Why tho? We dont actually know if it is the same trunks? He has blue hair.

Tbh ssj3 and 2 are so lame now. I wouldnt want trunks to obtain those.

They did SSJ3 dirty. Goku going SSJ3 for the first time in Z was one of the most glorious things to come out of that show. It still could have meant something. Blob vegeta brushed SSJ3 Gotenks aside like it was nothing.

I think it would make sense if Trunks got too comfortable after killing the androids and cell and relaxed with his training, thinking USSJ would be enough to take anyone on.

Sorry to ask, but how the heck does Mai fit in all this,
if it's future Trunks from cell saga?

No one knows.

I'm guessing either
Pilaf and co. made their wish to become younger at some point in Trunks' timeline before the androids killed Piccolo, or it'll just never really be explained.

There is no way Trunks slacked off, at worse he's only as strong as he was at the end of the Cell arc because he was busy helping rebuild or something.

We don't know yet.

I doubt Trunks slacked off too, but I can't see him getting that much stronger. In the seven years between the Cell and Buu Saga, only Vegeta and Goku surpassed Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, and the power different wasn't that over the top, and they literally did nothing but trained during that time. Super Saiyan 3 also seemed to require something extra since Vegeta never achieved it.

Yeah his hair looks great, I think it's not surprise they went for this style though.

They are incapable of portraying his old style with the schedule they're working with on Super.

But it looks better anyway, less "square haircut" and more organic, flowing.

Also, I really love the two new songs. The music is arguable even worse than the art in Super, which is really annoying, but these set the mood perfectly. While also having good art.

I think we're in for a treat next week.

Also, for those that don't know, Trunks' voice actor also voices him as kid Trunks.

Imagine all he had to endure, to be relevant and use his real voice again. I feel bad for the guy. (that also voices my avatar haha)

I'm sure Trunks will just be regular SSJ. But stronger than he was back when against Cell. Since yanno, apparently SSJ2 and SSJ3 are worthless anyway. No real barriers there to stop him.

Don't think they're gonna pull a Gohan and make him slack off.

he should at least be SS2 right? that's like perfected SS1.
cant remember off the top of my head if they still do the SS2 lightning effects when people transform

To celebrate my boi TORANKUSU coming back, I thought Id remind you all how hype his Funi Promo was back in the day.

Spoiler: It was hella hype

Wow wow wow. Look at that! Lmfao! You guys see the word trunks flashing???! Hahaha! Im cracking up right now. It was so seizure inducing.

People seem really upset about Trunks' hair. Personally I don't really care... maybe it just signifies he's older or they want to differentiate him from kid Trunks if they're going to be in scenes together.

Key17 says Toriyama was about to leave the Super project due to being highly dissatisfied in the quality.

FTrunks arc is supposedly the result of Toei trying hard to motivate Toriyama to stay on board.

Yikes.

Good, they have been fucking cheapo on everything. DB deserves the best of the best.

Quality of the anime? manga? What?

So toei picks out which arc toriyama has to do next? I always thought toriyama had the creative freedom to do what he wanted?

Toei depends on Toriyama. The appeal of Super is that he's writing it. If Toriyama leaves, Toei is screwed.

Got a source on that?

Well I don't have HIS source.

He said that on Kanzenshu forum.

He has been reliable and provided several verified "insider" information in the past.

There is no reason to believe he is lying given his track record but let's consider it rumor.

While I like the slice of life stories and think the action is decent, none of the arcs in super have been epic like many of the arcs in Dragonball and Dragonball Z. They all seem set up really quickly, with the twists and turns coming mainly in the form of So-and-so loses and/or gets beat down, with really quick resolutions. Like the freeza saga - freeza comes, people fight, goku powers up, freeza powers up, vegeta powers up, they kill freeza. Compared to the freeza arc of DBZ, where the entire reason they even met freeza was set up by 50-something episodes of the Vegeta saga, and the main focus villains kept shifting (from vegeta, to zarbon, to ginyu, to freeza) and the goal for each character changed numerous times.

It's just that previous arcs in DB and DBZ had way more plot and stuff going on. Everything in Super has felt short and to the point. That was actually main my criticism about GT as well - the Baby saga is actually fine to me because it has a long and complex set up, but Super 17 and the Evil Shenron stuff comes so fast. It's all about pumping out an impressive looking villain in as little time as possible.

The best way to describe the way I feel about Super, and half of GT, is that they feel just like the Dragonball Z movies. I hated every single Dragonball Z movie because they all rushed out a villain, did some meaningless fighting, then had someone miracle a win out of nowhere. I get that it's basically the same formula that DB and DBZ themselves used, but they seem to have none of the nuance. Toriyama being involved with Super was supposed to inject that nuance back into these otherwise ho-hum scenarios, but it hasn't happened yet.

I've been waiting almost 50 episodes for Super to get into a long, meandering, adventurous plot. If that rumor is true, I hope the trunks saga is more like that, with a good, hefty story. If I can sum the Trunks saga up in half a paragraph, then I'll feel cheated.

I figured it was for the latter.

I don't really mind all the same. He still looks like Trunks. In fact, I actually think it looks kinda awesome. Matches Bulma.

You could see the viewers express the same feelings so I don't doubt Toriyama would feel the same.

Holy shit Toei, what are you doing?

It's fucking Dragon Ball. I know you've got people working on One Piece Gold and other projects, but jesus christ, how can you screw up so hard you alienate Toriyama into almost leaving the show?

Just... god...

The most telling thing for me is that the next episode preview cheery music has been replaced with a much more intense track. I don't think I can get much more hyped for this.

Also damn Toei, do you guys hate money or something?

after Evolution and Super, AT's gonna get so pissed he's gonna make another damn manga.

Making a manga requires inhumane work conditions. I don't see why he would put himself through this again.

But I could simply see Toriyama and Toei agreeing on a seasonal anime, instead of this shit they've been producing.

Problem is, as "bad" as it is, Super makes a lot of bank, not only in merchandising, but they have NOTHING that comes close to Dragon Ball and One Piece on TV.

They don't want to lose their milking cow.

Toei isn't dumb.

I wonder what got akira toriyama paying attention to the anime now? I remember reading that AT didnt really watch his own anime in general.

I wonder if he is faking being upset just for us so we can have better animation quality <3

Why would he watch the anime version of his manga ?

He is watching Super because it's the official media for his new story. Just like he watched the movies. Remember he was praising the animators on that, he said he wrote a simple story and that he was impressed by the action, that they did a great job.

I'm assuming he expected something similar with the anime. Yeah......

.

As someone who watched the original Dragon Ball, it didn't have an 'epic' saga until King Piccolo came. The first story arc was gags, humor, and one-shots. Then came the first tournament arc which is very much like the Champa Saga with no stakes. The Red Ribbon Army was more serious, but still mostly gags, humor, and one-shot villains. The 22nd tournament was more serious with Tien and the Crane Hermit, but still lighthearted. Then Krillin died…

Super had a god who was going to destroy the world over pudding and the heroes could do nothing to stop him even with Super Saiyan God, and Frieza did destroy the Earth, killing everyone including baby Pan. It only didn't feel high-stakes because we knew the outcome because they're based on movies and even then Super's version is darker. Champa Saga was the only storyline that was completely lighthearted.

Also, I doubted Toriyama expected movie quality animation for a weekly anime. If he did, he was going to be disappointed no matter what Toei did. Also, the anime of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z has always been done on the cheap. It was low even for anime of that time period. Also Kei17 seems to be making their statement on an opinion or hunch. If you read it, they said 'surely Toriyama was ready to leave and Toei had to reel him back with Trunks', not that he was going to. Also, Toriyama being mad about Super was shown in the 30th Anniversary book, so this isn't new information.

You know epic doesn't mean "hardcore" or "serious," right? A comedy can be epic. Dragonball's first saga is arguably one of the most epic in the whole series. It was billed as a "mysterious adventure"

All of Dragonball has an epic tone. It shifted away from gags and comedy around the red ribbon saga, but it was all definitely epic.

And the 22nd tenkaichi budokai wasn't very light hearted. They broke Yamucha's legs violently. They planned to murder Goku in revenge for Tao Pai Pai. They were fighting a gang of assassins.
