Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

Yeah, I doubt Sony pays AMD twice for two chip designs. Someone suggested bad Neo chips could be used for a PS4 slim. Not sure if that is viable though.
The reduction in cost selling millions of chips is worthy of 2 chip designs.

Actual PS4/Xbone chip going to 14/16nm will be close to half the cost.

Looks good. I waited for the longest time for the slim version but gave up and bought the Forza bundle. I don't regret buying mine as it's very quiet and the size doesn't bother me any more.

Does anyone know whether the slim version has the power supply on the outside again? The power brick is absolutely massive on the fat Xbox One so I assume it's either internal or that it's smaller for the xbox one slim.

Edit: Never mind, someone said it was internal.

He definitely mad.

and PS2 was bought for DVD. Sure.

I don't doubt that there will be people buying the slim because of its supposed 4k bluray capabilities. But it's not gonna be as significant of a number as with the previous consoles.

Both, because Bluray -> Bluray 4K is not as much of a "generational jump", but also because optical media isn't quite as relevant anymore in the age of streaming.

HT enthusiasts are not going to be moving a significant amount of units.

Yeah i didn't mean in mass, but at the right price it'll become more appealing over stand alone players imo.

No I get that, But having three different Xbox Ones out is going to be insane

Nah, the 360 usually had around that many versions in many points and no one went insane.

At one point, you could choose from the Core without any hard drive, one with a hard drive, and the Elite; later you could choose a regular one, then a slim, and then a slim with kinect; and later in it's life you had yet another revision join it.

Kinda wanna see in person how it sizes up against a PS4. I'm assuming that the two are almost the same size now, and if so I'd be almost tempted to switch out my current fatBone for this.

Is it any different to the DS, DS Lite, DSI and DSI XL?

What will happen is the One Slim will phase out the OG One, and the Scorpio will be the upgraded version. So you'll have 2 consoles, similar to the PS4 and PS4 Neo.

If that's real it doesn't even look that much smaller, but hard to tell from the photo.

That's because they kept the same design which makes it harder to notice in pics. Always loved the XB1 design so just making it smaller and letting you stand it vertically is a win win.

"phasing out" the OG Xbone isn't gonna be all that easy, imho. Aren't retail channels pretty stuffed? ... There's gotta be millions of units still sitting on retail shelves.

We pay 38 or 39 cents per kWh electricity at our highest tier (thanks PG&E), so a die shrink is always welcome. More efficient consoles could certainly save a household like ours at least $5-$10 a month.

That is, until Scorpio/Neo arrives and the cycle starts all over again.

Hm, to your last point, I'd thought the popular theory (or maybe just another theory floating around?) was that Scorpio and Neo were a bit different in this respect. Basically, that Neo is an upgraded PS4 with all games going forward compatible with OG and Neo, but better on Neo, whereas Scorpio would be an XB2 essentially with backwards compatibility with XB1, but with new games exclusive to XB2 (and presumably some cross-gen?)

I'm unsure if there's any evidence for this theory in regards to Scorpio at this point, though, as I haven't been following it (or Neo) too closely. So I guess I'm just repeating what I read elsewhere on the board but was curious if there's a consensus as to whether Scorpio will be a Pro type system or a brand new XB2 type system.

Looks good, need to see how much it will cost and how much smaller it really is. Where is the brick too?

SUCKS that this comes out the same year I'm going to upgrade GPUs... Might have to put it off until next year.

Even if they need to pay up for 2 designs the expense is always worth it the end, with the cost savings from being able to make a smaller, cooler console over the next 40M units sold. And they get to hit a lower price point they couldn't if they continue making the old model.

We'll see I guess. I don't think two chips will happen. There has been absolutely nothing on a PS4 slim so far, only Neo talk/leaks. The one thing not to leak!?

based off those renders it barely looks smaller

I kinda figured it wouldn't be much smaller from the pic with the controller. The regular model is just over 2 controller lenghts wide as well. Kinda wish they would have left the power brick external.

No confirmation about the brick. I know I'm in the minority, but I hope it's still external.

No it doesn't. MS isn't going to up the price of a system with an entire 4k BR disc drive that are limited at the moment.

If that new Xbone S was going to have a 4kBR drive it would say so.

4K disc drives aren't special.

It's just the price that makes it appear so.

Tech wise it's hardly expensive in terms of actual manufacturing costs vs the msrp of the players.

What normally happens in the UK is that retailers just suddenly vastly drop the prices on old SKUs. Tesco last December dropped the OG 3DS and the 2DS bundled with MK to £49 to get rid of old stock, PS3 slims were £100.

It becomes like an arms race where for a month or 2 retailers just keep under cutting each other.

Whaaat, why is it that high? I'm on 20c per kWh and I thought we had it bad (electricity has to be imported from other countries, usually Vietnam).
