Indeed fuck that guy, but if you seriously only think gay hatred is only related to religious fanaticism then you are simply wrong.

Go to Russia and look at the skinheads, NN and others who despise gay people, because.


It's a sad reality, but it must be acknowledged, let's not make for singular scapegoat reasons, there is a deeper, much larger reservoir of hatred out there that goes beyond just the religious.
 
Anyway, the Sandy Hook massacre left 20 dead and the Port Arthur (Which caused Australia to ban guns) left 35 dead. Now we have a massacre with 50 and maybe more dead. What are the chances of finally getting some kind of reform seeing as this is election season and people are voting?
 
Honestly the way way for gun laws to change is a mass shooting at a NRA or conservative convention. They won't rally care until it affects their own. That's my two cents.

This is still difficult to comprehend. I saw this thread before I went walking and thought "20? Shit," but 50? That number is just frightening.

The idea that we can't talk about guns in shooting threads, when there is literally a shooting every other day in the US, is absurd.

Yes we can also talk about the killer's motivations and the fucked up ideologies of madmen, but it's burying your head in the sand to deny the role they play in the constant violence.

Go to YouTube and search for "gun collection" and you will see how easy it is to get a semi-automatic AR in this country. People are feverishly obsessed with guns to the point of buying dozens of them and plenty of ammo to boot.

The one I use to have took me 15 or 20 minutes to buy at Academy Sports. I don't think the process there is any different for an AR.

We ban console wars discussions because of its ability to derail threads, im sure there are other examples. This arbitrary line drawing you're talking about has already been done and makes total sense when there are things that will destroy the discourse of a thread and become the same argument about something elss every time.

We don't have to bury our heads for anything. Or "not talk". We can easily have a place where you can argue about gun legislation and politics without it becoming the topic of every thread where a gun was used.


Its just not thread specific anymore when every casualty event becomes a gun legislation debate that has no conclusion.

People aren't talking about this killer and the process of getting an ar-15. They're talking about the political ideology of banning guns, regulation, or the contrary in general. Its just a different topic but it takes over every thread and its especially bad because these topics have a solemn gravity that are diminished when it devolves into another gun politics thread.

I have no qualms with the discussion about the specific gun used and the laws involved with him getting it. Im specifically talking about the big shitshow going on that boils down to general gun politics.

I was a student at VT when the 2007 shooting took place. Absolutely heart wrenching that anyone else should have to go through a similar event. No words for the disgust and sadness I feel.

People are the worst. This sort of thing makes me feel so defeated.

Or make less currently legal purchases legal. I would throw out a starting goal of 100%.
 
Ugh. I don't want to think about how many of the fatalities were because they bled out during the several hours between the initial shooting and when the cops managed to take down the guy. And so close to a major hospital, too. That's gotta be real fucking tough on everyone.

Its getting worse and I still don't think anything is going to change.
 
A (domestic) terrorist attack of this scale, that targets a minority group is a new thing to me. It sounds wrong, but to me it feels worse than a 'general' terror attack.

I was in Orlando for the past week to visit my friends and I left and all this started happening. It's fucking scary to think about if i was still there I'd go donate some blood. Im just glad my friends are safe and their friends are as well.

none. there isn't a number of dead high enough for us to do anything meaningful. we might get a bill that bans or puts limits on "assault" rifles. which is a meaningless term. but assault rifles sound scary so banning them seems reasonable. and anything that gets passed will probably get taken to court and declared unconstitutional.

what we need is to repeal the 2nd amendment. it was a huge mistake and we are paying for it with blood. but i just can't see it ever getting repealed.
 
Supremely devastated. I'm so weak from all of this. My heart pours out to the families and too all of the victims who were just celebrating life and to now see it done in an instant.....it's just too much.

This just brings me back to what Obama said about gun laws in that town hall meeting he had recently. This is EXACTLY what he was talking about...this is terribly sad.

People like him don't personalize this. People like him see a mass shooter and equate it to an act of god like a tornado.
 
I really need to find out my blood type. You never know when you might be in position to save someone's life by donating blood.
