Another poster who can't even begin to back up his random outbursts? Please excuse me if I don't take you seriously. At all.

I want to engage you in constructive discussion, even if I'm proven to be completely wrong in my own arguments. For that to happens we need to have a discussion, with actual arguments. If I'm wrong, then please educate me.

Thank you! I mean that. This is a conversation we can work with.

I'm starting to suspect that there are different goal posts in this discussion about what constitutes "max settings". Personally I don't consider super sampling to be max settings, for example. Those are just a cherry on the top if you've got power to spare after maxing out everything else. Others might disagree, and in that case one might never reach anything that is satisfactory in speed. But I see that we're in agreement on super sampling at least, so that's not the issue here.

There are a number of games in your list I haven't seen benchmarks for, so I'm going to have to take your word that they can't hold 60 fps on 1440p. Some others in this list I've seen multiple benchmarks for though, demonstrating that they can maintain a comfortable 60 fps. This includes Hitman, Rise of the Tomb Raider, AC Unity, The Division (though I suspect this one may have some large drops), and even The Witcher 3 (without hairworks, admittedly), and a few others. It can be hard to tell what settings some of these benchmarks have used beyond the basics, so I've watched a few YouTube videos where the settings are clearly shown, with gameplay immediately after.

One game that I had entirely forgotten about, and which you didn't include in your list, is Metro: Last Light. That game clearly proves my original claim wrong (ie. that the GTX 1080 can comfortably handle 60fps 1440p on current games). This is a bit of an extreme example though, made for technology that didn't exist when the game was created. Expecting to max it out is a bit unreasonable, even if it doesn't change the fact that it disproves my point. Crysis 3 is in a bit of a similar position.

So my blanket statement was a bit too simple for its own good, rendering it technically wrong. For that I apologize. I do still feel as if it's generally sound though, even if it doesn't apply to every game out there.

I think this discussion might not be entirely fruitful until more people actually have the cards in their hands and we can establish better ground rules for the benchmarks. There's too much variance for anyone to agree on anything right now.

I managed to get a FTW for £580 before they increased the price.

I thnk psychologically I need something closer to £549 than £599 to jump in, so probably waiting on reviews of the cheaper custom coolers. Also want to see the prices for the 1070 next week. But with a 3440x1440 monitor the 1080 would be great, even though I've managed fine with a 970 before and just turned settings down, so I know I can live with a 1070 too

every game on that list is confirmed

I'm hoping these shipdate slippage rumors are false. With people having their EVGA orders charged and Gigabyte announcing a 7th release date, things are looking a little better.

And thus we are moving in circles, since I've personally witnessed games on your list played at a consistently high framerate (well above 60 fps) on max settings at 1440p. Let's wait for more people having the cards to see what the consensus is.

games have more than 1 area. as i edited, ive played every game on that list except hitman. i currently own every game on that list except hitman, DA:I, divison and ashes

It's definitely true for Caseking. They've confirmed to me that all orders (for their customers atleast) of the FTW have been delayed to the 28th.
I'm camping local Amazon since they haven't added any EVGA custom cards yet in the hopes of this just being a Caseking-exclusive problem. Ordering from EVGA themselves doesn't make sense at this point I reckon (plus they are out of stock anyway).

Just FYI

We have had Strix and FTW cards at around £590 preorder.

I've also been watching scan and the preorder prices have been bouncing up and down. There's just not enough stock, no real US price to go off as nothing is up yet. The cards I talked about being under £600 have been snatched up and now show currently unavailable.

Until this founders crap settles down and we get to see some US prices for non-ref, it's going to be madness. I can't remember such a time with this much interest and demand plus the founders crap and everyone is in the dark to how MSI and Asus etc will price their custom cards and if or how long they'll stick close to founders editions.

If MSI put a Gaming card on up at $700 then its going to be around 600 here. If they bypass the FE nonsense and put one up for $610 then UK retailers will have to follow it because even with shipping and tax added its only £530 for me or you to import one. Scan etc will have to sell them for around that price to not make it worth while for us to think about importing. Scan won't be sticking to £640. Everyone is running around screaming when nothing is announced yet, stock is abysmal.

Best now just looking is FTW at 599 ebuyer still active preorder

This was £590 a few days ago on ebuyer

The FTW was £597 at scan a few days ago for preorder, now its £640, they just put a daft number when its totally exhausted.

Hey guys, need some help / advice on my current rig. I'm definitely planning to upgrade to a 1080 card from my two 660Tis, but not sure what else I have to upgrade.

My rig:

CPU: Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs)
Mobo: Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3 socket 1155LGA
Memory: 16 GB DDR3 @ 665.1 MHz
PSU: 850W Thermaltake

What can I keep and what should I replace?

If you want to replace anything here you'll most likely need to replace everything but the PSU as it will stack onto each other - better CPU will require a different MB and a different memory type. 2600K is still a pretty good CPU so unless you're ready for a full platform rebuild you can just stay on it for some time.

Might want to overclock that cpu. If you'd rather just buy a new one, you're going to have to replace the mobo and RAM too. You should generally be fine with what you have though.

Maybe just replace the ram? Not to sure how much the clock speed will really matter tbh. You're fine otherwise

My rig never really seemed to perform well at max settings for most games, even after I got a second 660Ti's for SLI. So I'm worried the CPU / Mobo at least are being bottlenecked. But maybe that's due to the Ram? No idea honestly.

I had very close to your build except a i5-2500k and a single 560ti. Ended up doing a full rebuild. To be honest unless you get a new cooler and clock the CPU higher you're approaching bottleneck territory especially if you are considering VR.

Ah, yeah, definitely interested in VR down the line at least.

So what CPU / Mobo combos should I be looking at? Would prefer not to break the bank.

Not sure if this has been posted. Found it on the nowinstock website, so who knows how valid it is. Someone on here did say that EVGA charged their card today.
