Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Any idea when the Amazon EVGA orders are likely to ship?

There are a number of games in your list I haven't seen benchmarks for, so I'm going to have to take your word that they can't hold 60 fps on 1440p. Some others in this list I've seen multiple benchmarks for though, demonstrating that they can maintain a comfortable 60 fps. This includes Hitman, Rise of the Tomb Raider, AC Unity, The Division (though I suspect this one may have some large drops), and even The Witcher 3 (without hairworks, admittedly), and a few others. It can be hard to tell what settings some of these benchmarks have used beyond the basics, so I've watched a few YouTube videos where the settings are clearly shown, with gameplay immediately after.

'Max' settings is pretty clear though. When you start turning off bits and bobs to level performance, by definition, this isn't max settings any more. I own and have played all those games, and you aren't going to get a solid 60 in them by maxing out settings at 1440p.

The Division, for example, has fog and shadow settings, that when maxed out, will cripple any set-up. Turning down settings to maximise performance is a core aspect of PC gaming, and one of the benefits. It shouldn't be seen as a bad thing.

Is there anyway of being notified when the Asus strix is up for preorders? I'm on vacation and I can't stare at my phone all day :/

So I just keep refreshing this page? :(

You can set up browser/e-mail/SMS alerts (scroll down a bit). I think you need to make an account, though, but it's a painless process -- IIRC, you don't need to verify your e-mail address, so once you've signed up, you're good to go.

You do need to verify an email. Those text alerts are sometimes real late. I missed one earlier relying on that. Email seems to work quickly though.

Yet another German mini review of the Asus Strix 1080... (why always German damn it?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xS4RPj7IPGM

Didn't understand much since I sucked at German even 16 years ago when I took classes, but it seems to hold it's boost clock well, even when going over the it's factory OC settings, with increased powerlimit. Though it seems to lock when going over 2100Mhz.

Any German speaking kind soul that can give a quick summary?

I'd love to know if he says anything about the fan noise. It's at around 2000RPM in Witcher 3 so based on reviews on other sites, it's still loud but maybe he did a custom profile or something. Someone should try a custom profile.

Hey guys, need some help / advice on my current rig. I'm definitely planning to upgrade to a 1080 card from my two 660Tis, but not sure what else I have to upgrade.

My rig:

CPU: Sandy Bridge Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs)
Mobo: Gigabyte P67A-UD4-B3 socket 1155LGA
Memory: 16 GB DDR3 @ 665.1 MHz
PSU: 850W Thermaltake

What can I keep and what should I replace?

Is your RAM only DDR3 1333? Or is it faster RAM but XMP not enabled in the bios? What kind of cooler do you have for your CPU? Is it stock? Even on the crappy stock cooler you should be able to overclock to at least 4GHz.

I'd do a rebuild in the very near future based off of your config. Keep the PSU, but everything else will need to be replaced soon. Take a look at this vid, it should help a little.

I have a very similar build (i7 2600k, 16GB RAM) but upgraded to a GTX 970 last year. I know I'm going to need a whole new build soon, because if I want a new CPU and faster RAM I'll need a new Motherboard.

I really want to hold off until a single card is capable of maxed out 4k gaming though. The same way a new card will definitely max out the latest games at 1080p? That's what I want to wait for with regard to 4k.

Think we're getting close? Looks like the 1080 hits around 40fps with the Witcher 3 at 4k. Think the 1280 will be the card I'm looking for? 2018 is my current target for a new PC, being the likely date for TES VI.

There can be a fair bit of improvement going from DDR3-1333 going up to 1866 IIRC, maybe 2133 too but I don't remember if the improvement is as much over going from 1600 to 1866. Of course that only also matters if the game can actually make use of the bandwidth, might depend on how CPU heavy the game is too, don't remember the details.

Here's the version all the CPUs OC'd to 4.4GHz.

Depending on other factors unless he's using a monitor with a higher refresh rate than 60Hz the difference there is negligible to non-existant. Will change with VR but if you're not getting into that right away and holding off say a couple years you might as well wait until you're ready to build that PC with VR in mind.

Thats about it, really. Not much more was said/shown. Card crashed when trying to get it to 2100.

He didn't really say much about how he perceived it at 2000RPM, however when he overclocked it and set it to 70% he mentioned that it became loud.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. Only other thing worth pointing out is that he said the fans were quite loud at 70% but I guess that's to be expected.

E: nvm, I should refresh before posting~

Having an extreme case of deja vu. It's almost like I was doing this same thing last weekend, sitting around for hours reloading websites and hoping something would come out.

No way I would do that 2x in a row.

So it's assumed or fact that the Asus strix will be more powerful than the EVGA FTW?
We don't even have official clocks for the FTW yet, in theory FTW should provide more stable (over)clocks than Strix.
But that's all just pure speculation at this point, wait for the reviews.

btw, EVGA product manager apparently doesn't know anything about FTW delay as stated by Caseking/OCUK (the two shops appear to be related in some way, so that's maybe why they are apparently the only ones talking about this. I reserved a FTW at another shop on a prepayment basis just in case... sucks that most stores here don't offer a "we'll withdraw money once product is shipped" option)

So I got my current machine from that crazy HP prebuilt deal. The question is, how do I measure my current wattage so that I know if I can safely replace my 980 with the 1080? I know it's an increase of 15W, but I have no way to tell if it matters or not.

Delayed from what to what?

Open your case and check the PSU, if it is over 550W you are fine.

What do you mean with more powerful?

FTW has 10+2 phases vs Strix 8+2 and FTW has 8+8 pins vs Strix 8+6.

I don't think we have a review for FTW yet :).
I guess I mean by more powerful I mean the factory overclock. Not really interested in going much higher than that.

All these companies need to just give everyone a release date. Or at least open pre-order with an estimate of like 2 weeks. If it said ASUS Strix 1080 June 4th pre orders for estimated shipping of X no one would be mad, even if that estimated shipping was June 18th-July 4th. I just want a pre order at this point!

You can't pre-order Strix in US?
