I want to see an in-game comparison of the costume instead of an in-game compared to a cutscene. Well, not that I think the Japanese in-game version was modified like the Western one was, 'cause that's obviously not the case.

Change to Tsubasa's wedding outfit from the latest Itsuki trailer:

Left is the new version.
That looks like bug armor from Xenoblade Chronicles X.....christ, I'm not even upset with the concept of changing things during localization but this game is just baffling. Going forward I really wish they'd leave these things with Atlus or XSeed. Like for fucks sake, they covered up her armpits!!!! I'm cracking up at the thought of this game being a step away from an M rating due to armpits.

Maybe it's an ESRB thing? They want a T-Rating, but the ESRB told them there's "too much skin" and it somehow means an M-Rating.
ESRB are finicky as fuck. Dead fish in Uncharted almost got them an M-Rating. R. Mika's buttslap almost got them an M-Rating. This could be another possibility.

I do have another idea but I'm afraid I'll get banned if I say it.

Okay, I don't care too much about/can mostly ignore most of the changes, but this one just looks awful. I hate the whole "lazy devs" thing, but if you're gonna make a change to that outfit, just recoloring her skin is the laziest and worst looking thing I can think of.

There are plenty of games that show way more skin and have a T rating.

Visible armpits and cleavage != an M rating. Neptunia VII got away with FAR more and retained a T.

We don't know what else there is. I mean the Japanese do but considering how poorly it sold, the info is sparse.
I'm just guessing because this is really strange.

Again:
What the hell is going on. After actually paying attention after seeing that pic, this is Tsubasa from her own trailer, complete with boob physics:
WHAT IS GOING ON. I literally have no idea anymore.
1. Aversa has her cleavage blocked by mysterious fog in a cutscene. Fully visible in-game.
2. Tsubasa's swimsuit is changed during a story important cutscene to a youthful, "hip" costume. Animations change accordingly. She still has her swimsuit on in various moments.

There've been other stuff, but "seemingly inconsistent" is the phrase here.

Plus, as has been compared a hundred times, Persona 4: Dancing All Night is a decent comparison to this game, which has revealing costumes, and it's rated T.

This makes it look like the skin below her neck is bleached white. This is ridiculous. It looks like she's wearing a wedding dress over a skin-tight swimsuit. :/

People here (who are fluent enough in Japanese) have played through the game. No guessing necessary, it wouldn't make the edits we've already seen any less ridiculous.

Well that looks stupid. Nintendo, come on. We're not children. This change doesn't even make any sense. It was just a semi-low cut dress. It wasn't even that low or out of the ordinary.

They're throwing darts at a board, kind of like Andamiro does when choosing difficulties for stepcharts.

It's really a shame. The game looks fun, but this release can go straight to hell.

This is getting embarrassing at this point.

Can't wait to pick up this game for half price a week after launch because of how bad it's gonna bomb.

The sad thing is, no matter how badly it does, Nintendo won't care, they can eat the cost. I don't see any viable way to send a message.

Maybe if no one buys the NX.

Yep.

NoA continues to be a complete fucking joke led by a moron who has no idea what his customers want. It is so, so frustrating seeing stuff like this and then Reggie just acts like everything is perfect.

They'll point to this and say "this is why we don't localize all those other games you all want." They'll make it our fault.

I dunno, this has pretty much completely turned around for me at this point. Before I was irked that these changes were made for seemingly no real reason, or at least not a discernible one, but the changes are so extensive and inconsistent that it makes the situation really interesting. Like, who knows what else they've changed? How they changed it? It'll be amusing going through the game, looking at certain things and wondering "Did the Japanese version look like this or not?"

I don't understand what the hell they're doing. I've actually thought a number of the changes looked pretty solid, even though I think doing them was weird.

But there is hardly anything scandalous about the right-hand outfit. If anything, if I was told to pick a change, I might make the dress longer in the front and get rid of the thigh/legging view, but really, it's fine.

The new one looks awful.

The level of inconsistency in these changes is just baffling. They removed the swimsuit from a part but let them in for others?

Also the changes for the wedding outfit are comical level bad. I mean seriously, they coloured her skin white but for other occasions they created complete new outfits?

Good desicion from me in the end to cancel my pre-order.

Swimsuits being risque is fine, but anything else is bad!

How did that change even get approval?

That is one of the best examples that I have ever seen of "lazy devs" being true. There is no artistry or thought put into that change. It looks like butts.

I'm still getting the game. This really isn't anything to get angry over. The gameplay should still be good.

Still, it is baffling. Maybe we'll get an anonymous story after release?

Couldn't disagree with you more. This is more than perfectly acceptable to get angry over. And it continues a precedence that is getting seemingly worse and worse in Nintendo titles.

When has this much effort gone into removing anything remotely risque in a T rated game?

Legitimately curious.
Probably random examples in the PS1/2 days. We have the weirdness of removing all crosses from La Pucelle in order to not avoid some religious people (or maybe more likely a specific religious person at the company or investing in it or whatever.)

Christ, I think some asshole at NoA just has it out for the game. That looks horrible and serves no purpose at all. And everything is so incredibly inconsistent.

I'm glad I'm not buying this. I can't support anything they've done to this game.

I hope that Atlus never wastes their time working with Nintendo again. I refuse to buy anything that NoA touches like this.

Longshot, but: are some of these outfits based on real-life outfits? And that the changes are to avoid infringing image rights in the West or having to pay for those rights?

Actually it's funny.

I'm having a similar feeling. I had no interest in the game and have spoken against it openly before, but all these changes have me really interested. Even if I don't end up playing it, I really want to see an extensive look into what was changed. Really fascinating stuff.

It's clearly Nintendo. No point trying to say maybe there's an external influence. There isn't.

For the most part, I don't understand the point of it but okay I'll accept it. This latest one though is just like "whaaaat." It's like someone at Nintendo hates this game so they're making these decisions ust to fuck with everyone.

I'm literally on the edge of cancelling my SE pre-order and just going with the standard version. Honestly, I'd probably cancel the standard version as well, if I wasn't already getting it for cheap thanks to a 30% off deal.

This is beyond frustrating. If Nintendo wants to continue treating me like a child, they can enjoy their lost sale. It's a damn shame, as this was one of my most hyped games for a while, even after the gameplay was revealed to be something entirely different than what I was expecting.

There is another possible explanation - that they were actually going for an E10 for some bizarre reason but decided to settle for a T.

I don't like when they change stuff for other regions, but i can't really say no for an WiiU rpg, plus since the game seems to be set in tokyo and i happen to be heading there when the game comes out it should be interesting to play it once i get back.

Yeah I'm about close to doing the same I'm praying that the NX is region free I'm sick of dealing with this bullshit.

That doesn't explain why revealing costumes were kept.

That's what I mean - they were doing changes to go for a lower rating then changed their mind partway through and settled for a T, leaving some of the costumes unchanged.
