Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

No, you won't. Most of the benchmarks below are done without even maxing out the games settings and 1080 is already showing 60+-10 average which means that it'll be dipping down to ~40s for minimals.

And all this is even before you start to add things like in-game supersampling, PhysX or newer GW effects like HFTS, VXAO, Volumetric Lighting, ets. It doesn't hold 60 in 1440 even today.
This is telling, I would have thought that the 980Ti would hold 60fps in these games without a sweat and that the results you posted would be synonymous with 4k gaming on that card, never would I have thought that the GTX 1080p would not hold 60fps at 1440p on these titles. I hope these benches are not fixed?

They're releasing the EVGA Hybrid along with water blocks, but they're not up for pre-order yet.

Nice! Looks like it was just revealed a few days ago. Probably why I hadn't seen it yet. Water cooling is great. The overall sound is lower and the card keeps much cooler than just with fans. I still have a pretty good card so I won't be upgrading anytime soon but I'll be keeping an eye on these for later.

I've been trying to read up but I'm still confused about the FE situation.

So basically the $699 "Founder's Edition" only refers to the reference card from Nvidia? All the other cards are the regular $599 price? Or are there third-party FE cards?

Yes to the first question. No to the second. They price their cards at whatever they want, but the Founder's Edition is by default more expensive through the sole merit of being the only card on the market initially.

Beats me, in the UK the custom cards are more expensive than the FE card.

$699 dollars is £481 but oh no we have to pay £619 for the FE card and the customs are £640+

Guess I'm priced out of a 1080 any time soon

I'm not really interested in the 1080, I'm just trying to get an advance read of what the 1070 situation is going to be like. I will have to sell my current card to be able to afford the 1070, but even then I'll only be able to afford the lower price non-FE card.

Isn't amd coming out with a card that will rival this one for a quarter of the price and a lot less power consumption? I hope AMD can create some real competition because nvidia has started to gauge over the last 5-10 years.

No, realistically I think AMD is releasing a card that would compete against maybe a 1060 on the NV side. I've heard some comparisons to the 1070 but I think it's far fetched.

When will reviews for the custom cards start to show up?

Mostly concerned with card size, I'll get an Asus/EVGA or Gigabyte but haven't decided on which one quite yet.

Preordered their too. FTW. June 16 is estimated ship date. I'll cancel my Amazon to save on tax. Thanks for the link.

Holy shit, I might do the same... I really don't know if it's as safe in terms of return policies/methods, or if I'm getting this later than Amazon would, but it might be worth it.

I haven't returned a bunch of stuff to BHPhoto, but they've always had pretty good CS when I needed something. They have been getting pretty regular stock of the FE cards, so I don't see why this would be any different.

Huh? Not at all, only the top models are more expensive than founders, on Novatech all founders cards are £679.99, and FTW is £599 for example.

I don't know much about British online retailers, but the impression I've received over the course of this thread is that Scan is garbage and should be avoided like the plague.

I don't know why you would get that impression, I've been using them for 10+ years and have had nothing but excellent service and value from them. Customer support is second to none as well. This is the first time I can remember such a price anomaly has popped up like this.

I feel like I should get the EVGA ACX 3.0 since it's $40 cheaper
but my heart says get the Gigabyte G1 D:
I'll probably just end up getting whatever releases first

Would the triple fan setup of the G1 make it noticeably cooler than the dual fan EVGA?

This. And is that triple fan going to possible be more loud?

I wish they would've kept the look of the 980ti windforce cards, but this'll likely be the one I get if it does release on the 7th.

£481 doesn't include 20% VAT though, does it? So ~£570 after tax, "only" an extra £50.

Although I'd throw my 970 in the river if I could get a 1080 for under £500

So AIB cards are coming in two weeks and will probably be paper launched as well....Meaning in Canada no one will be able to buy a 1080 until July

The G1 is $611 so it's cheaper isn't it?

Keep in mind that there are some engines out there that have obviously not had a lot of attention put into them for the PC versions. Assassin's Creed since Unity is a typical example, but we also see this with The Division and (especially) with Quantum Break. While it's true that the GTX 1080 (and by extension: any graphics card out there) is insufficient to deal with these games at certain levels of quality, the fault lies more with the game engine itself than with the graphics card.

It reminds me of the article that was posted last year or so about how most optimizations these days were done by the graphics vendors on the driver level, while the games themselves were a horribly unoptimized mess that relied on Nvidia and AMD fixing whatever the devs couldn't fix themselves. There are some really bad developers out there (speaking as a professional developer myself), and the graphics vendors are the ones who have to pay for their lack of competence.

almost everything you posted 2 pages previous was incorrect
