Pokémon Sun & Moon | Info and speculation thread

So have we discusesed the idea of the strange souvenir being transferable to Sun/moon? It has a tiki esque design so I think it was clearly foreshadowing this regions theme but I wonder if it will actually do something in this gen

I imagine you can't since you need Bank to transfer.

I think there's gotta be someway to at least have Sun and Moon recognize that you have it in X/Y. It's definite foreshadowing to some Pokemon in Alola. Now, whether that's simply the new games somehow recognizing data from X/Y or an update to the Bank for even just "special item" transfers, which I think is likely, the Strange Souvenir is going to come into play in some fashion.

I really doubt it. It was just a fun little easter egg hinting at where the next region was going to be based on, don't read too much into it.

In the case of Rowlett's typing, maybe that berry that nullifies super effective Ice moves might help? Or maybe a sting Secret Ability? Rowlett's might also be saved by a change in typing, but it's looking like it'll turn part-Ground if it changes typing, keeping that 4x Ice Weakness.

Yeah, typing is only one part of the Pokemon. I remember laughing at Talonflame when its typing was first revealed, thinking it'd be the worst starting bird. When the game came out, its stats looked like garbage too. Then Gale Wings was found and we were all like "holy shit!"

Really hopping Lunala and Rowlet's final evo pull something similar!

thing is, Fire and Flying is a good offense combo

I don't think I can say the same thing for Grass and Flying, though I guess it could learn various powder moves.

It probably won't have very good stats being a starter, although starters seem to much better in gens were they introduce less pokemon.

But it's two hard to say definitively whether it'll be good or not until seeing it's move pool and hidden ability. Being an owl for instance, Rowlet has a good chance to get tinted lens, which would help out a lot since it has pretty meh offensive typings.

It would have been if Skiddo was faster, and if riding wasn't limited to specific areas.

Sure, I can see that. I'm all for finding new ways to use your Pokemon outside of battles, so I'm not necessarily against them expanding on it, just Masuda thinking that was fun as is.

Now if only he'd talk about how fun soaring is, I'd agree with him on that. :p

Today, during the Pokémon Elections, Masuda revealed that this month's Corocoro will reveal Magearna's new info and special move that will appear in Sun & Moon and in the movie. Maybe it leaks just before E3's coverage.

assuming it's the same move shown in the manga, it's the arm cannon thing

Maybe they gave light of ruin to it instead of AZ's Floette. The arm cannon kinda looks like a flower.

So Mega Magearna/Magearna Soul Forme/ whatever's actually going on with Magearna in Coro Coro, with further Pokémon and SuMo info being saved for the Treehouse maybe?

Sounds good to me, at any rate.

We might have a live short gameplay of Sun & Moon at the treehouse, showing something of the first route, how Rotomdex works and the regional bird in a wild battle (or maybe just battle a pikachu and no newpokémon reveal). That's my bet.

About Magearna, I don't know what to expect honestly.

Wouldn't be surprised to get the "Transfer Volcanion over to Sun/Moon to unlock Magearna" news in it.

You have very low expectations. Sun & Moon has significant presence

They're kicking off their whole E3 presence with Sun and Moon this year, outright shifting Zelda backwards. I'd be VERY surprised if they didn't actually reveal anything new.

For context, at E3 2013 they revealed:
Vivillon
Noivern
Skrelp
Clauncher
Scatterbug
Spewpa
Talonflame
Fairy Type
Sky Battles
Pokémon-Amie
Horde Battles
Rhyhorn Riding

RotomDex should double as an HM slave.

I believe someone brought up that maybe Rotom possesses other devices as you go through the game (boat, etc.) that would replace HMs.

I'm torn on the whole HM situation. They definitely need a rework, but I'm not sure getting rid of them completely is the right way.

The CoroCoro released shortly after also had Litleo, Flabebe, and the rivals.

That's right, yeah.

Basically, even if they don't reveal as much as they did last time, there's still a lot of room for them to reveal a lot of stuff.

Actually, quite a bit of that stuff came from a dev roundtable that we didn't see until after the fact. I wonder if the Treehouse stream will cover similar ground?

I think that HMs can still have a place in the game, but it's infuriating that you have to give up one of your four moves (which is already a small number) in order to achieve certain results in the overworld. Pokemon having a 5th spot reserved for HMs could be a good fix, but I'd personally love if every Pokemon capable of knowing an HM could just naturally perform them in the overworld. In order to maintain the pace of the game, performing these HMs would require you to have certain badges, similiar to the obedience of traded Pokemon.

Now that you brought it up though, I think Rotom possessing items is an even better idea! You could collect items, like a jackhammer (Smash) or flashlight (Flash), that Rotom could possess and assist you with.

Can't wait to soar and ride Pokemon forever

Just. Please. Stop teasing us. Rideable Arcanine. We need it.

Instead of a bike let me learn Pokemon Riding.

Let me level up soaring and riding to do more tricks and move faster!

Magearna definitely sprouts flowers from her arm. You can see it in her card and the movie trailer.

Signature move will probably be an arm cannon, as mentioned. It would be cute if all the preset moves have some kind of flower animation attached to them.

That would be quite cool, they should just go all out with the Rotom dex and do it.

Really Joe, you should request this as your tag, so you wouldn't have to post it.

I really wonder why are they going to release the first QR codes for Sun / Moon as soon as July... Could they have planned a demo or so something so the codes actually have some use from now until November?

Also, if we actually get to see the code, I bet people will start to reverse engineer it as soon as possible and have a QR generator as soon as the game releases.

Joe posted on Serebii.net:
Back in April, a new arcade game was announced called Pokémon Ga-Olé, which replaces the current Pokémon Tretta, is coming to Japan in July 2016. This arcade game has got new discs and on these discs is a special QR code. Previously, we didn't know what the QR code is for, however it is confirmed that these QR Codes are the first set of special Pokémon QR Codes that will be compatible with Pokémon Sun & Moon through the QR Scanner.

We'll see how they promote the QR codes in the west, because the arcade-thing sure isn't going to come here.

Would be hard to reverse engineer without having half of the transaction so-to-speak.

There will more than likely be a Sun/Moon edition New 3DS XL released alongside the game, right? I've always bought a new console with the games, and even though the 3DS is near the end of its life cycle, I'd still love to pick one up for this gen, too.

Was the ORAS datamine where we got all the Megas or just the new Mega Latis?

When the ORAS demo was datamined, we got almost EVERYTHING relevant to competitive battling: We got all the megas, Hoopa-Unbound, the way to unlock Prima Reversion. The only thing we didn't get was how to Mega Evolve Rayquaza.

Really? I thought that was when the game itself was datamined.

ORAS demo didn't arrive until 1 month before the official release (in some places it didn't arrive until the release itself), so don't expect one until summer is over at least. And yes, it will likely contain all the data just like ORAS.

About E3, this is the XY trailer at E3 2013. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bki3s5LDF1c

This is what we are going to get at minimum. A couple of pokémon, more zones, combat, and new mechanics.

I just want new Pokemon at E3 (preferably with their Sugimori art released around the same time).
