For the SC, yeah that's pretty much it. I'm sure they've tested enough cards to know their SC is going to be something they don't need to cherry pick for.

When you get to the FTW and above, you're paying for the extra BIOS, custom PCB that's a lot more robust, which MIGHT allow for a great overclock.

When it comes to using stuff like Afterburner or whatever to overclock your GPU, is it really quite a simple process like just booting up the application and moving some sliders around?

If so, I can see the point for the FTW, but not really for the SC edition...

Boost Clock: 1860 MHz

Base Clock: 1708 MHZ
Boost Clock: 1847 MHz

Non-SC
Base Clock: 1607 MHZ
Boost Clock: 1733 MHz

Launch MSI Afterburner/EVGA Precision X and adjust both clocks... I might be wrong...

Yes, which is a good reason why Nvidia locks some things down in the BIOS so people don't fry their cards moving graphical sliders and such.
 
Is it possible to set a custom resolution for games between 1440p and 4k? Say you can't reach 4k but have more than enough for 1440p

Yes, downsampling aka DSR for Nvidia cards is the easiest way. You can set it up in the Nvidia 3D settings.

Not so much for the FTW as pointed out multiple times before. It has a custom PCB and some features not present on the ref/SC. How much this will benefit overclocking remains to be seen.

Yes, as in it is as simple as moving around some sliders? When you say Nvidia, you mean the BIOS on Nvidia-manufactured cards? Sorry, the wording has me a bit confused.

Hopefully that isn't just for Newegg. I got in a G1 pre-order with Amazon very soon after the link went live. Theirs is the most reasonably priced (only $20 premium from MSRP), so I think I'll just go with them if they are first to launch.
 
Ok G1's are mos def in stock in the UK OCUK just started sending them too. UK folks keep an eye on Scan and Aria tomorrow me thinks if you want one.

Sorry, saying yes it's incredible and a GUI process to overclock. Then saying that's why we wind up seeing a voltage wall in BIOS so people don't fry their cards.

Thanks for the clarification! I guess I definitely won't go for the SC edition, then, unless it somehow manages to come out before everything else by a wide margin.

Don't think DSR will work if it's a 4k monitor :P
I've found the area where you setup a custom resolution in the control panel. Would adding that to the resolution list just add that options as a selectable resolution in games?

edit: Tested out 3200x1800 and it seems to work

They've only ever mentioned Newegg, so it's hard to tell. Not to mention this is the only AIB card that Newegg has had on their site to this point.
 
I'm still holding onto my FTW preorder on Amazon for now, but now that the clocks are out I'm curious about the G1. Is that a reference PCB with custom cooling?
 
i'm still sticking to the FTW due to EVGA lifetime warranty, though I was hoping it would have been a little higher clock wise, or at least what scan had it at.

Scan had it at

Core Clock:
1733 MHz
Boost Clock:
1873 MHz
 
Hype died down a lot the last couple of days and I've decided "Ahm oot". Will wait until the TI at the end of the year. I resisted a 980 ti purchase last year which makes it all a bit silly to give in a year later for marginal performance gains. Poor overclockability is the main sticking point here.

It's been a fun ride and look forward to all the discussion when people finally get their grubby hands on these custom AIB cards.

You're making a good call.
 
Regardless of how many power pins, power phases, and fans/watercooling are on your card, and which SKU you get from which manufacturer, I foresee maximum overclocks being ~2100mhz on golden chips. Same as FE; silicon lottery. Most people will probably sit around 1900-2000mhz.

With that said, people will probably eventually be able to unlock the 1250mV that is nVidia's hard limit, but I don't think that's safe or advisable for Pascal due to 16nm. Even then, we're probably only looking at another 150-200mhz. Not worth it to get an additional 5-10% performance at the very real risk of significantly reducing the longevity of your card.
 
When can I buy a Gigabyte 1080 Xtreme though?

The money is trying to jump out of my wallet and escape, I'm not sure how long I can hold it down.

Want to point out the FTW are also binned and guaranteed to hold the factory oc. Though in all likelihood, a non FTW would probably be able to hold it, too unless you have bad luck.

Hey, are you sure about this score? I am getting around 2816 on my 980 Ti overclocked. What's the rest of your system look like?

I am running:

i7 2600k @ 4.5 GHz
GTX 980 Ti @ 1500 MHz core 8000 MHz memory
G.Skill 16 GB DDR3 RAM @ 2133 CL9
Samsung 850 Pro SSD

I wasn't sure but I now I think I will definitely hold on to my card until Vega/1080 Ti.

Scan, aria and novatech have all gone insane with prices. All the cards are now over £600 and the gigabyte G1 is £630 - £70 more than Amazon. The founders editions are £680 there!

Clearly while stocks are low and demand is high they're going to fuck their customers over. They'll get away with it of course, but it'd really put me off using a store that takes such obvious advantage of the situation

I'll bet you that it does. In the US on Newegg. Unlike the Strix, Gigabyte has been pimping this launch every day on twitter and is doing a giveway to the first 100 orders. Not to mention its been the only AIB card listed on Newegg thus far.

Don't think so for any of those. The FTW is confirmed out to reviewers, but no idea on reviews. There's a shady youtube vid of strix benchmarks with no shot of the actual card. Nothing on the Zotac at all. Jaytwocents' MSI Gaming X review goes up tomorrow.
