Explore the Alola Region in Pokemon Sun and Moon Trailer

Saw this on /vp/.

Also looks to be a Parasect in one of the clouds too.

Just thought it was neat and worth posting

Yeah, but the description...

Yes, I was specifically referring to the category, which seemed the focus of the discussion previously.

Well, Vulcarona is already the Sun Pokemon. And we all know you can't have two Pokemon have the same category. So if we have to settle for "Sunne," we might as well take "Moone," too.

Espeon, Sunflora and Volcarona are all categorized as "Sun Pokémon". There was no "Moon Pokémon" though.

The fact that the three Johto legendaries are joined by a Parasect should be enough to tell you that people are only seeing what they want to see. Those are just clouds.

So if X/Y had stuff from Gen I like legendary and starters.... Will S/M have those from Gen II? Bring those M-Feraligatr Sun and M-Feraligatr Moon already!!

Or the artists were just doing some neat little sketches with the clouds? Not really trying to imply there's some hidden meaning.

Never forget Pac-Man in the clouds for Greninja's reveal trailer in Smash 4!

ok this looks pretty legit. I am liking the look of it, might be the first one i actually play since pearl/black. the game got too samey for me over the years, despite my fondness for it. I'm loving the art change up and how the characters/environments look.

my only other wish is that
they would make it an action rpg where you directly control the pokemon during battle and the abilities are a mix of realtime/cooldowns and ATB
but it couldn't be a mainline pokemon game without people throwing shitfits, can't evolve gameplay too much without alienating people, despite the franchise already having an assload of mainline games that play roughly the same

still love me some pokemon, just want a reason to get back into it. Will definitely buy this one regardless!

Johto also had the Bell Tower and Brass/Burned Tower, which is similar to the design of that tower.

#JohtoConfirmed

I would not mind a connection to the Gen 2 games. Those
remakes
are my favorite games.

You could play a spin off where they do that. Pokemon covers a tremendous variety of genres across spin offs. The main reason that they don't make a fundamental change to the gameplay to something like ATB or action based is because of competitive play.

i mean...

can you name a game like that, with that sort of battle system...

that has 20 characters?

how about 50?

how about 100?

how about 700?

!
I don't think you really get why parts of the gameplay have remained the same over 20 years and why a LOT of people would not be amused if they changed it.

The reason why Pokémon still has its gameplay is because it's simple and yet deep.

Anyone can assign 4 moves to a Pokémon. But if we are going to think about which ones are actually useful, we start going down a rabbit hole that is far deeper than anyone could have expected.

And that's the beauty of Pokémon.

Secondary typings make no sense. But I sense a small possibility of them gaining a 3rd type via Mega Evolution or being able to switch forms.

Not being fire or fairy typing just seems like they're trying to mess with us.

Absolutely love the character designs, especially for the male and female avatars.

Is this the same artist from XY and previous? Or did they get a new lead artist?

The best explanation I've heard is that a lion devouring the sun is an image commonly associated with Alchemy.

yeah, that's what I'm proposing really.

I'm quite aware why, ya. I'm pretty sure I mentioned people would flip their shit in my post.

This is confusing to me, what do the amount of characters have anything to do with it?

to be clear, all I'm really looking for is essentially battle controls like ocarina of time (picture being able to lock on, run around in full 3d but maybe have the battle area be sectioned off to a wide radius), map each ability to a face button (A- quick attack, B-hydro pump, X- psychic, Y- confuse ray, etc) with a cooldown, or something similar, could even build in the PP system of course. Then outside of battle you'd run around like is in the new game anyway. It's just something I've always wanted to see/play, and I think it could be pretty dang fun.

but no, it wouldn't be competitive in the same way current pokemon is at all, and would fundamentally change that aspect of the game. It's a thought based on what I think might be fun, it wouldn't even have to be Pokemon, but pokemon would be perfect for it. As a pokemon fan (which it feels like I wouldn't be regarded as here due to my comments Lol), I find the lack of updates they've done to the game over such a long amount of time to be few, or at least, few important ones that move the game forward in bold, interesting ways. again, the formula is essentially perfected so if it was tampered with, there would be quite a storm! haha

The lion is literally the most metal Pokemon thing ever I can't even.

The bat at least should have been fairy instead of psychic. Be consistent.
Psychic/Steel still makes more sense than Palkia's Dragon/Water
Palkia and Dialga are so esoteric in concept that they're really hard to give secondary types for.

Psychic makes sense, considering it's space.

Lillie looks interesting; she could be a rival or the champion. I've seen some speculation where she's on the opposing team, but I don't think that's likely. I'm kinda curious as to what role the older professor(the one who gives you your starters) plays.

Found some things thanks to Scarl's help.

Scarl showed me these which I found really interesting. There's is an old bat myth about the creation of day and night. It's a neat little story.

https://books.google.be/books?id=p7dR2w1Wv2sC&printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&q=moon bat&f=false

Scarl also showed me this gold lunula necklace which has the moon shape like you see with Lunala's wings.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_lunula

Lunala's appearance is a bat and we all know that bat's are often associated with evil themes like ghosts. Also While Lunala also has gold on it, in alchemy the moon rules over silver which is a white metal. The moon is also associated with bodily organs like the brain. So for typing you got the ghost and psychic which fits for its folkore and alchemy. Sun rules over gold which is a yellow metal that resembles the sun. Sun is also associated with the heart so I dunno what to say about the psychic type aspect. But why is this important though? Because it shows a link between them and even if the colors of white and yellow are switched, there's still a theme of gold and silver.

There could still be some more things out there that we haven't found though. There's gotta be something for Solgaleo and it being part psychic.

Is Sun associated with the heart as in the organ or in more of a spiritual sense? Because if it's more of a symbolic "heart and mind" relation I'd say that still fits psychic somewhat? Think lake trio.

You touch upon this by mentioning the switched colours but I think it's also worth pointing out it's Lunala's skeletal bits which might be silver instead of bone. It makes for that better balance (Solgaleo is mostly white = silver with bits of gold, while Lunala has more gold on it than silver) but it also sort of matches up with moon / silver being associated with bodily organs. ...Sort of.

I probably should have split some things up.

Astrological alchemy associates planets with certain metals. Hermetic Qabalah alchemy is mysticism and associates certain planets with bodily organs. Both still work in this case.

Astrological alchemy:
Sun rules gold
Moon rules silver
Mercury rules quicksilver/mercury
Venus rules copper
Mars rules iron
Jupiter rules tin
Saturn rules lead

Hermetic Qabalah alchemy:
Sun, heart
Moon, brain
Mercury, lungs
Venus, kidneys
Mars, gall bladder
Jupiter, liver
Saturn, spleen

I suppose you could put heart to be a more spiritual sense with all this taken into consideration. The sephirothic tree in Hermetic Qabalah is something you do also see in Full Metal Alchemist on the gate of alchemy which is called "God's domain" when Ed and Al lose their bodies. Also side note, the names to each part of the tree are also some of the major town and city names in Tales of the Abyss like Daath, Chokhmah, Binah, Malkuth, and Hod.

Also I do agree with you on the color schemes.

Some people might correlate Mind with Soul

Thanks for breaking it down like that, it's interesting stuff.

So technically it's heart the organ, gotcha. Still, we're dealing with mysticism here and combining it with astrological alchemy, so you could probably still argue it's a heart in the spiritual sense like you say. And considering its golden counterpart is the brain which you could match with the Psychic type much easier I do think it makes sense to look at the heart in that way too. (You could probably also try and link HeartGold and SoulSilver to this stuff somehow. :p)

And I did notice that the location of Lunala's aforementioned "silver" bones match up with where the heart would be, guarding it like a ribcage. Notice the bright circle around that area in the purple? It does draw some attention to it. Another case of dualism?

Finally there's the whole cosmic theme, with the celestial bodies of course but also the starry domes on their heads, that one could use the explain the Psychic type. That's probably the most straightforward way to go. Cosmic Power is a Psychic type move for example.

Haha, yeah. Gen 7 echoes Gen 2 like Gen 6 did with Gen 1 confirmed?

Another interesting thing I found. It's an old Hawaiian legend "Crouching Lion"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuMl3WVvZno

Very nice, I'll give that a watch right away.

edit: also the speculation thread probably makes more sense for this stuff whoops

edit 2: watched it, very neat legend. now we only need to find a hawaiian bat legend :p

There's absolutely NOTHING that gets me more hyped for a Pokémon game than a detailed artwork of the region. I'm so excited. The region looks easy to explore, but there's a lot going on here.

The graphics look so cookie cutter, though. There's no personality to it.

Woops, you're right! I completely forgot about the speculation thread. I guess I'll start cross posting my stuff. And yeah, I didn't notice that about the markings on the bodies of the beasts but they do relate as well. Lion has markings on the head, while the bat draws attention to the rib cage where the heart is.

Please let the new rival be a real rival again. I want a guy who is just an immense douche. Or let him start friendly and then become a massive ass because we repeatedly beat him.

At the very least somebody who doesn't become defeatist or a cheerleader like XY's "rivals" would be nice.

Again, the only rival you had in XY is Calem/Serena, and they weren't cheerleadery. In fact they express their frustration on you.

To this day I wonder why people think Tierno, et. al. are rivals.
