No backward compatibility talk...?

I expected Phil to say at the end that more publishers had given their blessing and here's 50+ new BC games.

Disappointed that didn't happen.

For those who are already bought into Xbox, this conference was an A. They showed their 3 key properties (Halo, Gears, Forza) along with new hardware.

For PC gamers, this was a solid B. Some promising stuff to keep an eye on.

For those who Microsoft are attempting to convert to Xbox fans, this conference was a C or possibly even D.

That was pretty weak. 6/10

Scorpio will kill sales even more for X1 now. Games will not run at 4K, no matter what they say. Unless the console will cost $1000+

The GTX 1070 can handle just about every game out there at 4K/30fps. It's $379. It's not crazy to think that a year and a half from now, Microsoft would be able to release a console with the same performance for $499 or less.

Solid conference. Lots of games shown.

Highlights:
Love the direction they're taking with Xbox Live going cross platform.
Sea of Thieves

As a PC gamer, I got more out of this conference than most of Microsoft's past conferences.

5/10.

A lot of their big hitters looked incredibly rough. In fact, it's probably due to devs switching to scorpio development. Scalebound looked shite, Gears was gears, etc. a real by the numbers conference.

Scorpio looks amazing on paper, but they announced a new console WITHOUT ANY GAMES! Clearly a desperate move by MS. They really think the most powerful console will just wipe the floor because of 6TF. MS never learn. Show me the games MS. Make me a believer.

Very excited for the Scorpio. Glad to see they're bringing it to Sony again. Interesting to see how they respond now. RIP PS4 (And XBone. RIP this gen)

I think that was the best E3 conference I've seen.

The presentation was slick, no technical errors, Phil Spencer was great.

Gears of War 4, Horizon 3 and Sea of Thieves all looked brilliant. The indies didn't take up too much screen time and what was shown looked good. The cross buy between Windows 10 and Xbox is a great service to the consumer.

The conference wasn't DLC centric and it was refreshing that CoD and FIFA weren't prevalent.

The only part I didn't like was the Minecraft part due to the slightly wooden delivery.

One S and Project Scorpio look brilliant. Just not sure which to wait for!

The ball is in Sony's court now because I thought that was a really solid display from Microsoft.

Are you currently sitting in the back section of the E3 presentation hall?

What games?
ReCore looks like its running on the Wii U
Sea of Thieves looks pretty great but I wonder why there was no combat.
Gears lost the magic and has the most generic cast of characters in a game since Brute Force.
Scale bound looks dreadful

They lost D4 as an exclusive and had to show off a card game and Tekken 7 to fill time.

Finally they are so scared of being completely pushed out of the console space with how archaic the Xone already is that they have to announce a successor that is over a year and a half from launch and doesn't even have a shell on it just so fans like you can feel good.

That was a dismal showing.

I 100% agree with everything you said.

Also a lot of people are forgetting how Scalebound normal non-boss fight look:
tuurrrible
.

Also what is D4?

The only thing MS showed that I went "wow that looks good" was Forza Horizon 3. But hell if you have a PC you can play all of this.

Honestly the conference started out great but then bored the shit outta me. The pacing was awful. Too much talking, not enough game footage. Also, the cameraman sucked. Last year's conference was superior. They could have cut this conference down by 30 mins, easily.

I find it interesting that MS possibly consider winning the console buyers by releasing the most powerful console....

Not only have they failed before (Orig Xbox) , and or not whether its due to loyalty to other platforms or games , what makes them think this will work?

Afterall, most games revealed are all available on a PC running WIn10 .

I think that's great. MS just convinced you that you'll play games as part of Windows 10 then.

Up to gamers to decide.

yeah don't get me wrong. This isn't about hating on MS. I'm glad they give me the choice. I do question the business sense though since they are losing my Gold subscription and any other money i'd spend for the console

Was not impressed by the show, they have announced a console to replace a console that is not out. All games are coming to windows 10 so there is absolutely no reason to buy an Xbox at all. Sell your Xbox and buy a PC with a 1070 card instead. Only a few games that were surprises but they were kind of a given they would come to Xbox (dead rising 4)

3/10

Really compelling reasons to buy an X1, but I'm wondering if I should just wait for Scorpio...or maybe buy a gaming pc. Confusing!

Decent press conference. I'll probably end up selling my Xbox One and play them on PC, the only titles (Gears 4, Recore, Scalebound) I was interested in were crossbuy, which is awesome. Very nice move.

The looking for group tool was also nice, it'll help Destiny and Division's players.

Surprised we didn't see:
-Crackdown 3
-Halo FPS stuff
-Read Dead/Backwards Compatibility update

Disappointed we didn't get better cross play between Xbox and Windows/those rumors were over inflated.

Lol

All in all I thought it was a good conference. They really did great with the messaging that everything is coming to Windows too

6/10

Fun that they actually included some Scorpio stuff. Great news with the PC/Xbone crossplay stuff. Very weak on surprises from internal projects. No impressive showing of Crackdown? No original internal project shown? The two big monster RPG experiences were awful. Tekken 7 trailer was too long and hardly interesting enough for that kind of attention. Killer Instinct and Forza were uninteresting and pointless titles like they always are in these showings, but nice to get a window to refill your snacks. Overall a subpar Microsoft conference.

Sony don't need to go anywhere near the Neo if they have strong game announcements.

They can sit back for months while everyone wonders what their response to Scorpio will be.

The hype will be with them then, and they won't have had to lift a finger.

Holiday 2017 for Scorpio. Yep I want it. But then I want all shiny tech toys. I wonder if they have some info from their SOC provider that they'll be able to push 4k at consumer prices at that point. 4k is no joke but seeing the leap a GTX1080 has over the Titan I could see another big leap allowing 4k to happen. 4k@60Hz seems like a pipe dream though.

Overall strong conference
Pros:
  • "Play Anywhere" initiative
  • Re:core
  • Forza Horizon 3
  • Hardware announcements

Cons:
  • Rough middle patch
  • Scalebound Lacks the Platinum flair (in demo form at least)
  • Lack of "new" reveals
  • Minecraft VR (probably fun as hell to play but demos poorly)

8/10 for me

Scorpio announcement is kind of a mis-step, yeah? Gives people something to talk about right now but it's so far out that the hype will die down, the awareness will canabalize XB1 sales and it gives Sony plenty of time to react...

Recore and Horizon 3 stole the show for me.

People hated Recore? For real? This shit is singleplayer goodness.

A solid conference. The Gears 4 and FFXV demos were bland and the constant zoom outs during trailers were beyond annoying. Battlefield 1 looks the same as it did yesterday, funny....

The Scorpio reveal was great and I'm liking Scalebound and DR4. Indies look good as well. Not quite sold on Sea of Thieves yet, but slowly warming up to it. And how could I forget We Happy Few?! I give it a 7.5/10. Hire a better cameraman next time.

Rankings:
1: Microsoft (7.5/10)
2: Bethesda (5.5/10)
3: EA (2/10)

First off it doesn't work that way... second why would they? Announcing this early just forces people to hold off.

Sony admitted that they changed their presentation dramatically three years ago when the Xbox One price was announced and MS doubledowned on their DRM.

That's how we got that funny "How to Share Games" on PS4 video, plus them going ahead and announcing their price point of $399.

I'm around there. The fact basically everything is Windows 10 also ruins my care for Xbone. We Happy Few looks great. Scalebound and Recore are both possible interests. Everything else seemed like the same old same old.

Right.Hardly any excitement about the games, and that's what I wanna see. New and inspiring games. We Happy Few looked great, also interested in Inside and Cuphead, but the latter games were already announced last year.

Bookending your conference with two hardware announcements just seems bizarre. Plenty of other people mentioned this, but seriously, who is the One S even for?

good conference for MS

Likes:
- custom controllers
- cross play
- forza horizon 3
- sea of thieves
- gears of war looked fun
- scalebound
- we happy few

I have a bad feeling that the reason we have Xbox One S is because Scorpio is going to be more expensive than what customers have been used to for consoles. Like this might Neo Geo levels of expensive where I won't be willing to shell out for it.

The leak certainly had its effect here but it was still a pretty bad conference for me. Nothing really that I am interested in. I was so hoping the Age of Empires rumor was true. The rest they announced just seemed like more of the same aside from ReCore, which looked ok.

I also dont like the direction the consoles are going, this no generation bullshit, consoles are already pretty expensive in my country as is. This conference was also one big way to kill the One, I wonder if it will pull a Wii U-ish situation until Scorpio is out. I guess at least it will have 3rd party support, I guess we will see.

Also most of the live demos were dreadful, GOW 4, FFXV and Scalebound looked incredibly boring and uninteresting. And OMG that Minecraft VR section was soooooo bad.

The only good thing out of this was the cross-buy cross-play thing and Sea of Thieves.

Loved the presentation. Stayed away from the leaks over the past couple of days so I'd be in tune with the rest of the folk over watching the presentations today. Really went over well here.

My take away from all of this is that there is no reason to buy an XBox. Just get a Win10 PC and gain access to these 'exclusives' plus every other PC game. Scorpio is nothing at the moment, and will likely be underpowered compared to PCs by time it releases, so buyers will jus be limiting themselves by getting into that closed off infrastructure. Good job Microsoft for getting into the PC space, but way to kill your console brand.

Overall, this was a horrid conference with very little in the way of interesting looking games (exclusives) and very disappointing hardware.

This is the best conference they had since last years conference IMHO. A majority of the reveals actually surprised me and the Scorpio and Xbone S reveals colored me interested. Also, I got a nostalgia overload when they showed the original Xbox logo and the Jump ahead slogan.
