.... Xbox scorpio is out now worldwide" and watch the world burn

totally different scenario. Last gen they dropped slims with no power increase or upgrade in the forseable future.

Now we have one upgraded slim and another being succeded within the year.

My xfinity remote does a great job with voice commands holding down a button. That's a tv remote. Surely an xbox controller could do the same.

Wait... then how are you dealing with it?

I'm not? I asked how the TV stuff works without Kinect and in response to the explanations I said yuck then someone asked why I said yuck and I said I don't want to deal with that stuff.

what are you getting at here?

Would it really be that big of a deal if they didn't use Zen?

It feels like anything would be an upgrade over the Jaguar.

Zen would be the absolute biggest upgrade any console could do outside of HBM2's bandwidth upgrade.

The GPU in the PS4K is going to be hamstrung to some extent by the relative weakness of the CPU and the bandwidth. If MS goes with something close in power to Jaguar and not HBM2, their even bigger GPU would be completely pointless to take advantage of.

Hmm good point, in a way that probably rules out the controller aswell due to the vibration.

Your TV remote doesn't need to be turned on though, different situation :P

You've already implied the existence of it makes you "not want to have to deal with that."

Below:

I don't want to deal with any of that stuff.

HEAR ME OUT I'm not saying everyone is like me, I'm just explaining why I personally said yuck

Now you're saying that it's existence doesn't mean you have to deal with it.

Which is it?

More GPU power is never pointless even more so with VR on the way .
If MS goes with better CPU it's not like it going to get take advantage of really .
Just look at PC version of games for the last few years .

In this brave new world, lets say that I buy a Xbox Slim and Xbox Stick (or whatever has been hinted at) , and then later buy a Scopio (when available).

Would I then be able to cast the output from my Scopio to my PC, my Slim OR my Stick? Cause that would be pretty cool.

I really don't understand your question. honestly. you also seem strangely combative about this TV stuff

I hope so. I'm not buying a stick if it's not compatible with the Scorpio, but it would be pretty dumb if it isn't.

Sigh never mind.

Let's just end it by saying that it can continue to be on the device without being an annoyance to those that don't want to use it but offering value to those that do.

that was never my point. my original point was that I could see them removing the HDMI-in as a way to further confirm their "its all about the games" image

hell they could even offer an HDMI-in adapter or something for people that really want it

Yes, they could.

Now we can drop this HDMI shit?
