I am just going to assume the Asus Strix won't be going in Amazon tomorrow? I just want to pre order!
Oh my god.
Can't believe people trying to convince others the reference card is as good as the better AIB ones. It's actually worse than any of the AIB cards out there.
Lol at the guy saying 'only the cooler is worse'. Do you seriously not realize the significance of that?
Also, the guy with the 1080 FE should return it now. He's obviously not 100% happy now and that feeling will only get worse in the future. Do yourself a favour man, take it back, buy a superior non-reference card, pocket the change.
You cut me real deep Jim.People that bought the FE had plenty of warning that it would be the 1080 that costs the most and performs the worst. Probably no sense in telling them to send it back now.

Might as well buy a GALAX clown card at this point too :^)
I should post this everytime it's mentioned!

If the rumors of Asus raising the price of the STRIX is true then they've just lost a sale from me now and in the future.
I don't understand why they would do this when they had to have priced the card for a profit in the first place and they have a LOT of popularity atm. They could have dominated this series release easily along with the price/perf that they had which would have translated to much more sales in the long run. Now, if they do this, they will just lose a lot of faith and popularity with many potential customers who will just go with a cheaper similar performing card anyway because the OC potential of this series of cards looks to be minimal in real world results anyway. They had a really good wave of PR going and it would have only gotten stronger from word of mouth so why on earth would they throw sand bags in it's path?
I don't know, maybe my anger is coming from the fact that I run a business myself but I try to run it as fairly and just as possible. Which works btw.
what the fuck is that abomination?
How long are you planning to keep the GPU for? If you're gonna keep it for several years it would be silly not to return it.I can agree with this. I am not happy reading some of the post in this thread and around the internet. I really do appreciate everyone here that has given their opinion and have shared facts on the matter. I am thinking hard about it. I have the card right next to me and it's so hard not slapping this baby inside my machine. I'm just looking at it now not knowing what the F I should do. I am leaning heavily towards sending it back. I haven't opened the GPU box to view the contents inside because I know once I see it, it's going in.
You cut me real deep Jim.

Looks like Zotac is going to sell the AMP! EXTREME with a waterblock out of the box.
I hope I am not the only one, but I feel like just about every single custom 1080/1070 is damn ugly. Like worse than previous generations.
Try FurMark for synthetic benchmark.
For regular benchmark, I'd try Unigine Valley at 4K Ultra with all settings maxed and just let it loop ad nauseum.
Sure, but it's not "worse in every possible way". The only thing worse about it is the cooler and the price. The benefit is you get to have one ~3 weeks before everyone else. To some, it's worth the premium (me).
It overclocks the same, it can not throttle itself the same, it essentially is the same.
Non-reference PCBs promise more power phases and additional power pins, but I doubt this will deliver higher overclocks to 99% of people who buy them.
The pcb is also worse, it's a 700 dollar gpu for gods sake and they put a potato cooler on it, there is no justifying that

Are the founders editions garbage if you don't plan on overclocking them or SLI them? I think I heard that they're good for SLI because they're rear exaughst or something?

I'm buying whatever gets out first. Zotac excluded
Think I'm going to go for the EVGA FTW model.
"such an ugly demon clown, I cant believe that image was greenlighted."
It really does hearken back to early 2000s graphics card box art in all the rightways.wrong
What does aib stand for?Good idea to wait for the AIB (custom MSI/Gigabyte/ASUS/EVGA/etc) cards. Higher default boost clocks, quieter/better coolers, and cheaper.
FE is a terrible value.

Anyone thinking this will be the card to last them several years should consider that we might have a couple of turbulent years ahead as new tech like HBM becomes more mainstream, and AMD/Nvidia mature these new processes and produce bigger chips on them.
1080 is very powerful but it's only a 300sqmm chip. 980ti is twice the size. So potentially some big gains still to come
What do you think is might be a possible timeline for such changes? I wanna build a powerful rig for VR, but stuff like this makes me hesitate.Anyone thinking this will be the card to last them several years should consider that we might have a couple of turbulent years ahead as new tech like HBM becomes more mainstream, and AMD/Nvidia mature these new processes and produce bigger chips on them.

It's the Galax 'reference blower' lol
I mean, as long as I can play the latest titles maxed at 1440p/60fps then it probably will last me several years. Do you see improvements in GPU tech preventing that when we've still got several years of PS4/X1? Would be surprised if their upgraded versions get exclusive multiplatform games, even then this card is well beyond their capabilities. I'm not really one to get tech envy when the current tech I have is doing fine for my needs.Anyone thinking this will be the card to last them several years should consider that we might have a couple of turbulent years ahead as new tech like HBM becomes more mainstream, and AMD/Nvidia mature these new processes and produce bigger chips on them.

You won't be able to play latest titles maxed out in 1440 on 60 fps on one 1080 even today. Games will also improve graphically because of console updates in the next couple of years. I wouldn't count on 1080 being the top dog for more than half a year anyway.I mean, as long as I can play the latest titles maxed at 1440p/60fps then it probably will last me several years.
