Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

Seems to be the Asus Strix tbh

The downside to the strix (and the reason I decided to pass on it) is god forbid something go wrong, you have to deal with Asus' support, which is quite literally, hell on earth. Good luck getting your RMA getting taken care of.

Their hardware is really good and they may well have the best card early on of the 1080s, but if something goes wrong, it's gonna be trouble trying to fix it.

arent they only like ~5% faster than the i5-6600K and i7-6700K for almost double the price too?

They are actually slower in current games than 6700k

And that was 8 core variant overclocked to 4500 Mhz which is beyond average so far

After watching Jayztwocents MSI 1080 review, that pretty much confirms to me that I need not to worry about buying a higher end card. When the time comes, I will just find the best value custom cooler card.

I just cancelled my FTW pre-order. I got an EVGA SC+ BP 980ti for cheap a few weeks back ($410) and was planning on selling it off when they got around to shipping the FTW. Until we have more of these in the wild and more data, I'm in no rush.

In fact, at this point it's more likely I skip the 1080 and wait until whatever comes next, hopefully there's more competition at this price bracket in another year. I'm satisfied with the purchase I did make, but for all the hype I had going into this I can't help but be a bit bummed out.

If you have a 980ti and want to save money, you do not need a 1080. I have a 670 and have a damn good reason to upgrade. You're probably looking at a 1080ti at minimum.

In about 30 minutes I'm heading to Fry's. Doubt they will have anything there but I want to check out monitors anyway. If I'm staring face to face with this 1080 beast I pray I can have the strength needed to do what is right. What right is, is anyone's guess.

My EVGA 1080 FE is here and it's beautiful :) I've only tried Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3, but both are running at 80+ FPS with everything maxed!

even with GameWorks on for Arkham Knight?...haven't seen any 1080/1070 benchmarks enable those

(seen some do it for Witcher 3...at least the HairWorks)

Lol, clearly this wasn't a value based decision, I initially was upgrading from a 7970 3GB.

The circumstance was me having some quality gaming time this summer that started close to a month ago (and effectively goes to zero in September because of work craziness). I* wanted the best card available, I only got the 980ti to bridge the gap.

Even with that reckless mindset I can't justify the 1080 based on how things are stacking up. So yeah, 1080ti or the red equivalent is my plan now.

lol damn

I'll get that newegg warranty and call it a day

It won't matter. Get a Classified if you're trying to throw away money, because it will definitely be overpriced.

You must be unfamiliar with custom loops, $50 extra on a GPU is the least of your monetary worries. Fittings alone can add $100 based on the company you choose. All said and done you are looking at $300-400 minimum for a full custom loop. There is no point spending that kind of money to cool a reference GPU.

That is a wise choice. At that point however, you're paying the same price as the gaming X, for a slightly marginal performance upgrade. Any price advantage for the strix is totally negated by that point.

Dumb question, but all these cards that are coming out right now are those Founder Edition thing? As soon as that ends they're all going to be the mid to high 500 range? Or am I mistaken?

Sorry of this is the wrong place to ask this, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

The GTX 1070 is supposed to come out tomorrow and it isn't listed anywhere. Does anyone happen to know which websites I'm going to have to sit on and at what time, so I can get a chance at getting one?

Founder's Edition cards are all $699, and are clearly marked. Non-FE cards range from $600 to $720, though many are falling in the $620-660 range.

The non FE cards cost less but none less than $50 than the FE(of whats available right now). So 650 - 750 so far. Eventually you'll see $600 cards trickle out

none of them will be mid to high $500 range...MSRP is $600 for the partner cards

6AM PDT, 14:00 BST, 15:00 CST is when the card officially launches and becomes available to purchase. Last time some websites put products up before the exact launch time so it's pretty much a crap shoot. Some stores will have some stock, others won't, don't expect to see anything but Founder's Edition cards although anything is possible.

I'm pretty much dead set on getting whatever Amazon puts up. Fingers crossed. Thanks a lot for the info.

the warranty they offered is only $6 so I think the numbers you have may be off?

2 year repair coverage is $60 unless you're talking about something different.

I have newegg premier so when I purchase certain equipment, I am offered extra warranty for $6 depending on how much the item is.

Even though, for me to not have coilwhine and be the top dog so far in terms of OC, Asus seems worth it despite their CS

Great, what resolution?

is this will gameworks fully enabled and what resolution?

1080p, with GameWorks on. Mind you, I just tried for a few minutes, gliding around the open-world Gotham. I don't know if there are rougher spots further down the road, since I'm only about two hours into the game.

As for Witcher 3, I'm not using HairWorks. I honestly don't like how Geralt's hair looks with them turned on.

I think it's newegg changing inventory status on their end. I highly doubt they went in stock because I been on the page with auto refresh the whole time and nothing popped

that's because it didn't actually go in stock
Ah, so maybe ETA of 6/13 is actually going to be the day after it goes on sale.

Are there any Gigabyte G1 reviews? I'm about to cancel my FTW preorder, fed up of the bullshit and OCUK making interest off my money! Does the G1 stay cool?

I'm playing through that again now and realized hairworks looks like shit on Geralt. I believe there's a mod out there that lets you turn it on for everything but him, which I need to look into. Not sure how big of a performance hit it is, though. Running it at 4k with my Titan Xs, I don't have many frames to spare.

The nowinstock site brought a few of the 1080 opportunities to my attention. Their alarms didn't work for me, but I left it open when I was at work and it was actually decent about picking up the windows where there was stock.

Mind you most of those windows were less then 5 or 10 minutes, but I'm assuming most people who got those were running some kind of script or using a similar site (or watching GAF closely). I mean the times that the products went up almost never followed any logic from what I saw, so it's either that or there are a fair amount of people refreshing multiple sites for hours at a time (I mean...I'm not judging, I've been there, but yeah :D )

The ones going up right now are just the re-lists from voided/cancelled orders, so they're going to go up in very small spurts just like the EVGA SC yesterday. The bulk of their order sold between 1230 and 130.

Most likely the case, but they have been staying up for a good few minutes each time. I'm wondering if it's not a case of Newegg getting them shipped in separate batches or they are just taking time to process them into their system.

By the way, is my order pretty much guaranteed with Newegg if they process payment?

720 is a bit much especially without shipping

No sales tax, though, which is nice if you are in a place that typically gets charged sales tax by Amazon and other sites.

Yeah, it got canceled and didn't process. Damn I'm not happy with this launch at all.

Yeah. I tried ordering two with two different accounts earlier 'cause I want SLI. They had sold out, they cancelled one of my orders 'cause they apparently have a smart enough system to catch I was trying to get around their limit. They had more up for sale after they cancelled mine. Then it sold out again. I then cancelled my other order since I have no interest in just one, and they immediately had more for sale, as if my cancelling my single order immediately put one up for sale again.

Where'd you order from?

Newegg. The MSI card went up for a minute, paid with PayPal, then got rejected because it was out of stock in between me adding it to my cart and then paying for it.

They notified me over email, even though it looked like it was processing after I paid.

I've lost so many deals due to that.

Yep. This is EXACTLY what happened with me yesterday. They kept them up too long and voided a ton of orders a few minutes after they were placed. It's really not a cool thing to do, though I can't think of how else you do it.

The launch has been a cluster, but no different than the rest. It's always a fierce battle to try and get a new release card the first few weeks they come out. Very akin to a console launch.
