Overwatch has developed quite a fan art following....

Tsuaii´s D.Va. He is my fav artist.

Wow, it actually looks exactly like the character in every way, unlike almost every other piece of Overwatch fan art that is based on a female hero.
Eh, eyes are a bit off. To be fair I don't think I've seen anyone nail her face, even if that isn't exactly the purpose of fan art. It does get a little grating at times though yeah.

What I want to know...is why these...barbarians are drawing the great D. Va consuming Nacho Cheese flavor Doritos instead of the superior Cool Ranch. Because Cool Ranch will always be the best.
im kidding I'm kidding...mostly :P

Seriously though, this thread is aces with all the wonderful art in here and I'm seeing so many styles to portray the characters, I love it!!

Great art but the double standard around rule 63 tropes bugs me. If the artist had any balls Junkrat would be flat chested and Roadhog would be grotesque and enormous.

I mean you're right in that the body types aren't a one to one match with their male counterparts (though what argument is there that R63 Junkrat should be flat or busty?) but what an oddly aggressive statement? The artist wasn't trying to be "brave", just draw what they wanted. "You didn't draw it the way I wanted you to so fuck you!" ??????

I think Not's just venting frustration over this tendency, which is very common.

I mean the artist drew what he wanted but the fact that most artists just happen to want massive tits and tiny waists in any and all situations is itself kind of depressing. Blizzard went out of their way to create a diverse and inclusive cast to combat these trends, you'd think more people, particularly fans, would try follow the spirit of these principles.

Yes. Most of the time this is due to artists pigeonholing themselves into getting good at drawing one kind of body and face.

maybe people have to come to terms with the idea that this body type is what resonates with more people, and given this is all fanart certain liberties are to be expected?

and given that it isn't a 1 to 1 recreation (and changing gender is a BIG deviation already), there is objectionably no difference between more idealized body vs "diverse" body types.

and at some point it starts to come off as "common" is almost synonymous with "bad".

Knew I shouldn't have used the term "balls." Debated it.

You're projecting aggression onto the post.

Everything said in that post was true, so take umbrage with reality instead

I think many artists are really in love with the characters and it shows.

At the same time it's a good way for them to expose their art to a wider array of people who are interested in this super popular game and exposition is really 99% of artists need desperately.
