Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

there is no hard date yet...there have been some released sporadically on the various sites...you can check NowInStock to see the list and when each are in stock/on pre-order

so far the only non-FE that's not in that $650-$700 range is the MSI Gaming X...the rest have been in the $620-$680 range

which did you order?

Oh, so they're all out of stock...I'm guessing that's going to be the case for a hot minute?

Damn, I'm actually surprised how much better Project Cars and American Truck Simulator run in VR with my new 1080 compared to my 970. That's just raw horsepower, neither of those games do the viewport stuff yet.ATS especially went from occasionally chugging on the lowest settings to being smooth most of the time on high settings.

Yep thats all.

Everything below the FTW is a reference board, and I don't think it matters much.

Thanks guys. I'm thinking I might put a backorder in for the acx 3.0 on NCIX. Which are priced at $830 instead of the $1130 locally. Anyone had any experience with them (especially shipping overseas), and do they charge straight away or could I essentially get a preorder in and then pounce on an Amazon deal if it pops up?

Got my MSI Gaming X installed and running! Only tried a bit of The Witcher 3 in the new expansion, but my frame rate is pretty much double or more coming from my GTX 970 SC. Very pleased so far.

Damn, DOOM is going upwards of 200 FPS in 1080p with this thing. Crazy.

Did some overclocking. Seems my G1 tops out at around 2063 MHz. I was actually stable at 2100 MHz in some benchmarks like Unigine but The Witcher 3 showed tiny artifacts that randomly flash on the screen (still didn't crash though oddly enough).

1080 FTW isn't going to ship in July wont it? I am in serious doubt I get mine before steam sale.
Probably, atleast outside of US.
Wouldn't surprise me. It's the 970/980 launch all over again. Well, 970 mainly.
It's kinda funny, I didn't follow 970 launch nearly as closely as this one and I could leisurely order the card I wanted from a large selection of different models after reading reviews for a bunch of partner cards. Arrived two days later.

This time around: no partner card reviews at launch at all, absolutely no stock in sight, most will be shipped atleast three or four weeks after ordering.

Guess I'm not getting my EVGA 1080 ACX from Amazon this weekend. Bah, humbug. Did ANYONE get their ACX?

What can I do with no graphics card? I'm still gonna build my desktop this weekend. Missed a deal on my monitor too. Whatever. This really brought me down.

Hmmm what the hell is the Tesla P100 listed in their charts? is this just speculation or I've missed something?
That's the full chip Nvidia announced a while ago. Not really relevant for gaming use, I think it was focused on deep learning application etc.

Oh so it's a thing though? Damn those are some monster specs nonetheless. As much video ram as I have for my system memory lol.

Caseking has the Gigabyte 1080 G1 in stock. was suprised that they have them already in stock, costs €799 though.
Got a 980TI by MSI, seen that the boost would be like 20 % if I would upgrade, is it more wise to wait for a price drop?

Gigabyte G1 was £559 at Amazon before everyone put the prices up. So it should be at least £50 below FE prices. In euros that'd be about €710. Current average price is around £600 (€760). So €799 is quite a high premium but it's a sellers market right now.

Oh okay, thanks for the info, have to watch the market then how the prices will develop.

forgot to say this g1 is the only card i've ever had problems installing, it's a tiny bit longer than my titan and it appears to sit pretty much on top of my sata ports, was a bit of a fiddle getting it in, does fit though just quite tight

loving these new temps though, older less intensive games can be played at 4k with the card below 50c :)

Not that you need the frames that high but that seems low for a gtx 1080 no?

i play it at 144hz and just use the in game limiter (display based) which limits to 153fps for whatever reason, the temperature was the most important thing in that sequence for me

just checked ARMA 3 4K benchmarks and it runs at 40 FPS. its been 3 years since the games release and 40 FPS is what the GTX 1080 can do.. that's so disappointing.

You've got it backwards. The ARMA developers set the hardware bar so high that they expected graphics cards to play catch-up for years. That's not the card's fault. While there may be a max setting that limits how far you can push things when you play a game, there's no such limit when you develop a game. Developers are free to push things as far as they like, even to unreasonable levels. Just look at Metro: Last Light, a game that knew full well that nothing on the market would be able to take advantage of all its settings for a while. Lo and behold, it's also a game where the 1080 struggles. Go figure.

My G1 1080 just turned up in a massive box. How am I supposed to sneak it into the house surreptitiously in such a big box?

Anyway, that's tomorrow morning sorted.

Im just sitting here waiting on the TI version.

Got my acx 3.0 yesterday. Finished my first try at Overclocking it. Seems fine up to speeds of 2063 and +500 on memory. Anything at 2075 or higher will crash the driver.

What do your temps look like after long gaming sessions? I was getting 2114 playing Doom, but the longer I game, past an hour, the temps start to get into the 80s. It'll sit at 72 for a while, 74, then crawls into the 80s.

I'm using a custom fan curve that goes to 80% above 70 and hitting 74 at most but only did about an hour of benchmarks for OCing. I might lower the fan curve a bit if it doesn't affect the boost speed much.

You might want to check your case airflow, cause it could be that your ambient temp goes up a lot causing the increase on your graphics card after a while.

OK that's good to know, thanks. I'm using four fans. Two drawing air in the front, one drawing out the back, and one drawing out the top. I have space for one more out of the top. I have a P400, so maybe my case is too small in general... My motherboard temp is 43 during gameplay, PCH 53

Would getting an all-in-one water cooling for my cpu help? Something like what Corsair offers in the hydro series? I'm even considering an HG10 when they offer it for the 1080. Not sure what else to do.

well that was a dull unboxing. My MSI 970 gaming had a stupid mouse mat - this had nothing. Oddly, there was a thin box on top of the main foam section with the GPU in. The box was mostly empty - there was a thin booklet of instructions, and a paper CD wallet which was empty.. oh well.

Yeah...haven't really seen any of the non-FE 1080s have any special packaging or anything. They've mostly all been the same "black box with a manual and CD on top of the card" setup.

The Strix has a couple velcro straps for cable management I think...only thing I've seen that's a type of bonus.

The best we've seen is the Gigabyte Extreme, I believe. EVGA SC was barren.

true...but I just meant of what's been released so far they all are about the same as far as the packaging

and I expect that Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming to have a flashy price to match the flashy packaging...lol

181xx in 3DMark Fire strike. Can't remember the last two digits. According to afterburner, it was clocking up to 1987 max out of the box with no changes made. Max temperature 69c but usually around 66c at load. Fans are audible but not noisy.

Going to get a few extra fans for my case in preparation for getting my 1080 in August. I'm currently using my iGPU in my Skylake 6700K and noticed that one of my core's temperatures went as high as 81C under load. It was doing some real intensive CPU and GPU work though. It's at around 35C idle but one of my 5 fans in my In-Win GR-One case isn't working, otherwise it would be lower.

Going to replace the broken one, add another one at the top and two at the bottom. Will make my case as cool as a cucumber. :oD

What was the graphics score?
