The Witcher III: Blood & Wine |OT| One last contract, one last plough

I have to wait until next week until I can play it because my girlfriend likes the witcher and wants to see it. So how is it guys? Is it better than HoS which I found to be awesome? The wait is killing me!!!

I'm not terribly far into it, but it's very different than HoS. HoS was a very focused piece of story content, and to me ended up being one of the best written of the entire game, all told. I think they were able to do that because it was so focused. This expansion is spread out a lot, and I think they put a lot of time into giving you a variety of things to do in the new area. There are way more quests and it's just much larger than HoS. From what I've seen and others have said the story isn't quite as strong as HoS, but that's really to be expected, I think. This is a more laid back, more colorful romp in a new area and HoS was a focused story. They're different things. It's not trying to take the crown from HoS. I'm glad both exist and both add onto the amazing game we already had.

I'm liking the coloring so far of toussaint.

I haven't touched HoS or BaW yet. I have a level 34 Geralt that has finished Vanilla. Should I do the expansions in release order or is a replay on NG+ worthwhile?

I didn't do NG+ and just finished up hearts today after a few days. I was only level 36 or something. Going into blood with level 40. Going in order of release.

If you want a continued challenge, I guess you can just turn on the enemy scaling.

You will enjoy the expansions a lot more than replaying the base game.
Then after finishing them you can start NG+ and replay everything.

Random thought, I feel like the camera work in Blood and Wine is much improved over the rest of the game. Most of the cinematography in the base game is pretty basic shot reverse shot with a static camera and Blood and Wine I've noticed the camera work a few times, which I never did in the base game. There is some nice camera placement and also a few rather nice moving shots that sort of dolly forward then turn around and dolly back and some jib-like shots too. Small thing to notice I suppose but that's encouraging. Most games have very uninspired camera work. Like, as great as Uncharted's cutscenes are, they are shot extremely boringly so it's nice to see camera work that isn't just static tripod and panning.

I love Witcher 3 but man the combat pisses me off to no end sometimes. Doing a fight right now with some Archespores plus a named Spriggan and Geralt constantly decides to randomly swing at bulbs on the ground instead of the Spriggan despite my best efforts.

Every gripe I have about this game falls on the combat but everything else around it is so fantastic that I only remember when it goes bad.

The camera work in Metal Gear Solid V was fantastic

Did they completely remove the manual lock on? I swear the vanilla game, and even HoS, had it.
You can still lock on and see the glowing circle with enemies that have the little circle around their name. For bosses with their health floating at the top it feels like the lock on is iffy where Geralt still moves around facing the enemy and the camera stays with them for the most part, but it doesn't feel as smooth.

Yeah, it never got a lot of praise for how it used "single takes" and had the camera move between multiple compositions. That's an extremely Spielbergy way of shooting a scene.

I love using my DS4's touch pad to add a little camera shake during certain scenes of TW3 when things get tense.

That's what I thought. It doesn't seem to be working for me. It doesn't lock on to anyone since the 1.21 patch on PC.

Finished the first route - I'll do the other one tomorrow.
I wonder if the end can be averted...

Ending it at your vineyard had me grinning all the way through the dialogue with
Yen
. It was just perfect.
Yen saying "fuck changing my style, I'll just stay in the shade and you'll bring me drinks" is so like her. And she wants to bring the unicorn there too :lol

All in all, very good expansion. Though the main quest is a tad short.

Can I just say that GOG needs to fix their shit

Took me an hour to get B&W to download through GOG Galaxy

And when it does DL it does so at 0.3MB a sec and fails every 200 megs or so. So I have to restart the DL

Only done 2.6GB after 13 hours

Don't ever use GOG Galaxy, it's shit. GOG downloader is the way to go.

Anyone using a ds4windows setup for instant sign casting?

The profile I used for the vanilla game+HoS doesnt seem to be fully working anymore. The touchpad swipes for ui stuff still works fine but the R2+face buttons to cast base signs and R2+HOLD face button to cast secondary are not.

Can't you just download it manually from your GOG library?

The only way I can force it to work is if I go into the games home page and then

More -> Extra Downloads and manually select the B&W download

Going to try the GOG downloader. Really makes me appreciate Steam when shit like this happens

How do you invite people to come to your villa?

Is it just random or do I actually need to teleport back to the base game?
As of right now from everything I've read any guests coming to your Amy winehouse visit by themselves.

The info around the Web made it seem like you could invite people yourself, doesn't seem to be the case unless I'm proven wrong.

Is the story mysterious or not? The marketing made it seem like a dark secret would unfold. Really curious but the comments seem to be that the story isn't that focused nor as meaty as the HoS story.

For the Smitten Knight quest, is there any reason to
use Ravix of Fourhorn instead of Geralt of Rivia
for entering the tourney?
Seems like the only reason would be to get the
different shield and colors

I chose the latter and you also get
people recognizing you from the past
If that's an incentive to go with it.

Still binging this damn game. The sheer amount of new and quality content for the cost of an expansion is amazing. I love you CDPR, fucking A, I love you.

This is runner up for the best under $20 purchase I have made this year (S&S being the other).

The crossbow has a custom Wolf sigil too I imagine ? I also failed the tournament, I didn't got to fight the huge dude and didn't get the sword

Nah it has the colors.

At the end of the day I think the crossbow was better than my bear crossbow, but I didn't even check the stats of the sword because I'm so used to Witcher gear max level being better than anything you can get in a mission.

I have it in a stand in my Vineyard though.

God damnit are CD Project incapable of making Geralt control like a decent character? It was a while since i had played W3 and my God its a great game but fuck character movement and controls. Its irritating as hell...

And no, alternate controls are still shitty...

I just dont see how they cant fix this crap since they have overhauled almost every single aspect of the rest of the game...

I didn't have an issue with it . . . but I do hear this complaint often.

Fuck this game okay? I just fought
Caretaker
on Deathmarch and beat him on the first try without wasting resources, and then the game FUCKING freezes during the cutscene; it didn't fucking autosave after the end of the boss fight.

WHY THE FUCKING FUCK YOU WOULDN'T PROGRAM THE GAME TO SAVE AFTER A MAJOR FUCKING BOSS BATTLE.

I've sunk in 240 hours and I am ready to delete this fucking turd now. I had nothing but issues every time they release a major update.

So the first thing I did in Touissant was to collect all Skellige Gwent cards.

Yeah, I think I'm addicted to that minigame.

LOL. Same here, dude. Screw your potentially important matters which requires Geralt's assistance, NPCs. Gwent first, talky after.

Still wrecking everyone in Toussaint with my Northern Realm deck. Don't fuck with King Foltest's crew...lol

Calm down fella Jez

New UI is fucking horrible. I'm beyond frustrated with it to the point I quit. I'm not playing this game again until CDPR fixes it. Maybe it's not an issue on PC (although I've read that there's considerable menu lag even on that platform) but on PS4 it's worse than ever. The menu is complete shit in every way- 3-4 seconds to switch between tabs, tons of lag and lack of response while viewing items, and the the sort function doesn't even fucking work. Like you literally sort -> price and the result is a random clusterfuck of items that makes it a complete chore to find what you want to sell, and the "star" indicating you have new items is useless because they are randomly scattered through your laggy-ass inventory, and with the new pop up box blocking your view, it's a big pain in the ass to find anything anyway.

After a year on the market and 15 or so patches, I can't believe it's at it's worst now. Maybe I'm just picky, but it's unplayable for me due to the fact that it makes me angry instead of giving me enjoyment. Perhaps CDPR thought they were doing the community a favor with this, but clearly they didn't have it tested beyond their studio.

Am I insane or does anyone else feel the same way?

Man CDPR nailed having an ally like
Regis
, really enjoyed the character and the motivations.

fighting with higher vampires really makes the wild hunt seem weak. pretty sure regis would have tore those stupid evil elf people a new asshole by himself.
