With the performance numbers on this and the 1070, looks like it's time to get out of the 1080p world and move to 1440p... Recommendations? I built mine about a year and a half ago and use a 150 dollar ASUS IPS monitor. I'm thinking a few more bells and whistles this time. G-Sync is interesting...

I can't stand 3 fan designs, more fans more noisebut I really want to upgrade.
I can't be fucking arsed waiting any longer for the FTW cards especially if it isn't going to arrive till the end of the month. I've got headphones after all.

This really depends on the implementation. 3 fan designs can be quieter than 2 fan designs on high end cards since the fans can have lower RPMs.

Considered top tier. I've got a G1 980ti atm and it's rock solid.
Typical multi-GPU stuff. Works well in a few games, badly in some and not at all in others.
At least in the games it works in the frametime charts look decent.

Is there a general consensus regarding gpu manufacturers? My recent cards are EVGA's and I've previously had ASUS cards, both with no issues. I don't have any experience with Gigabyte or MSI.
I think all the major mobo manufacturers are considered rock solid.

FWIW, I've had 0 issues with my Gigabyte 970 or Z97 mobo. Wouldn't hesitate at all.
To be fair, it's generally better than this and they state as much. We're still on the initial launch driver for the card.
Except for the part where more fans = smaller fans which need higher RPM for the same air flow. Bigger slower fans is always better.

My MSI 970 gaming has been great, good cooler, quiet. I usually run it 1480mhz since sep 2014 and it's still just as good as new. If I go for a 1070 then I hope to get an MSI gaming again.
4K performance with SLI look really promising

I guess. If you're ok with ~1/2 of new releases only using one of these cards at launch and ~1/4 of new releases never supporting SLI/CF.

I've also had a great SLI experience with my 980s. All the negative seems to be a narrative that's taken hold. Maybe I've just been lucky for nearly 2 years.

It's not a US store. The only place that took preorders for it is Amazon. The only store guaranteed to receive any tomorrow is Newegg, which only has an auto notify option.

The dates guestimation from EVGA product manager, Jacob Freeman, are not the same as these. This launch will not be cut and dry. Sounds like you'll be lucky to receive it on that Monday.
I recommend avoiding auto OC software. AI Suite installed some nasty low level hooks that caused my Windows 10 machine to take a really long time to shutdown. The only fix was to reinstall Windows 10.
It also took some messing around with custom batch files to actually allow the installation since Windows 10 doesn't allow you to run an installer that calls other executables. The tool also failed to set a stable overclock. It did an okay job until it started pushing BCLK. At that point, it failed to revert the BCLK and I had to resort a manual overclock anyways.

Word is that it received a price bump, although no one knows for sure because Asus refuses to release any info. Who knows what's going on with it.

That was in Pascal's specs, NV have removed analogue outputs from the chip itself. DVI-D isn't any different to your standard HDMI 1.x so it will probably survive while there are still 1080p displays on the market.

nowinstock sent me a text message at 2am saying the Asus Strix 1080 was up for pre-order. I checked it this morning and they were all gone. Anyone here actually get one?

I think that was an error. No one else that was alerted saw a preorder anywhere.
My guess is $680ish.
