Destiny: Rise of Iron Launches September 20th (PS4/XB1), lots of details leak

As far as I'm concerned, LFG is random MM. 6 randoms come together to play, then never meet again. Sometimes you're #TeamFirstTry, sometimes it takes a few wipes.

A server browser in game is the best option. It's essentially the same thing as implimenting LFG into the game.

Everything else in the game should have optional MM. No exceptions.

Dreadnaught was just sketches on a desk when the base game released.

I believe there was actually footage of the Dreadnaught in the pre-release footage, but it was clip that lasted a few seconds.

EDIT: Here's the picture from Pathways into Darkness:

Obviously the Dreadnaught wasn't promised, but the content for it certainly wasn't made from scratch, it looks like it was in the works for a while before being cut for whatever resaon.

If this is like TTK I'm in.

I need to find time and come back to the game and do the raid in hard mode and the new April Update stuff.

I think it was in the big Kotaku story from a while back. It was originally planned to be.

Didn't they release a trailer with a shot of Saturn and one area that looked similar to the Dreadnaught?

Here it is https://youtu.be/y2Jx5__c1lY?t=37s

I dont doubt they had material started for the Dreadnaught, even that it was something they wanted to do, but nowhere did they say "hey youre getting the Dreadnaught"

We didnt even know Oryx had a Dreadnaught.

Saturn was also shown in two trailers. iirc. but nothing was promised

Yeah that is very true.

That wasn't the Dreadnaught when that geometry was in that stage.

I've gone over this before, but this is generally Bungie's process since Halo 1, in rough order:

1)Make geometry first.
2)Decide where it goes in the world. Attach it to other completed geometry
3)Populate it with encounters.
4)Sometimes keep the geometry but re-art-pass it to fit it in it's new location.

At least one level in each game has been destined for one area, but end up being re-assigned elsewhere to another location and re-stitched.

a couple of examples:

Halo 2: Quarantine Zone was originally geometry made for Earth's Moon.
Halo 3: Cortana was originally the last half of Floodgate. This is also obvious to the loregeeks since the terminal room is a Covy Cruiser bridge room. (confirmed from bungie presentations that they split it apart so people wouldn't have to do too much Flood gameplay early in the game)

Halo 2: Forerunner Ship made it to the Geometry Completeish stage but they ran out of time to set up encounters so it was cut.

Lots of crazy stuff in the trailer.

Parts of the early tower design we have never been to.
A part of the dreadnaught we have never seen
A part of fallen territory / russia we have never seen
A part of venus we have never seen
A heavily retooled starting area
A shot of the Saturn introduction custscene
The Queens Brother (at the time called The Crow) on earth
The mercury introduction cutscene (originally the location you met Osiris) repurposed for the lighthouse intro in House of Wolves

Really crazy going back through destinys old material

Well, after the datamining found separate armors for the normal and hard mode raid, which we didn't get, idk. Bungie made a lot of stuff that wasn't used.

Mercury looks more like a hub that was scrapped due to the late changes to the oroginal, and they just reused it for the 9-0 trials prize :(

In regards to content that was never released, we can meet in the middle and say that this stuff existed-whether in geometry form or in concept-that they've shifted around and moved for different releases-but that specific stuff wasn't promised.

Except that one vidoc where they talked about meeting the Queens brother on Earth and it would be available through the phone app or something. That was clearly promised. I have still not met the Queens brother on earth.

Which I mean...it's Bungies process, probably not the best process when you plan on releasing content on a yearly basis because it gives the perception that they're reusing old stuff or cutting out old stuff for a future release.

Oh, totally. There's actually footage of Osiris in the Lighthouse, more specifically where the loot chest is in a pre-release video.

For those interested.

I went through a tonne of prerelease material a while back and put this together.

Destiny - 1 Year On, Looking back at cut content I used 2 reddit posts as talking points. They could have both been bullshit but I felt the had enough merit based on released material I could link to what they said.

and for those who missed it presssneakfuck Jason Schreier did an amazing semi post mortem at Kotaku back in October. The Messy, True Story Behind The Making Of Destiny

That aside some speculation is currently happening that Rise of Iron refers to a new Fallen House the House of Iron, forming after renegade Fallen unearth Iron Lord tombs. A reddit user "Soulrakk" pointed out that since launch their has been a Fallen Walker public event on the Moon and the Walkers name is

Noble Iron Walker

For reference the House of Winter on Venus have a

Did anyone snag the trailer before it was taken down?

Trailer was never up.

I saw this post on reddit earlier but I personally feel like that walker on the Moon just doesn't follow the proper naming that others do. It would be pretty weird for us to be following the story of both the Iron Lords AND the House of Iron, it might be get confusing.

Although a dope ass twist would be they're called House of Iron because of what they did to the Iron Lords.

YES

20th September is perfect for me!

Also I love that it's a light level increase. I can focus on the story, exclusive missions and reset raids once a week.

I realise that I stick to Destiny not because I love the game or because I'm addicted (haven't played much in a while), but because Raids are a great international chat room. Once a week, it's a great way to talk to new people.

tbh i'm glad the second screen stuff died in a fire. one of the worst trends in gaming there for a bit

That looks more like the Abyss from CE only with more lighting than Dreadnaught tho

I don't think it was ever going to be something that you were forced to unlock on a phone or anything, it seemed to just serve as notification for new stuff being unlocked.

But yeah, I agree. Every game having a companion app was a pain in the ass.

The opening section of Crota's End, yeah?

The lamps are a lot smaller than what's in that video. I absolutely think it's what eventually became the Dreadnaught, it just wasn't the Dreadnaught at that point in development.

Old Russia AGAIN?!?! Seriously?!?! Uggh. Yep this will officially be the first Destiny content I will be skipping entirely.

Likely. People also forget that Dark Below expired all vanilla items. House of Wolves retroactively powering up old content was an exception to the rule because it straddled a change in the direction of how further Destiny updates were going to happen.

Old gear being replaced was never the problem...the issue was year 2 made a lot of the end game content (2 raids, Prison of Elders, and changes to the loot drops in Nightfalls/Weekly) became obsolete and pointless with not much left for players to work through each week.

It must have sucked really hard if they felt more comfortable with the final release than with the original scrapped vision.

What was rumored to be wrong with it aside from rushing the player from location to location and enemy encounters?

God damn I need to max my guardians before this drops.

I'm so far behind, let myself slip behind :/

I hit 328 and I'm satisfied. I'm pretty bored with the current content, only jump on for Iron Banner. Obviously this varies, but I'm actually quite surprised that I was able to go from 315 to 328 by only playing IB.

Is this going to be The Taken King in price?

I sure hope not, but I would assume that yes it will be. I'm expecting a repeat of last fall's pricing structure and game editions.

My hope is that they charge $30 just to pacify the fanbase (myself included) who are not so patiently waiting for Destiny 2.

I think it was in the big Kotaku story from a while back. It was originally planned to be.

I'm pretty sure Luke Smith stated that development on The Taken King started before vanilla Destiny shipped, but I highly doubt it was ever being prepped in time for that launch.

Haven't played since Christmas, this is definitely making me get the itch again. Maybe I'll reinstall it, at least do some of the April Update content for a couple days before I uninstall again.
