Yeah I'm about done with this country. 1 person just killed 50+ innocent people with 2 fucking guns. Worst shooting in US history. It's either arm myself or get the fuck out so I think I'm done with this shit. It's only going to get worse unless something is done NOW!

I do find it a bit weird when people start making a series of comments treating guns like they can have their feelings hurt and its a shameful that other posters aren't getting their designation and names right. Listen, its a tool to destroy and murder, you're not using a gun to do anything but put a hole in something from far away. Don't treat it like its a child that and stop acting like people calling it the wrong name is the real issue here. Whether its a sporting rifle or an assault rifle, its a tool that gives any wannabe monster the ability to mow down groups of people with ease. No one is going into a place like this with a machete and murdering 50 people, injuring 50 more, and able to have a stand off with the entire police force.

This is crazy sad :( And i read that the guy who did the shooting is an afghan, i'm going to guess that certain people will use this as trying to scare people regarding Islam, which is also really sad.

No offense, but I don't understand how non-americans are advocating our gun laws. Your experiences from your country is not at all similar to the deep rooted gun culture of USA.

We need better Gun control right now in this country, this is getting so ridiculous at this point.

People should know that violence is not the answer and guns should not be used to kill someone.

AR-15s are about $1500, and I know of at least 3 of them just in my cul de sac.

What makes it not an assault rifle is that it is semi-automatic. One trigger pull, one shot. It looks like one, but it doesn't exactly function like a fully auto or burst fire military rifle.

After Christina Grimmie's tragic death, and this massacre of fifty people, I'm at shock and in disgust that people are actively defending the current gun laws. What will it take for you all to realise that the current gun laws are fucked up and not working?

It's baffling.

Seeing people in this thread defend their "gun rights" gets me so damn upset.

I don't fucking get it.

I've said it before, I'll say it again: America lost the anti-gun movement when nothing happened after 20 children were killed in cold blood.

It makes me sick to my stomach. SOMETHING has to be done. Innocent blood shouldn't be spilled on any soil.

Omar Lateen

Can we not plaster the web with pictures of this filth excuse of a human being? I would much rather see people celebrate the lives of the victims.

I'm not seeing topics for every single shooting or bombing happening in Africa, Asia, Middle-East, etc. so I'm guessing that means you're just disrespectful of them too, right ? Or is it because at some point it stops being "news" and it's just "another day" ?
You're free to feel like I'm being disrespectful all you want. I'm gay and trust me a hate crime killing 50 people of my "community" in a way is shaking me up all right.

If I said I don't feel sorry for them, like you did to us. Then yes its disrespectful . Doesn't matter if you're gay. And interesting youre saying you're all shaken up when the whole reason were arguing is because you said you find it hard to feel sorry.

Just stop.

This looks more like a hate crime towards gays than anything related to religion. Definitely doesn't look like a terrorist cell or group.

"going to"?

It's shameful.

Judging by the amount of threads that unfortunately got created in the past few years it will get worse, much worse.

I find it shameful that some people just can not mourn the death but have the need to defend their stance.

This is not the time nor the place for it.

An AR-15 semi-auto can be turned into a fully automatic rifle with an adapter. This gun was built for military applications, not sporting.

Originally, sure. But so are a lot of guns that people don't consider as dangerous based on looks alone.

The gun in the image above can be fired just as fast as an AR 15. And yet because of its "old" look, most people think it less dangerous than the AR 15. Now, you can do a lot more tactically with the Ar 15, it allows for various attachments (scopes, lights, etc). But the bullet firing speed is semi auto, just like the gun in the image above.

Do we have a semblance of a clear motive yet? Seemed like a clear hate crime, but of course you have Rubio yelling "RADICAL ISLAM!!!"

Which is it? Or is it both?

Why does it matter if the gun was automatic or not? Look at the damage and loss of life it caused regardless.

It matters politically. If it was automatic, republicans will say that it wasn't easy to get so any gun control propositions on semi-autos (which is what the general populace has access to) is misguided and irrelevant.

Wow! This news is so sad, very sorry to anyone effected by this.

Thoughts are with you guys over the pond.
Hope you can do everything possible to put an end to these awful events.

Not sure why people are so hung up on the "assault rifle" thing. Even a standard hunting weapon or a handgun is ridiculously dangerous in the right hands.

I doubt he kills 50 people without an assault rifle. Someone would have tackled him when he was reloading.

It's important to distinguish between assault or not and auto or not because one very easily legally obtained, and the other is not. So if this is an easy to acquire gun why would t you want that more well known, it will only strengthen gun control arguments

I turn it on Fox news since CNN was on commerical to see what was going on, and the guy thats talking is already blaming Obama and Hilary Clinton smh

I disagree. I think a man should have the right to bear arms and not depend solely on the protection provided by the state. When you start to increasingly give personal responsibilities to the goverment is when you start losing your freedom.

You really believe this crap?

No it isn't, there's literally no other difference than cosmetic between an AR-15 and say a H&K SL6/SL7.
It's weird when gun nuts act so ignorant about guns. We're not talking cosmetics, we're talking ergonomics. The pistol grip, barrel length, stock etc -- these are specifically designed to make the weapon more effective in combat. Unlike the SL6, the AR-15 was designed specifically for armed forces.

Rep. Peter King rightly pointing out that this sort of attack could happen anywhere and that's the world we live in these days. It doesn't matter the country, if certain people or individuals are motivated enough they will indeed do great harm. France is proof that gun laws alone aren't enough. There needs to be more effort on the part of security services in tackling Islamist extremism. And saying this doesn't make one a Trump supporting, right wing nutjob. It's just basic fucking common sense!

Stop watching Fox News

Out of curiosity where do you live?
I derailed the thread? I rightly corrected people saying this is an assault rifle, you go off on a node how easy it is to convert.

Believe me, I'm as outraged and sad this has happened as you are, but if people are willing to talk gun laws then I'm willing to correct them when they're wrong.

Over 50 dead with another 50 injured with a semi-auto AR and a handgun, it is just like every other hunting rifle out there.

I'll love it when someone comes out to say, in a serious manner that this wouldn't have happened if everyone in that club was armed. Because you know, a bunch of people in a crowded place shooting off guns in confusion and panic would've prevented this mass loss of life, if anything it'd probably be worse.

How can 1 person fill 100 people with bullets? Thats scary.

Are you familiar with the idiom "shooting fish in a barrel"? That's pretty much how. The place was packed with people and likely little means of escape.

Wow. When I saw this last night the early reports were ~7-10 dead and 20+ injured. Obviously any murder is a tragedy, but it turning out to be 50 dead is still stunning.

Awful.

Anyways I think both sides of the argument need to shut the fuck up and neogaf needs a new rule where gun politics talk is banned from casualty event threads because this shit is becoming borderline desecration. Its totally jarring that these things happen and just become another shitshow thread about gun control politics. Every time.
Yes let's handwave one of the prime causes, because, I don't know why.

So numb to this by now. Modern life isn't worth the effort. It would be one thing if the people leading our country gave a shit but nobody does. They're more content to line their pockets, even while citizens die in the streets.

The difference between France and the US is that in France the shooting was a one in who knows how many years event. In the US, it's a daily occurrence.

Charlie Hebdo, Bataclan, the train attack where American military personnel subdued a man with an AK.

Those are all in the last 2 years
