Poké Ball shaders look better now.

What? :p

I'll understand if they don't allow you to use rotom to fight, but they better allow you to name the rotom, because what's the point of this if i can't name him "Dexter"?

Oh my god, that map's so dense.

Different artists and art styles, I know, but compare that to the Kalos map, and it's night and day. Can't wait to explore it all.

It really is. You can already tell it's a huge improvement over the Kalos region from the map alone

One thing I haven't seen mentioned- this map artwork doesn't contain everything we're going to be able to visit, due to the 3D nature of the game.

Look at this, from the reveal trailer:

We can clearly see that the bay behind the waterfall on the starting island has a cave coming off it.

Now, from the big map...

We can see the same bay, but because of the different angle, the cave is hidden from view.

This is the advantage we get from the game being unhooked from the grid system- for the first time, the camera can get around and show all the nooks and crannies, and we can have a full, 360 world removed from the linear overhead perspective.

As chock-full of interest as this map is, I would be thoroughly unsurprised if it had a tonne of secrets we can't see yet.

Could anyone make a list of every site/building visible on the map? It looks huge (at first glance it doesn't look like anything special).

ps. can't wait for the GameXplain analysis.

So, based on typing, which legendary has the edge against the other 1v1?
I know it depends on moveset but how do their types match up?

Assuming the same type match ups as in Gen 6 and they don't make tweaks again, Lunala edges out Solgaleo. Ghost does normal damage to Steel now and super effective damage against Psychic.

There's a Rotom in my Pokédex and I FUCKING HOPE HE WILL TELL US WHAT MY POKÉMON ARE SAYING!!

Do we already know which part of the world Alola is based on?

If you really want it, I could work on something like that. Otherwise, look through the thread and people have been pulling out interesting buildings/landmarks.

Also, check out this extra-zoomable version of the map and explore it yourself as you wait for the GameXplain video.

It's gotta be underneath one of these clouds. Come on Game Freak, I believe in you

I wouldn't count on it. As much as I'd like it. GameFreak seems to care more about creating content that the casual player would use more so than "hardcore" features like Battle Frontier.

Psychic/Steel? :/
Should have given it Psychic/Fire as a typing. We already have a Metagross, and there isn't a good Fire/Psychic pokemon.

Moon legend already looked inferior design wise, and I'm not a fan of its typing.

They teased it in ORAS despite the removal so for now I'm going to refuse to believe they'd do that unless they have something planned. :(

Devil's Advocate: Just because Metagross has the same typing, doesn't necessarily mean that Solgaleo will play the same exact way as Metagross. It'll all come down to movepool, BSTs, and what kind of role it can play in a team.

Also, Victini can rekt so much if you managed to get the JAP event when it has V-Create and the Signature moves of Reshiram and Zekrom.

That page also has a screenshot of the world map:

Very atypical looking for Pokemon

...Is that the Dexnav icon?

PLEASE LET THAT BE THE DEXNAV ICON. I can't go back.

That's a great link!

You can really see the few gyms they have set up. And the bottom-right island has only one pokecenter. Safari Zone maybe, or just a final place to visit?

I reckon that island's a gauntlet leading up to where you encounter Solgaleo/Lunala. That pedestal at the top looks like a less detailed version of where you see them in the initial reveal trailer.

Not a huge fan of the legendary typings, was expecting something like Fire/Steel for Solgaleo and Fairy/Ghost or Fairy/Dark for Lunala. Still love Moonbat though.

Guessing Sunsteel Strike and Moongeist Beam will be dual-type like Flying Press.

Completely forgot that Victini existed. I was thinking of Delphox and the alternate Darm form.

Hau is a Pokémon-loving young boy with a big appetite! He's the same age as your character. When you move to the Alola region, he makes friends with you right away. He has a real weakness for malasada, a famous treat in the Alola region, and he is always in search of malasada shops. He is a big-hearted boy who really loves Pokémon.
I could sure go for some those again... :/

Best served warm! Chocolate filled Malasada I ate this morning!

For the uninitiated, a malasada is a food that the Portuguese brought over during the Hawaii plantation days and have been popular food in Hawaii ever since. The chocolate/custard/haupia filled ones is probably a Hawaii thing.

So the sun legendary is weak to fire and the moon weak to dark? That's fuckin stupid.

Solgaleo is absorbing and reflecting the Sun power. He's known as the "devour of the sun", according to the Pokemon Sun & Moon oficial info at least. It could have been Steel/Fire, but still, he's not the Sun Pokemon, but the Sun Eater Pokemon.

Dark type in Japan is not "obscurity" or "night" type, but evil and sinister. In spanish, Dark type is "Siniestro", evil too

Also, it would have made more sense Fairy type for Lunala, since Pokemon already established Fairy type as the moon related pokemon, and Lunala isn't the Moon Pokemon, but the Moon Summoner Pokemon.

Wait a sec, is "Alola Region" a Japanese L/R pun?

"Alola" -> "Arora" -> "Aurora"

What with the space/cosmic theme of the two Psychic type legends and their faces that have that "galaxy effect" in their designs?

Hawaii is capable of seeing the Southern Lights during periods of extremely intense solar storms, but you can only see Aurora Australis at night, so for Hawaii it's a rare SOLAR phenomena that occurs at NIGHT.

Sun and Moon.

So much water, I wonder if Dive or something similar is going to make a return in this Gen

The water around the islands is light blue (and enclosed by rocks), while the 'ocean' is much darker. There are also boats everywhere on the map and a dock on each of the 4 main islands. I doubt we're going to be surfing between locations much, if at all.

Or, it's a pun on Aloha.

Aurora is pronounced Ooroora in Japanese, anyway.

That's most likely a travertine terrace, a natural rock and water formation found in several places around the world. Here's a list of the best ones: http://www.atlasofwonders.com/2012/11/travertine-terraces.html

This one looks like the most famous one, which is in Turkey:

Ah, thanks. I knew it was based on a real thing but I couldn't remember what they were called, and it's a bit hard to search for stuff without the name. Gorgeous!

No, I mean, *obviously* it's a pun on "Aloha," but that's just a bit too on-the-nose, to me.
They just changed one letter to get there.

Sunsteel strike I'm guessing will be Fire/Steel

Sun = Fire
Steel = Steel

Moongiest I'm thinking fairy/ghost

Moon = Fairy
Giest = Ghost

Its not dual typing since its super effective on gengar and normal effective on salamance. I think its just steel and ghost, with at least 110 base attack since it ohko salamance.
