Xbox One S: 40% smaller, 2TB, 4K for movies/tv, internal PSU, $300

Anecdotal I know but my work (Target) hasn't gotten in the 500GB models in months. In fact, I think maybe December was the last time we had any. We put in orders for more, but never get any. I think they're phasing it out. If anyone finds a 500GB model in a brick and mortar store, they better get it for a steal.

I should think so too.

I havent got fuck all on my XB1 and I'm nearly at 73% space used. I don't understand why the OS takes up nearly 100 GB.

Still, I feel there will be a $250 option this fall. Whether it's through gift cards, or HD size is a different matter, but it will be there.

I still think Scorpio is March 2017 at ther LATEST, if not November 2016.

One S = entry level
One Pro = enthusiast model

It'll be called Xbox One Pro
There is no chance the Scorpio is coming this year. They'd have sent out devkits by now if that was the case and as far as we know right now they haven't even decided on the target specs and instead have ballpark targets.

I like the look (and the size), although I'd still place my white Xbox One over it just in terms of being a little sleeker. But I'll definitely nab one if it comes out in white.

If games are still targeting base Xbox One, then no, dev kits aren't necessary right now.

AMD's 480 being ready to sale in June is no coincidence. I still think Scorpio is this year or March 2017.

Love the look but it's pretty undeniable that they're trying to make it look as much like a ps4 as possible. Vertical stand just kind of proves it.

Yea I didnt really pay attention to the size either until I focused on the controller on top of it.

Looks alot smaller. Nice.

Smaller and the power brick is inside? Ok, MS I see you...

Why would anyone buy this with Scorpio coming out relatively soon?

As said the 4k player is a good reason; Personally I've got a $300 Dell Giftcard from a tv purchase that expires the end of August so this X1 will probably be what I get. I'd rather live in the now and enjoy what I have then to wait for something not even announced; The only time waiting really makes sense are preset product cycles like Apple products.

It's your money to spend how you wish and I respect that, but so is mine and I'd rather enjoy something now.

They're not releasing 2 new boxes this year, especially when one isnt ready. Goodluck with getting a scorpio this year.

Sounds more and more like Scorpio is a Q4'17 release. So I don't think slim sales will be affected as much. Curious to see what Sony is thinking now.

Yes, if Sony has new system, but not a big jump, and is more expensive, that may be interesting time for sales this holiday season. Just saying 4k now the the XBOX One S will confuse enough people.

Then if MS has new system the next holidays, that will be interesting too.

Moreover, implementing Scorpio specific features takes time and means they need to send devkits outs months in advance if they want to have titles to showcase the system with.

It'd be the cheapest UHD Blu Ray player on the market if it has that.

And would be a page right out of Sony's playbook. I would laugh my ass off if it has one.

One things for certain.....the always online, TV TV TV fiasco lit a fire under MS.

What is surprising is MS beating Sony to a Blu-ray feature when Sony help pioneer the format I guess having major association with the brand doesn't help like it should.

Eh, its not really a feature you have to race to get out considering how few uhd blurays are out there right now. Sony can afford to wait.

The white xbox one looks very modern and really aesthetically pleasing. I would say it's the best looking console out right now.

I agree, this white Xbox One looks incredible.

I feel you but it's still a selling point that MS are using. I mean Sony shouldn't be worried but it's as you said with so few out there MS's new Xbox one S will be among the few that will scratch that 4k media content spot.

I'm assuming 4k playback. Considering uhd players just came out at 500, i don't think the manufacturer of the drive would let them get it at such a low price.

Samsungs player came out at $399.99 and it has a big mark up on it. Its also made of aluminium, and its priced to gouge early adopters. I highly doubt these drives cost signuficantly more than the existing drives, plus they have to use a better processor which comes included in a console as is.

That samsung players price is going to drop like a rock when the consoles come out because they'll be the more attractive option overall plus they won't be riddled with bugs.

I think the discs themselves are the same. Just using h265 for better compression. You are really just talking better hardware but cheap socs can do h265 now i believe.

HDR is part of the 4K UHD Blu-ray specification.
What? Are they applying "HDR" to yet ANOTHER separate thing?

Here is what it has been before:

In photography: You take the same photo at different exposure levels and then merge them so no whites are blown out and no blacks are crushed. It essentially increases captured detail across a wide contrast beyond what our current technologies can do at once. So you could, say, have a dark indoors environment properly exposed as well as what is seen through the windows/doorway.

In videogames: When switching between indoors and outdoors environments the game dynamically manages its own sense of exposure level between different forms of lighting and postprocess and thus emulates what your eyes naturally do. Was really slow and sloppy in previous years but has made great improvements, now doing very well in games like Dragon Age Inquisition to even improve atmosphere in rain and tree shade and such.

In displays: When you're watching a movie and the scene is dark or bright, the TV artificially increases or decreases its exposure/gamma levels on the fly to try and maintain a theoretical midrange on the most detail to make the image pop. In practice all it does is shit all over the filmmaker's intention in every single shot, usually destroys detail in some way or another, over-brightens things that are intended to be dark, and since it is not properly instantaneous/fluid it creates a horribly inconsistent viewing experience like the cameraman was some moron constantly adjusting exposure to help himself see things through the eyepiece. Also called dynamic contrast.

Seeing as how there is so much protest to my post and with this clue about it being a feature of 4k, I can only assume that they are now using "HDR" as a way of describing increased contrast ratio. If that is the case, then of course I don't mind a higher range of contrast, but I am annoyed with them taking a term for a camera ability (the contrast ratio that a camera can capture across is called the "dynamic range" of a camera because it is actively capturing it, hence dynamic, whereas video output is static) and then to describe an increase in this, merging yet another separate thing into the "High Dynamic Range" term. They could easily say Wide Contrast Ratio if that is what they mean, but "HDR" has already been pushed as a buzzword for years.
