Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

we don't know the depth of the console.

Again: If it's a 10% reduction in width, 15% reduction in heigth, but it's 20% less deep, we're already at -40% volume / weight.

the PS3 slim was actually only -35% lighter than the OG PS3 and a -38% reduction in volume.
- it was onyl 10% less wide, and actually 5% deeper, but 34% less tall)
Well I'm one of guys that said the 40% volumetric is indeed big.

I just replayed to you because it looked like you are saying the PS3 Slim reduction was small while it was big.

It looks slick. The UHD blu-ray drive is the only extra thing I want from one of these upcoming consoles. I think it needs to be really cheap for it to sell though given that the more powerful Xbox is on its way.

Unfortunately, regardless of price, I'm too entrenched with my PC and PS4 to even consider buying this. It sure seems the PC will eventually be getting some Xbox exclusives. Unless it has a stupidly high price, the PS4K will be my choice for UHD blu-rays/console combo.

I prefer external power. Tons less heat in the console and after you plug it in you never see it again. The Xbox One is dead silent thanks to that. The X1S will probably sound like the PS4 with it internal.
If it will sound like PS4 then you can be happy because it will pretty silent.

yeah it was a big reduction, it was still a huge piece of hardware.

which is the same situation we're seeing here. We're getting a big reduction in volume and weight, but people were having some weird expectations because they don't know what -40% size means in regards to actual reduction of outer hardware dimensions. ;)

Looks nice and I like the name if it's actually called "The S" as it hearkens back to the original Xbox Controller S, which deserves more recognition for being the prototypical modern controller.

Still not buying one. I don't even know what to do with the Xbox I already have.

Looks nice. Not sure if we'll upgrade given that the old one is still perfectly fine and I'm more likely to upgrade the PS4 first. Still, nice look and a good upgrade from the original model.

2TB is a nice jump worth noting too.

Really hope this can maintain the silent noise levels of the regular Xbox One. Even though it's enormous I really appreciate that over the PS4.

It looks pretty! Excited to see how it looks like in actual photos/lighting.

Sometimes I wish people wouldn't leak things just two days before the actual conference tho. I know, I know. If you don't want to get spoiled, don't click on the leak threads but it would have been nice to be surprised during the conference.

What's the point of 4K video streaming if every 4K TV has built-in apps anyway? Does it have UHD Blu Ray?

4K projectors.
4K monitors
4K TVs without SmartOS.

also, if there's ever a Twitch App able to do 4k streaming, don't expect your ... Panasonic Firefox OS to get that app before your Xbone.

Agreed, but I will be working insane hours next week so won't be able to see any of the conference anyways :P

Built in apps generally suck vs standalone devices and as the manufacturer wants you to buy a new TV it is not in their best interest to update them?

Here's a size comparison I jotted in Photoshop.

The optical slot's not clear enough on the Xbones pic so I had to use the USB.

Hmm...it's nice looking and I have a 4K tv. Might pick it up later, but I want to wait learn about Scorpio. I am in process of making a white/black PC build/game room, so this might in well there.

again, a 15% reduction of size along each axis would still mean a roughly 40% reduction in total volume. (0,85*0,85*0,85 = 0,614 => -39%)

People had weird expectations when they heard "40% smaller", like the console would be half the size.

I don't see how that is a weird expectation - if something is being advertised as 40% smaller, that's only 10% away from being half the size. The other thing is, the photoshop comparison really only gives you an idea of the size difference in two dimensions. There ought to be a big difference seeing the device in person if the "40% smaller" claim is really true.

I like this a lot. May finally add an Xbox One to my TV stand. Can't wait to hear more about price and whether or not the current Xbox One stock will drop in price.

I thought Linear PCM was better than bitstream? I have both my PS4/XB1 set to LPCM w/ my 5.1 receiver based on the advice I read here.

Same thing, just depends if you want to decode on the console or your AVR. Decoding on the AVR will light up your DTS HD light ;)
DTS HD is a lossless compression that decides to PCM.
Some AVRs can't decode DTS HD so may as well decode on console and enjoy the lossless audio through the AVR as PCM. All AVRs will play PCM.

The slim Xbox One is a true testament to how good Sony are at manufacturing hardware. Can't believe PS4 is still slimmer.

it's cool that the PS4 is smaller and it does look quite nice but to be honest it's build quality leaves a lot to be desired, it feels quite cheap and let's not pretend it isn't loud as hell.

the xboner is huge but at least it feels like a nice premium piece of tech and it's nice and quiet
