Oh my...
Oh my god I'm in tears hahaha!:'D "Edge Lord never loses", this and the Hanzo fan art are next level.
Very true.I think many artists are really in love with the characters and it shows.
At the same time it's a good way for them to expose their art to a wider array of people who are interested in this super popular game and exposition is really 99% of artists need desperately.
Is this a Kare Kano reference? omg
Hey, at least there are a variety of European countries represented in Overwatch. With Euro 2016 underway, I was kinda hoping to see pics of the Overwatch cast in football shirts, but I've not seen any so far. Sad times.

Japan loves Overwatch soooooo...Isn't that just a Japanese thing? Drawing girls from anime wearing their favourite team's jerseys?
It can become a double edged sword if all your known for is fanart. Basically people only become interested in your work if it's a drawing of their favorite character. Artists get to a point where they need to rely on other people's creations to survive.I think many artists are really in love with the characters and it shows.

close enough to fanart
"...Hasselhoff"
close enough to fanart
Knew I shouldn't have used the term "balls." Debated it.
You're projecting aggression onto the post.
Everything said in that post was true, so take umbrage with reality instead
The fan-character design at the top of /r/Overwatch is pretty damn cool.
This is great too!

Reality sucks
Nah seriously speaking, I actually agree in the sense that losing the size dynamic between Roadhog and Junkrat is a shame (and thus it looks kind of "off") and if I were the artist I would have drawn Roadhog fat. It's just not something I would call an artist a coward over. That I felt was too much since its like not even remotely fair - people draw what they like for fanart, its usually for thier consumption foremost and then its something they share with the world. It doesn't make them assholes even if I don't necessarily like their interpretation.
How much convincing would it take to let Sega have a Sonic Tracer costume in the game.
Probably not much because I heard sonic fans are crazy. I bet they'd keep buying loot boxes until they got it.How much convincing would it take to get Blizzard to want a Sonic costume in the game.

Who actually said they were a coward? Who said they were an asshole? You're making this a personal matter, taking it as a personal affront (to someone you don't even know, no less), rather than an observation of a trend.Reality sucks

I would stop playing and file some sort of class action lawsuit. How much convincing would it take to let Sega have a Sonic Tracer costume in the game.

You've emotionally invested yourself in the creative work of others and are caught up in your notion of creative freedom — if you seemingly cannot process criticism without taking personal offense to it (vicarious or otherwise) and can't read between the lines of criticism, you will continue to get into arguments about "authorial intent," and "artistic freedom," being trampled on when are that isn't actually happening.
this is the last i'll post on this, cause it's kinda a silly discussion:
i don't know where you live but, where i'm from when someone says :they don't have the balls: that usually means they lack courage
I didn't catch feelings for someone having a penchant for some grandiose concept of body image that should extend to the general population's psyche when it comes to drawing art on their spare time for free. i just find it a bit silly, that in a thread where artist expression comes in all shapes and sizes. where artists have been shown taking liberties from
-adding sexuality to characters before anything official has been shown
-turned into gremlins
-given roles other than what we know them for
-made into moe anime
-changed their genitals
but to say they pigeonhole themselves or are cowards to people, as you yourself say "to someone you don't even know, no less". it's a little bit of a hard pill to swallow given the general trend of the thread right?
criticism is fine and dandy. but it's not a doiley you just drop on the floor and expect others not to react to it or dissect it. you can't just ACCEPT it because someone on says "it's all true! end of discussion. don't like it? you probably gonna throw out silly concepts like artistic freedom! you already lost, don't even try!".
overwatch is varied. there's lots of varied art for everyone. i've personally seen it. if you feel it's missing something, it's probably because someone hasn't made it (yet). i've personally seen a lot of *stuff* that shows me lots of artists care. there's something for everyone. popular does not mean bad. it might mean boring (to some), but there's reasons why things are popular (which can be debated).
anyways that's all i'm gonna say on it, cause i'm not going to die on a hill that's based on roadhog and junkrat who had their genitals changed but not be their original sizes (but the original creator's intent!!!).
The sentiment is clear based on that user's initial and following posts on the artwork in question — personal disappointment of a common trend. You caught feelings over the usage of "balls," erroneously extrapolating that the person saying it would surely go on to call out the artist as a pathetic coward who is too weak to defy gender norms and uphold their duty to push progressive ideals and this common trend is absolutely horrible, or whatever. It was an edgy, yet innocuous turn of phrase, one made inconsequential and cleared up in subsequent posts.
Had that sentiment been worded differently — like "decided not to," instead of "didn't have the balls to" — you wouldn't have gotten so bent out of shape. If anything's silly, it's the notion that any one negative opinion on artwork in this thread is somehow exceptional or worthy of note, and for the exact reasons you mention.
That is the hill you died on. That is why "you already lost."
Hold that L forever
Hey now, you can't just get over it that fast, you got an "L" to hold. Forever even. After all, you died on that hill.
I feel like I'm missing some sort of inside joke.
think in the lore she was a pro starcraft 2 player. so the Internet took that and ran with itCan someone explain the D.Va & Doritos meme to me?
