Remember when the Consoles were supposed to last 10 years. Yeah I remember that.

They were never supposed to last ten years in the way people keep saying it. Console cycles have been 4-6 years. But the previous generation consoles stick around after the new ones are introduced. Giving them roughly ten years of life in the market.

I just noticed that with this announcement, Xbox One sales are probably going to hit all new lows. Which is bad with a new model out there soon.

I don't think the mainstream will care. They were careful to name it "Project Scorpio" and not "Xbox Scorpio," so there's a decent chance the average consumer won't even know about the Scorpio this year.

Why is Nintendo so awkwardly caught in the middle of these cycles? How can they relatively compete?

Wondering how Nintendo can compete in the current market myself. Really hoping they've got something up their sleeves...

They're basically selling steam boxes from here on out then? All consoles they release will play what they make until they're too outdated to play on the lowest setting?

I'm hoping one gen (box) forward and as many back as possible.

Will all Scorpio games also have to work on the Xbox One? That would require a hell of a lot of compromise in graphical fidelity.
Yeah, it will probably be mandated. Which is why I keep on insisting that the games appearing on the successor to Scorpio will probably support Scorpio but not Xbox One. Perhaps this is the new model going forward?

Well, shit. I came into this with no intention of buying the Xbox One Slim and totally against the idea of Scorpio and now I'm putting money aside for both. Sigh. I will probably do the same with Neo. Sigh again. So much monies.

The messaging in this conf I found interesting

They pushed Xbox anywhere strongly, lots of Windows 10 everywhere...

Phil at the end pushed the idea of the end of generations...

So..what's the diff between a Xbox and a PC at this point?

Scorpio just pretty much MS ready made gaming PC offering? That's VR ready...

I mean they could put a new one of these things out each year really the way they are pitching this..

So ms finally exiting the console biz?

So... This is the end of console generations as we knew them, right?

Microsoft will probably keep launching Xbox revisions (but getting to the point that older models are not compatible with new games), and seems like Sony will do the same... And Nintendo will launch a completly new console next year.

I know, right ;P

MS lost this gen, hence they are going to restart it next year

No. There are no more generations.

Correct. And Nintendo's stuff will be iterative as well.

Wtf at no exclusive Scorpio games. That makes no sense.

It does seem like this is exactly what Neo is except coming later and with more power. Not a new gen.

Now I wonder why House came out said no Neo at E3. Back to the drawing board/cold feet?

Don't get this announcement at all. It will most likely just kill the XboxOne sales, and that console is already struggling. Makes no sense to me to announce this console this early.

They have to pre-empt Sony showing of the PS4 Neo to have any chance at having the Scorpio compete. If enthusiasts have already bought PS4Ks before Microsoft even announced the Scorpio, that hardware would be dead in the water.

This is so odd to me.

Most of the game they shown was for the PC as well, they announced a new slim version then announced another new system for Holiday 2017 I dont get it.

Yea, weird stuff.

Like buy this super powerful console next year to play our games.....or build a better PC today to play them.

I gues Sony can completely rewrite their presentation now to present Neo to make sure it has better specs. Maybe they will film some new videos to counter everything and add this in tonight as well.

Sony doesn't have to do anything. Nobody is gonna stop buying PS4s because a new Xbox is a year and a half away.

Scorpio will be like the Xbox 360. Ideally launch before the PS4.5. Can play current and next-gen games. MSFT is literally setting the tone for the next generation. MSFT already has the infrastructure. Sony will most likely have to play catch up.

Have you been paying attention to reports? No way this beats PS4k to market.

Wish the xbone launched with gaming in mind first. I like they're trying to get back to their roots and that BC is a top priority (wake up Sony) but I can't help but think a pc is still a better choice than Scorpio

Right guys? RIGHT!?!

That system is a monster though, but at what cost?

The most amazing thing is that the Neo scared Microsoft enough to get them to pre-announce Scorpio by at least a year. There is no way Microsoft wanted to announce Scorpio today.

I love how they actually announced and gave details about this Holiday 2017 console and Nintendo isn't saying SHIT about their March 2017 console this week.
I honestly think they scrapped their original NX plans when finding out about PS4K and Scorpio and are now boosting the specs to be competitive. I mean why else would they book up so much E3 floor space? Just to have Zelda demos? Doesn't make any sense.

Sony hinting that PS4K won't be shown at E3 is the same thing. I fully expect it to be delayed and beat Scorpio's specs at launch.

Scorpio sounds more interesting now than before anyhow. Late 2016 or early 2017 would've been too early for me. XB1 launched just 1.5 years ago in Sweden. But so many games coming to PC, and Xbox Live Gold still needs a subscription on Xbox. Makes it kind of hard to justify a purchase when you're a PC gamer.

I'm beginning to wonder who is the audience for the One S. Somebody who wants an XB1, but doesn't yet, and can't wait a year for this Scorpio? Weird to announce both at the same show.

Oh okay good. I'm okay with this. They are pretty much telling people they are done with Xbox One. They've moved on.

They are done making the original big boxy model to the new cheaper made slim. Is it confirmed the Slim has no HDMI pass through?

So all this talk of 4k... will this or the Neo support raising framerate or effects while turning down to 1080p? I don't have a 4k TV.

The devs I just recently spoke to in the vidcasts did say that there is additional flexibility that wasn't there in the past with some companies. Like TAA for Homefront, locking or unlocking FPS in even online MMO's like DCU. So its happening but slowly and thats on the same hardware. .

Uh, what are you talking about? Let's wait until tomorrow before concern-trolling over that game.

In terms of the NX, PS4 Neo and Scorpio aren't really a threat to Nintendo. Nintendo is its own worst enemy. If the NX fails, it'll because of poor decisions on their part.
Cool it off with the concern trolling. Some of you warriors are annoying as hell.

I dont get Microsoft. Why would I buy an Xbox S now? I'm going to assume sales will slow down considerably.

With all your exclusives on Windows 10 now, a decent amount of people will move to PC.

I don't get the business strategy.

And they'll have to use W10 like you said. MS wins either way.

Some of you really think Sony is panicking. They aren't.
Yeah it's gonna be interesting to see how this thing sells.

Could be like 32x/mega cd where a lot of people dont bother. Hell people thought wii u was an add on and it kinda flopped.

Sonys in a better position just because the ps brand name has far more weight at this point.

Personally I'm disappointed. This gen has been awful imo and seemed to take ages to get going, and been full of remasters. Now we're already getting talk of upgrades. What now, another set of remasters but 4k this time?

I got a console for a few exclusives but I think I'm going to end up as a PC gamer doing forward.

To me, announcing two consoles in the same conference is an absolute disaster. Specially when you can play everything on PC now. It's pretty much a useless device.

All I remember is people viciously underestimating the price of the Rift even after guidelines had been stated. Here they say nothing about price but specifically mention "the most powerful console ever made"

I'm hedging my bets right now. $849 and not a cent lower.

Before whatever subsidy programs might come into play.

The AMD 480 is 5.5 Tflops, costs $200, and is available in a couple weeks. Now factor in reduced costs from manufacturing at scale + next year release, there's zero reason to think the console will be more than $499 tops.

Some people and their wishful thinking that Sony will react to that... changing specs etc takes months etc to test out...

Pretty much...who's to say that Scorpio specs also won't be tweaked as well?

As far as the conference is concerned...I dunno how I feel about all the xbox hardware. Oh well, wish MS and Sony luck with what they are doing with their console upgrades.

These are all good things.

Are we ready to admit Xbox One was a disappointment?

fuck that .. it had a rough start but BC , first stint of mods on console

play and resume .. It was not a disappointment. PS4 was a powerhouse of a system seller that played off the bad MS PR. VR just introduced new issues for these consoles and MS had to adapt and hopefully Sony will too.

Looking at this wrong mate. You buy an S if you want a current gen console. You get a Scorpio if you want your investment to carry over to next gen.

Are we sure about that? Or are they going to announce Xbox Sagittarius in another 3 years that's even MORE powerful and has limited BC and its own set of exclusives?
