Mass shooting in France--"We stand with the French people, we love you France!"

Mass shooting in the United States--"America is a horrible place and you are all horrible people!"

Thanks, world.

It was only guy on here saying that.

But the perception will be different. Roughly 30 people a day are murdered with guns in America. In France it's about 30 a year.

Honestly, when we hear about shootings in America, it's at the point now where we're like, "Oh, another one. Business as usual then."

To be fair here mass shootings in America are all to common and the 'mass shooting' in France was a terrorist incident.

It might be turn out that this is a terrorist attack too but so far people just assumed it was another crazy with a solo agenda.

And the last terrorist attack was done with legally purchased assault rifles.

America goes out of its way to make it easy for people to commit mass murder.

We can't stand with you every single day if not even your own government can stand with you because they are more concerned about the second amendment

Glad she's ok Shinobi.

This weekend has been too much.

Oh wow what a horrible night, my thoughts are with her
Thanks guys.
Holy shit, Shinobi. Did she treat anyone?
No, she works in the neo-natal unit for babies but the entire hospital was on complete lockdown. I actually worked at this hospital a few years ago as security...it's literally a minute away from this club. That gunman could have walked into the hospital and shot up the place...my hands are shaking. Fuck...

RIP

The sad thing is, if nothing happenes after 20 children got murdered I fear nothing will ever happen. If the public outcry wasn't big enough after that, when will it ever be?

A country whose archaic laws enable the mass murder of people, even little kids has earned the shame and scorn dumped upon it.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families and I mourn with those in your country who will mourn the loss of life.

Sad thing to wake up to.

From the NBC story.

"A little after 5 a.m. this morning we made the decision to go in on a rescue," Mina said, adding that an officer was injured after being shot in the head.

"It appears his helmet saved his life," he said. "So he has an injury to his eye, but it looks like the bullet did hit his helmet."

Sounds absolutely horrific.

Kind of agree here. It's this which changed gun laws quickly on other countries. Closest America came as well honestly.

But the gun activists found the mental health get out clause.

Because if the religious right won't mourn the little children, why chance do people enjoying themselves at a gay nightclub have?

My wife use to go to this club all the time before we met so she is shook up this morning. Seems like all of her friends who go there are fine though, thankfully. What a tragedy.

Actually this is how the world reacts:

Mass shooting in Australia-- Ban guns and haven't had a mass shooting ever again.

Mass shooting in America-- Oh it must be midday again. They'll never change.

RIP to the victims, horrible news :(

Well a defeatist attitude also doesn't help, some things need to boil under the surface. And shooting up children is clearly the work of a loon. Shooting up gays might be political, especially in light of recent marriage equality.

What the fuck, that is so sad. Ban guns. Who cares about the 2nd amendment. Something needs to be done fast.

Have the suspects been caught yet?

Another tragedy to add to the pile.

Maybe one day a majority of Americans will love their fellow humans more than they love their guns, but until that happens these daily massacres will continue to be considered a price worth paying.

Yep. In the current climate, there is simply no act horrific enough.

A majority of Americans want stricter gun control though.

Mass murder is the work of a loon full stop, regardless of any political motivation.

Other countries, a tragedy happens, steps are taken to try and prevent future incidents.

In America, we have a significant portion of the population that will fight tooth and nail to prevent anything being changed. We have a Gun Lobby that has brainwashed it's supporters into thinking that any gun regulation means "GOVEHMENT IS COMMIN FOR MAH GUNZ!".

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
Honestly, brown Islamists having easy access to guns might motivate the right to give on gun control more than the death of little kids.

Or they can just say we need more guns to defend ourselves from terrorism. Ugh what a sad state of affairs.

Perhaps the overall gun control debate should have a thread of its own, and we should keep this one dedicated to the ongoing story of this particular incident...

They will always have new spin no matter what the circumstances.
The NRA is quite simply holding the majority of Americans hostage.

I don't believe the FBI would say "Islamic leanings" if they didn't know 100% who this guy was, or have known who this guy was.

Ideally we do not want Islamic terrorists to get guns, but there are almost always methods of attaining firearms illegally.

The fear we have of Islamic terrorism is a hell of a thing really, there have been over 190,000 homicides in the US since the war on terror began, out of which 37 have been related to Islamic extremism..
Thing is thanks to NRA backed legislations you cannot put known terrorists that are already on a no-fly list in a no-gun-buying list even!

If the FBI really said "Islamic Leanings", the NRA and Republicans will dig in even harder. And being a Gay Nightclub, I don't even want to think about the stuff probably being said on Social Media.

There's people who are fanatical in their support of them, including my ex. One of the few things we simply never agreed on. They're inflexible, no one can take away their guns.

As a native Floridian, the events of the past few days have been immensely aggravating.

This shit literally happens every day
No it doesn't. When you're this hyperbolic nobody can take you serious at all.

This many people getting shot and killed by the same perpetrator doesn't happen every day, in fact it maybe happens 1 or 2 times a year if even that.

Most of the "mass shootings" are gang connected and rarely does more than a handful get shot let alone die.
I don't know much about America's gun ownership rules. Can a civilian legally own and carry an assault rifle?
There's a few states that prohibits NFA items, but generally yes, but an assault-rifle, lets say an M16 costs like +30000 dollars. There's rigorous background checks and the firearm have to be registered.

Florida does allow NFA, but I'd say the chances of him having used an assault-rifle is about 0%.

Islamist leanings. Not "Islamic." Islamism is political Islam, not just the Muslim faith. It's a relevant distinction.
You are free to make one.
I have no interest in participating, it just doesn't make sense to clog up THIS thread with the same circular debate that will go on for 30 pages and isn't directly about the topic at hand.

This is the kind of thing I'm afraid of. I think about it all the time when I'm in a crowded public place.
Well according to the NRA no place is too narrow, noise or dark for everyone to be packing heat and, apparently, also night vision goggles so that brave Rambos can step up and fire once and positively identify the perpetrator and kill him swiftly.

It's really morbid how gun nuts don't even try to say this stuff isn't a problem, and think the problem is that shootings with 4+ victims shouldn't be classified as "mass shootings".
