The NX just has more console hardware competition now. They need to stand out all the more.
But won't Nintendo's competition be the base models, not the premium revisions? And if anything, the likely handheld form factor is gonna push the most units.

I wonder how people would feel if apple announced the iPhone 10 ten minutes after announcing the iPhone 9 then continued to say "releases 18 months from now"?

Like, what would have been lost if they announced Scorpio at next years E3 or a separate event instead of this year? I just don't get it.

I think they handled it very tastefully and the crowd seemed to be into it. I'm ready to learn more!

I thought so as well. I went in totally against the idea, but I think getting it out there, and launching holiday 2017 makes sense. As someone like me probably will wait until around mid 2018 to upgrade, which does not seem all that bad now that I think about it. I still have time to enjoy my Xbox One and will take all of my games with me.

4k 30fps, is stupid. I hope that's not what Sony/MS are pushing.

If PS4K comes out this year, it will be interesting.. Leaves the door open to release yet another updated console.

Choice, I guess.
I can't even run current gen at 4k/60 on my i7 6700k + 980ti. I hope most games try 1440p/60.

I'd honestly prefer they just aim for 1080/60 then with a strong IQ then.

This. I don't know why everyone is into 4k. Maybe because it's a cool buzzword you can use for marketing, but i prefer 1080/60,1080/30,1440... with better details, more viewdistance, better physics, ...
4k takes so much ressources with not many advantages for me.

Devs I’ve talked to are unhappy about PS4.5 because it’s happening so fast, Sony demanding compatibility ASAP.

interesting

Sounds like Neo is shipping with whatever specs it has already.

Sony doesn't need to do anything yet. If anything, announcing so early might impact current XB1 sales negatively.

Sony can easily just use a PlayStation Meeting next February or next E3 to announce the Neo.

This may be a stupid question. But is this the successor to the Xbox One? (I haven't even crawled into the X1/PS4 generation, so... now maybe I'll just skip it?)

1080 will shit all over the scorpio..doesn't matter what time it happens.

thats what I said? Chinner's question was what PC would beat scorpio. I said a 1080 would beat a scorpio. If you built a PC with anything less than a 1070/1080 (brand new high end GPUs), then it would be on par or lower powered than the proposed scorpio specs.

They can't even get their crap together with Zelda. :(

Uh, what are you talking about? Let's wait until tomorrow before concern-trolling over that game.

In terms of the NX, PS4 Neo and Scorpio aren't really a threat to Nintendo. Nintendo is its own worst enemy. If the NX fails, it'll because of poor decisions on their part.

Wtf at no exclusive Scorpio games. That makes no sense.

It's a stupid move, and Sony seem to be doing the same.

All it does is devalue the console. Publishers and developers will make games primarily for the PS4 and Xbox One regardless, because of their install base. All they're doing is reducing the appeal of powerful new hardware, which will be anchored down by the restrictions of weaker hardware.

What's so exciting about this iterative hardware with 6tf? It's still using 8gb or ram?
We all know how it's going to look and run today, all the games will just look like Xbox one games on PC running with 980ti. Same fucking experience.
It's the most boring new console ever, same goes for Neo.

You see where I'm going with this? History has shown us that the most powerful console does not always win the generation. PS4 is the first generation where the actual strongest console also managed to be the generational leader. You don't need to have a ridiculous machine to compete as long as it is strong enough to handle the demands of the current technology.
The weirdest thing about all of this is why did Microsoft choose now to go this route? Who has built up a PS4/PSN library and is willing to ditch all of it? You start a "perpetual generation" when you are in the lead, not when you are far behind. The whole thing just makes me think I'll be investing more in Steam going forward.

I find it funny that this and PS4 Neo were announced well in advance before they're gonna launch

Especially since neither Microsoft or Sony did that for the XB1 & PS4 initially

Shits weird brehs

Don't get this announcement at all. It will most likely just kill the XboxOne sales, and that console is already struggling. Makes no sense to me to announce this console this early.

Sorry, any pictures? Has anything ever been announced and boasted so massively about by the creators to not actually show the product?

Seamus Blackley stated that all Xbox One games will work on Scorpio, but not vice versa. So basically cross-gen for a few years, then they'll just move to the new platform. I expect Scorpio exclusives whenever third parties don't want to bother with the Xbox One anymore, and Microsoft will just wait for it to happen naturally.

Oh okay good. I'm okay with this. They are pretty much telling people they are done with Xbox One. They've moved on.

So all this talk of 4k... will this or the Neo support raising framerate or effects while turning down to 1080p? I don't have a 4k TV.

Excited about this and I really hope Sony releases something on par so that I can now do all Xbox gaming through my PC and enjoy console gaming at the best possible quality while retaining exclusives from Sony.

Whoever runs this is so on the ball sometimes with their jokes.

Amazing.

Being serious for a moment, i wonder if Sony's neo plans got MS to panic and make this announcement. All MS talked about were specs, which is very easy to do, it isn't until we have a machine in our hands that it means anything. This may be MS's attempt to try and kill some attention from the Neo. It is really odd to announce this far ahead of time when you are still trying to sell your current console.

I don't doubt that for a second.

Both MS and Sony announced their last consoles less than a year to their launches seemingly because mentioning their future consoles every few months for 2 years before release and then having to change a bunch of things makes them look bad. It's a lot of promises to make ahead of time and hope nothing goes wrong.

With Neo supposedly coming out this year they don't want to look like they are being left behind, so they've shown their hand now, hence all the numbers and multiple mentions of 6TF, that way when Sony come out and say theirs is 4-4.5tf they can say there's is already better even if its over a year away.

This whole forward compatibility thing is funny too, both MS and Sony moved away from exotic hardware for the same reaon, cheaper, easier to work with, and lets them bring everything with them for console updates.

Goddamn. Well, I'm going to assume Sony purposely confirmed the Neo's existence to lure Microsoft out like this so that they can readjust the Neo's specs or something.
