Definitely seems like Microsoft is treating this as a brand new generation (they are very careful to say Project Scorpio rather than Xbox One Scorpio or anything like that)

Sony's treating Neo as being for power users.

Curious which goes over better for their fanbases.

Phil Spencer discusses the new Xbox

He doubled down and said "native 4k frame buffer" I'm not technical enough to know what that means.

"native 4k frame buffer" means uuuum well i dont know if that exisits really. framebuffer to make it extremely simple, is where bitmapped images are stored to be sent to your display AKA VRAM...not sure why he tagged on "native 4k," the objects within are able to be native to your output. other than that it makes no sense at all other than for marketing. Maybe he meant maximum support support GPU res supported natively without upscaling?

Yup. Been saying this for a while.

If you can't release PS4 Neo games that can't run on a PS4, then the Scorpio isn't getting exclusives (by that, I mean games that can't play on an XB1) outside of VR games imo.

Riiiiight! So no studio wants to make a game accessible to 30 million XB1 users. Games will be scalable. Shannon Loftis just said that on Youtube. Low end PC settings(XB1) - High End PC Specs - (Scorpio) Though it is up to the Developer

I think she was very carefully parsing her words. She said all games being made right now will be forward and backwards compatible. Then when pressed on whether there will be any games that will be Scorpio only, she then backpedaled and said it was up to the game development community. Based on that I'd bet on forward/backwards compatible titles at launch, but Scorpio only titles soon after (not including VR).

No esp on my side sorry. I have lived through far too many E3's for that.
I'd rather 1080 with 60fps and with rich "graphics" than 4K tbh.

Can't see devs not having a choice.

The question is, who would want to do that?

No big AAA pub would want to restrict their consumer base like that.

Outside of MS funding I can't see any of the big ones going for a Scorpio exclusive. And if MS funds it, a lot of their user base still stuck with the Xbone will get mad.

It's a lose lose situation for everybody. I doubt there will be exclusive Scorpio games for a long time.

Of course there won't be. That answer was intentionally vague.

I have a feeling that you've misread my post, just a little.

I'm expecting a lot of big games next year released around the launch of the Scorpio will offer VR modes.

MS not having to worry about getting VR working on X1 will save them a lot of headaches.

I'd also say that VR will probably be a bit more affordable to the average consumer by that point as well.

Exactly. Pretty much hardware iteration style. Though I did just recently try to run a title on my older tablet which was hilarious.
Phil Spencer just said in the video that devs can choose to go for native 4k or use the 6tflops in other ways.

Ya its gonna be cool to see these new systems working

Yeaaah, I don't see a lot of publisher/developers totally jump on the scorpio ship leaving behind the 80+ millions of PS4/X1s users.

Don't think it matters too much, we would have never moved on from last gen if numbers mattered. If a publisher thinks they can sell something new successfully on a smaller user base but enough for success, they'll do it. 6TF vs 1.2TF, let them stretch their legs. I think there will be plenty of games for the next few years but they will try bigger and better things eventually and don't count out old consoles, devs can do great things on weaker hardware.

I really don't understand what is going on between Microsoft announcing 18 months out and indicating Scorpio could have exclusive games plus Sony rushing devs to make games compatible.

Are they both losing the plot? Is there a third party in the shadows that has spooked them?
They're both looking at Apple and saying "we want a slice of that".

I'm hoping it'll be my VR jumping in point, and it'll be great if they support multiple VR options as is rumoured.

Yeah, even if Sony does Neo only VR titles, their headset (while good) just can't compare to the Rift.

And since the PSVR is inhouse developed. Sony could already have a better version in development or at least out for testing.

So now people are now seriously arguing that devs WONT want to make Scorpio exclusive games...fucking lol.

Nope, PS4 and X1(s) are not and won't be 2013's PS360, and even then we saw a lot of cross-gen games. You know, publishers usually don't like losing opportunity to make money.

I have a dumb question: Do ALL PC games have graphic settings/options? If this is true, than why don't devs make the game at the highest settings, than just change the settings before it's packaged for the Xbox One S. Am I explaining myself correctly? Am I oversimplifying? I don't see why this can't be done.

I suspect the 4k is restricted to system menu screens, HUDs, and video content. You're not going to get acceptable FPS at 4k with these specs, at least not on anything with current graphic levels of detail.

They said 4k gaming multiple times in the briefing. And it can easily handle 4K res at 30 fps and higher with current graphical fidelity. PC GPUs that are weaker can do it and this will be in a closed box and can be coded to the metal.

No. Did the OG Xbox people get "fucked"?

Even if you weight the consoles hw-performance with its sales the og xbox is in a uncomfortable position if it turns out there's no "no one get left behind policy" like Sony has it in it's designer docs. The old xbox might get really bad ports in the future.

Not at first. Why alienate Xbox one core userbase

It will be like destiny. All platforms will be supported until the Scorpio base expands enough to leave the old Xbone behind

Not at first is ok by me but in a year I would want something that is only possible on the Scorpio such as a more vast open world or svogi . And not just a 4K or 60fps paint job over current gen titles

Honestly, I can't see why they would want to.

Were doing a big 6 dev videocast for the channel and the devs saw my questions on google docs.

The response to this question
"Uhg. no.
Nope
Why?
HERE WE GO!

LOL Probably going to be a somewhat typical burnout phase for older tech and maybe a couple MS upgrade programs once they see the bite.

Rubbish. New more powerful hardware, BC included, no stipulation to support both platforms with new releases. It's a new generation. PR saying it isn't doesn't make it so.

Nice wishful thinking. They are just launching a X1 sku with an aggressive price, believing that it will be soon abandoned is pretty much delusional.

You don't build a console 3x+ more powerful just to play Xbox One game in 4k. That would be a bit dumb.
I thought that was the general consensus because of "avoiding alienation every game will be playable on Xbox one up to Scorpio " this is great news for me if there are going to be exclusives harnessing the full power of a 6tf dx12 box
