Yes.

Why would they make a deal?

Microsoft paid $50 million for the GTAIV expansions in 2008. I don't see Sony paying a price that would be much more than that for a full game in 2016.

Sony already made a deal back in 2006 when they gave L.A Noire to Rockstar Games and wouldn't pursue the costs incurred for development of L.A Noire prior to that, which was in the excess of supposedly $20 million+ that they had to write off, in exchange for a franchise exclusive from Rockstar. That exclusive was supposed to be Agent. Agent still hasn't materialized so without knowing what other deals the 2 could of had, it seems Rockstar still owes Sony a exclusive title.

Yea I heard that back in the day as well. But man that's a lot of money for two DLC's that eventually came to the PS3.

Yeah but from that deal came the megaton where Peter Moore announced on Microsoft's stage Grand Theft Auto IV was coming and it was coming to Xbox 360 with exclusive content. I mean it was HUGE news at the time and MS rode it for the next 2 years including the following E3s and likely helped move a few 360 units. lol

I dunno. Even Jack Tretton didn't know wtf was going with Agent. I think Take Two squashed whatever previous agreement R* and Sony had.

PS4 won NPD in May, but Sony didnt make a statement

I wonder if their silence in the past two NPD's despite winning are related to NEO

Perhaps they're worried it's started to look like they're rubbing it in. They might want to avoid the 'arrogant Sony is back' memes.

But what if it's really good?

I highly doubt it will. I expect a high amount of cheese. I see B tier developer's get to make these types of games not important AAA developer's. Also I don't see Sucker Punch investing so much in motion capture equipment for a Spiderman game.

It's a nightmare before we know a thing about it? Did you say the same about batman when it was announced?

I am not a Spiderman fan and I love Sucker Punch games and I don't want to wait 4 years for their next game. Yes I did say the same about Batman and I kept saying it up until the reviews and player experiences. I love the Batman franchise a doing about Rocksteady previous work I didn't think it will do the franchise justice. I have been far more critical with Batman than Spiderman.

That Crash thread is embarrassing.

"I have no interest in this but I really, really hope the people who want this do not get what they want! Plzzzzzz let this be true! lol"

Oh I agree. That definitely helped change the tides back then.

You're late.

The Sucker Punch rumor has already been shot down by Shinobi and Kagari. It seems that Insomniac is doing it. At the very least, there does seem to be a Spiderman game coming.

Um... it's pretty much confirmed that it will be insomniac making the spiderman game.

so we're thinking Rockstar owe's Sony a timed exclusive?

We don't 'think' they do - we know that Rockstar owes Sony something. Agent was originally a form of contractual compensation for the sunk cost Sony had put in into LA Noire's development before Rockstar picked up the tab & let Sony off the hook for that game.

People forget, but for many of the initial years of its life, LA Noire had been funded by Sony, to be published by Sony. Rockstar came in later & paid for the publishing rights once Sony sought a buyer cause they didn't want to continue. It was a pretty heft investment Sony had put in by that point.

I think so, if the agreement from L.A Noire still stands. I'm not confident it'll be the new Red Dead though.

I don't think Sony would be willing to look the other way on a multi-million dollar agreement that they had gotten. And I don't think Sony would allow Rockstar the ability to buy their way out of it. A deal like that is worth a heck of a lot more to see Rockstar fulfill than to see them pay their way out of it. The fact that we have never heard of these two heading into a legal dispute over it means that its definitely being handled another way.

It's GameFAQs-levels of obnoxious behaviour.

Thing is, all those people treating that news like it's a massive troll towards Crash fans are looking at it the wrong way. The smart money's on that Skylanders shit serving as some sort of tie-in to the full-fledged platformer that's on the way, especially since it's supposedly PS4-exclusive. It's the 20th anniversary of Crash after all, so such an occasion is going to be 'celebrated' in more than one way.

Insomniac is a great developer who can easily make it great......You not liking spiderman is fair, but doesn't mean the game will be bad.,

Yup.

Speaking of cameras, call it a hunch, but I think the topic of 'camera angles' & perspective is going to become a big topic come next week here on GAF.

Oh god I would kill for a GOW with controllable camera, it would scratch my Gaiden itch so much, fingers crossed.

Fixed camera has to go, its like playing games from last decade.

Apparently Sony got the better end of the deal since Rockstar ended up investing more money than Sony every did into L.A Noire's development. lol

It's funny just looking up some of this information, like Rockstar had planned a big E3 stage presentation (likely at Sony's conference) for L.A Noire in 2010 but backed out at the last minute because of increasing frustrations with Team Bondi and their management of the game.

Fix camera don't mean much .
Back in the day we had a GOW dev saying still have to render everything (because of camera angles )
So it's not some trick they can use to get better gfx.

The camera does move a lot so that kind of makes sense and now that you mention it I am slowly recalling them talking about this in how they incredibly built and pulled off those titans despite such incredible detail even close up and multiple ones having to interact at the same time, though I figured it might help for keeping the framerate while keeping their graphics level. Now that you mention it though, I had indeed forgotten about this, it's been a while since the last big God of War discussion.

So maybe the (timed) exclusive game is LA Noir 2 :P

Guys, hear me out.

WHAT IF this is part of a licensing deal with Sony. Again, this would be great promo either way since it's a genuinely popular franchise. You'd be introducing a whole new young generation to Crash who would then very likely want to buy the new game. It's sort of like a different version of the
Uncharted 4
thing.

If you have a Crash game coming out sometime in 2017, it would make perfect sense to have something like Skylanders promoting it in October. It'd make perfect sense. Hell even in terms of business it diplomatically makes sense. As a sort of sendoff if you know what I mean.

People are probably gonna shit on it but it's likely to do very well

Looks like Sony got the bombs. I hope Microsoft leaves no stone unturned as well.

Microsoft can't compete with Sony by now. We all know the gap would only be bigger with time since MS has fewer first party, less partnerships, worse indie relationship and zero support from japanese developers.

It's possible. The fact that Crash is apparently exclusive to the PS4 version of Skylanders makes this theory seem somewhat plausible.

I always thought it was 'payed back' with the GTAV marketing deal

God I hope not but I think that might be one IP they just wash their hands of and let go. The main focus of that game was Team Bondi's facial capture technology and the farce with the management with that studio and Rockstar having to save it was not a good project it seems for Rockstar. lol

It's through Rockstar's constant marketing the game managed to move as many copies as it did.

I'd be a little surprised if Housemarque don't show up with their Eugene Jarvis project. Normally I'd expect them to hold off until Gamescom being European, but I can see bringing such a legendary figure onstage in his home country being just the sort of fan-service play Sony like to pull.

That project + Matterfall would be nice surprises.

And it's pretty damn suspicious that Crash didn't appear in THPS5 due to "timing and rights issues" yet other Acti franchises did like the Skylanders, King's Quest and even TMNT.
