Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Kind of disappointing that there's no free game for the 1080 :/

They don't need to add one. The cards flew of the shelves, and the next batch coming in, even the FE's are most likely already booked. Won't see game promo until sales starts to cool off some I think.

SpainGaf!!

otac is selling their 1080 AMP! Extreme on Coolmod, i bought one right now!

Btw this model has 2x8 pin and three fans.

As in, "in stock" selling? or up for pre-order?

It says "envio en 24/72 horas" so...in stock

Looks like EVGA updated their FTW dimensions. The height is 4.3in whereas before they listed as being over 5in. I was getting a bit worried that this card might be too big.

So, all cards have the same dimensions again, but now smaller. SMH. I'm skeptical..to be honest.

I would still be skeptical about EVGA's specs.

4.3" is the same as the reference, and you can just tell the PCB is bigger than the bracket on the FTW.

With the relatively even (poor) overclocking, is anyone considering a basic low-end card to save money, on the basis they'll perform roughly the same?

I've got both a non-SC EVGA with ACX cooler and the FTW preordered, will probably go with the former if overclocking tops out at around 2-2.1 GHz without adding volts.

On air, I've never really found adding volts to be worth it due to the increase in heat/noise

Hmmm good point. I wish they would release a full spec already. The clocks are still TBD.

Dude on reddit posted a mail from caseking.
EVGA FTW (probably all ex 17th cards) ETA has been moved to 28th... Fuck this bullshit.

Fun fact: 1080FE is in pretty good supply here in Moscow in retail. Not many people are willing to buy it for its local price.

How can every non-FE card be delayed? My tin foil hat is talking to me, and it is telling me this is nvidia's doing to get some more sweet sweet FE money.

Why even make reference models if you know people want custom? Why are people even buying reference models when they know the superior cards will be out eventually?

This is such a slimy business

I managed to pre-order the FTW from Amazon, but do we have any idea if/when the Classified version of EVGA's 1080 will be released or available? Seems like that's currently the highest tier 1080 they're making, right?

Aria.co.uk told me Nvidia are handling the initial shipments. They are doing a fine job of fucking them up.

I think this is the first time the reference model has also been the most expensive.

Previously, it was the first to market and also sold at the base MSRP, so it made sense for people who didn't necessarily care about the extra performance for a premium.

Yeah, I think that judging from the pictures the previous measurement is correct.

Can't afford to get mine until August, hopefully there'll be a free game bundled with them by then. Have narrowed down my selection to the EVGA FTW, Asus Strix or Inno3D X3/4. Just waiting for reviews before I make my final decision. :oD

This is literally the only time I can recall where the poorest performer of a piece of hardware is actually the most expensive.

Anecdotal, but it's been in stock at NCIX since it launched.

The only thing that puzzles me is some going for well over MSRP on eBay.

Honestly, I hope AMD's 480X does really well. NVidia needs to learn some humility. I wish I weren't so tied them.

Anyone know if the Founders Editions come with SLI bridges?
Specifically the gigabyte one

Edit:
Another question
Got a friend who got two cards and was wondering if any SLI bridge would do?
The image below claims standard bridges wont be as smooth at 4k. What does not as smooth mean exactly? My friend wanted to buy a $7 while waiting for nvidia to release a new SLI brdige for the 1080 http://images.nvidia.com/geforce-co...1080-recommended-sli-bridge-configuration.png

Maybe they're waiting to see if the fan issue is resolved with a software fix, or perhaps it's a hardware issue. Wouldn't want to ship a lot of product that would come back.

Have they ever offered a free game at launch in recent years? I always considered it an incentive once initial launch sales declined.

980 Ti launched with a free game because it was included in a promotion that was going on at the time for the 970/980.

Unfortunately that free game was Batman: Arkham Knight.

Shit. I've been without a GPU for two weeks already.

Cons - the wait is painful
Pros - maybe the 1070 will almost be out by then and I can switch to the common sense card that I should buy
Cons - or this means 1070 will be pushed even further out

I wonder if a workable tactic would be to buy an EVGA FE and step sideways to the EVGA SC?

Been thinking the same. All in all it's just a clusterfuck of a launch lol.
I still have my 970 but I imagine the reselling value will drop significantly once 1070 is out. It's been surprisingly consistent these past weeks despite all announcements.

Btw, can confirm that the FE is consistently in stock at a bunch of retailers and online shops here in Germany as well.

Just be aware they won't refund the difference if you do that though (step up from FE). FE is $50 more than the SC here.

jeez, what is the price elsewhere in EU ? here i see 790 till 900 EUR, and like 3 in the whole country... 1080 off course

We don't know for sure they've even been delayed, Scan says 10th SC and 17th FTW still.

Asus Strix vs inno3d's fan noise level, listen to the Strix at the end. http://youtu.be/l_utspofsHI

The text states that they are ramping it to 100% ... the card would never run the fans at 100% under normal conditions. it would most likely keep the fans at 60%.
And the inno3d has to go to a higher percentage to achieve the same airflow.

So the only thing this video is showing is that the Asus card is capable of higher airflow.
The cards will probably have around the same DB rating +-1 when running an actual game

Based on my experiences with 980 Tis, the 1080s will most likely go to 100% fan speeds when overclocking and in the summer. It all depends on how they are setup in the card's BIOS. The ASUS is most likely louder in normal use too.

According to Computerbase, the in-game noise level on the Strix is 42.5 dB while it's only 38 dB on the iChill. Of course, the former stays at 72 degrees while the latter goes up to 81. (But 72 seems a bit overzealous)

Cancelled my FTW preorder. Couldn't really justify over £600 when the 1070 should be under £400 (still a lot). And benchmarks are using max settings while I'm happy enough to dial a few of the power hungry effects down a notch or two.

I was late preordering anyway so probably would have been waiting a while. hopefully I can jump on a 1070 preorder quickly

What's your ambient temp in the summer?

I've got my EVGA 980 TI clocked at 1450 MHz with ACX cooler in a room that's around 81 F ambient and it doesn't break 70% fan speed, usually peaks at 62% during gaming sessions

1080 with the ACX cooler would probably run significantly quieter considering the card's TDP is around 30% less.
